Dosha is an Ayurvedic word meaning "bodily humor." Ayurveda is a system of medicine that developed in India an estimated 5,000 years ago. Doshas are categorized into three main groups of mind/body humors: vata, pitta and kapha.
Know Your Dosha
The Hindu believe that your dosha can be tamed and regulated to create a more harmonious life, principally through diet, a balanced lifestyle and exercise. Your dosha is unique to you.
Vata
Vata is the humor governed by wind or air. Vata people generally have thin frames and tire easily due to quick excitability. This dosha controls movement and the nervous system.
Pitta
Pitta people are usually of medium build and may have red hair or short tempers, as this dosha is governed by fire. Pitta can lose its balance when exposed to too much sunlight or heat.
Kapha
Kapha people tend toward stockiness and larger frames. Physically strong and resiliant, kaphas have good digestion, tend to be slow eaters and talk slowly.
Dosha Combinations
Double doshas are people who have their doshas in combination, such as vata-pitta or pitta-kapha. This means that you have equal qualities of both doshas.
CMV, or cytomegalovirus, can occur in anyone. It is passed through blood, saliva and sexual contact, and it often presents like the more common mononucleosis. There is very little treatment for CMV, as doctors do not usually prescribe a medication. Patients rest for 4 to 6 weeks, unless they have a weakened immune system or a complication from CMV.
Diagnosis
CMV can result in swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, stiff neck, hives, fever and other uncomfortable symptoms. A doctor will diagnose CMV after checking for a swollen spleen and liver and running a blood test to check platelet and white blood cell levels. The symptoms are similar to mononucleosis and are often mistaken for such. If symptoms indicate you may have CMV, you should visit a doctor.
Treatment
There is no medication for CMV. It takes most people 4 to 6 weeks to fully recover from the virus, and the best way to do so is to rest. Painkillers and gargling salt water are recommended, but only as a way of soothing symptoms, not as a cure for the virus. Doctors typically do not prescribe people with CMV an antiviral medication.
Exceptions
There are some exceptions to usual treatment of CMV. If the patient has a weakened or compromised immune system, a doctor will likely prescribe some kind of antiviral. This exception is made because of the damage CMV could do on a body whose platelet and white blood cell counts are already low. People in the position typically have a liver disease, HIV/AIDS or some form of blood cancer.
Possible Complications
While CMV typically goes away after 4 to 6 weeks of rest, there are instances where it develops into a more serious condition. The most common complication caused by CMV is a throat infection. Rarer complications include colitis, pneumonia, Guillian-Barre syndrome and a ruptured spleen. If CMV was to cause one of these complications, the treatment possibilities would increase greatly.
New Vaccine
Women with no symptoms sometimes pass on CMV to their babies, but currently a vaccine is being tested on pregnant women to prevent this from happening. In the test group, the vaccine was 50 percent effective, leaving some women and some babies with adverse side effects. Scientists are continuing to work on the vaccine, hoping to improve its effectiveness to 100 percent and to curb the number of children and babies with CMV.

People who have a failing kidney have to undergo kidney dialysis. Dialysis is used to clean the blood and remove excess chemicals. But it cannot help to regulate blood pressure or produce red blood cells. Patients have to take special care to ease long-term effects of dialysis.
Types
There are two types of kidney dialysis: peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis. Peritoneal dialysis itself consist of three subcategories. There are some side effects that are common in both types of dialysis, but they also have individual side effects.
Effects
There is a chance of infection in both types of dialysis, but in peritoneal dialysis the changes are higher. Other side effects include low blood pressure, hernias, dry skin and weight gain.
Significance
The long-term effects of liver dialysis include nerve damage, iron deficiency, heart disease and dementia. Dialysis can also have psychological effects such as anxiety and depression, which can lead to a diminished sex drive.
Causes
In North America, the leading cause of kidney failure is diabetes. In 25 percent of patients, kidney failure is caused by high blood pressure followed by inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidney.
Alternatives
The only alternative to dialysis is a kidney transplant. There is a long waiting list for kidney transplant candidates. Most adults have to wait more than two years before they find the right kidney.

Iliotibial band problems are most common in runners and other athletes. In most cases, the iliotibial band, or IT band, is tight. The IT band can start to rub on one of the protruding bones on the side of the knee where it connects. This can cause pain along the side of the leg from the hip area to the knee from the iliotibial band becoming inflamed and tender. You can alleviate this problem by learning massage the iliotibial band on the legs.
Instructions
1. Have the client lay down on a flat surface or massage table.
2. Apply lubricant or massage oil along the side of the leg from the hip down to the bottom of the side of the knee.
3. Massage along the side of the leg gently with the palm of the hand to prepare the muscles and ligaments in the area for deep tissue massage. Use gentle strokes moving up towards the hip.
4. Use the heel of the hand to give a deep tissue massage to the iliotibial band. Move towards the hip from the base of the side of the knee. Place the other hand on the inside of the knee to support the leg.
5. Stroke in a slow, firm, upward motion, securing your elbow on your hip for support and to give added pressure and a deep tissue massage to the area.
6. Press in the middle of the IT band, about mid-thigh along the side of the leg, with the thumbs. Combine this technique with the above steps to help release the IT band.

A meter stick measures 1 meter, the primary unit of distance in the metric system. Markings subdivide the meter stick into 100 centimeters and 1,000 millimeters. The primary alternative to the meter stick is the yardstick, which measures 3 feet, the primary unit of distance in the United States Customary System of Measures. Although meter sticks and yardsticks measure almost the same length, the international usage and ease of conversion of the metric system gives the meter stick some clear advantages.
Metric Conversion
The metric system is divisible by units of ten, which makes it simple to convert measurements in meters into other metric units. (To convert from meters to centimeters, multiply by 100; to convert from meters to kilometers, multiply by .001; etc.) United States Customary System measurements are irregular--12 inches make a foot, 3 feet make a yard and 1,760 yards make a mile--which means that conversion within this system of measurement requires more complex calculations.
International Acceptance
The metric system is the accepted form of measurement in all countries other than the United States, which uses the United States Customary System of Measures. All research science is conducted using the metric system. Meter stick measurements are instantly understood by people around the world, whereas yardstick measurements take more calculation and explanation. The meter stick is therefore the best choice for international projects.
Conversion to American System
One meter is 8.6 cm (3.37 inches) longer than a yardstick. Most American-made meter sticks measure centimeters on one side and inches on the other. Conversion from inches to centimeters is therefore a simple matter of comparing the numbers on one side of the stick with the numbers on the other. Yardsticks do not measure a full meter, making conversion more difficult.

Blood parasite is a general term referring to any number of parasites that live the majority of their life in a host's vascular system. There are many different types of blood-borne parasites. These parasites cause different diseases and there are a variety of symptoms and causes.
Description and Types
Blood parasite are any parasites that live the majority of their life in a host's vascular system. There are many different types of blood borne parasites. One blood parasite, trypanosome, causes chagas and African sleeping sickness. There are a variety of other diseases caused by blood parasites. One well known disease caused by blood parasites is malaria. Another disease, babesiosis is caused by blood parasites from the genus babesia. There are a variety of other blood parasites, such as filariasis, brugia, and mansonella.
Symptoms
There are a wide range of symptoms that could mean the presence of blood parasites. Some early symptoms for the parasitic chagas disease include fever, general discomfort and swelling at bite site. Later symptoms are constipation, abdominal pain, digestive issues and difficulty swallowing. Malaria symptoms may include fever, shaking chills, general discomfort, diarrhea, headache, nausea and vomiting. The diseases that result from blood parasites will cause illness that appears to just be the flu. If you have these symptoms and have been in an area affected by a blood parasite disease within the past 12 months, you should see a doctor immediately.
Causes
The blood parasite trypanosome, is contracted by transmission between humans. The transmission is facilitated only by a blood-sucking fly in Africa, called the tsetse fly. It is not possible for this blood parasite to be transmitted without the help of this fly. Therefore, killing this fly aids in the prevention of diseases caused by this parasite. Another trypanosome parasite that causes chagas disease is spread by reduvid bugs. The parasites that cause malaria are contracted by transmission of blood from one human to another through mosquitoes.
Diagnosis
There are different blood tests your doctor may use to diagnose a blood parasitic disease. One is a serology test. This test looks for antibodies that your body may have been created in response to a parasite. This is used to test generally for parasites, not just blood parasites. Another test used specifically in diagnosis of blood parasites is a blood smear. In this test, a drop of blood is observed under a microscope in order to determine the presence of parasites.
Treatment
There are medications for diseases caused by blood parasites. However, there is a constant struggle to provide viable treatments, because many blood parasites can evolve and become drug-resistant. Therefore, there is a constant search for new drugs to combat blood parasites. The majority of the drugs that experts are focusing on are combination drugs. The problem with this solution is that these types of medications are more expensive. Some of the common medications used to fight malaria include chloroquine, quinine sulfate, hydroxychloroquine, mefloquine and doxycycline. The drugs used for treating chagas disease parasites are benznidazole and nifurtimox.
Prevention
If you are going to travel to a country in which malaria is widespread, you should visit a physician to discuss precautionary treatments. You should do this months beforehand, because you generally need to start taking antimalarial drugs two weeks before leaving. You would take them before the trip, during your entire trip and up to four weeks after your return. However, it is important to consider the sometimes adverse effects that malaria medications can cause before deciding on this action.
There are some other preventative measures that you can take to decrease the danger of blood parasites. You should wear clothes that protect your body from the bugs that transmit blood parasites. Also, wear bug repellent. If you are going somewhere with a high concentration of mosquitoes, you should use netting if there are no screens. Remember, if you are going any place where you may be at risk of getting blood parasitic diseases, you should take necessary actions toward prevention, as recommended by your doctor.
For those of all ages with or without diabetes it is essential to get the right nutrients to sustain a healthy lifestyle. But for those with juvenile diabetes it is especially important to eat a healthy balanced diet that will keep their blood sugar in check and their energy high.
Eating Healthy
Children with diabetes must balance their carbohydrate intake with their insulin. Carbohydrates that children eat, such as sugars, breads and pasta, will raise their blood sugar. Fatty and other high-calorie foods will also impact their blood sugar by affecting how quickly their body absorbs the nutrients eaten; therefore, it is especially important to limit foods high in fat or calories. It is recommended that any child, with or without diabetes, eat three main meals and two to three snacks per day. It is not as important that your child avoid sweets and other stereotypical "off-limit" foods, but that they get to know and understand how eating certain foods affects their body and insulin levels.
Keeping Active
In addition to a healthy diet, children with diabetes should focus on being active every day. This is important in order to maintain and keep blood sugar levels under control. If your child takes insulin, she may need to reduce her insulin dose when regularly taking part in physical activity because it lowers blood sugar level. Make sure to give your child extra carbohydrates before exercising or playing sports to reduce the risk of lowering her blood sugar level too drastically.

Lead poisoning is a condition that results from high levels of lead in the bloodstream, which can lead to gastrointestinal and nervous system problems. Most commonly found in children who have access to lead-based house paint and toys, high levels of lead are also found in water, some pottery and home made ceramic dishes.Infants and young children are especially at risk for contracting lead poisoning and parents and caregivers must be able to identify symptoms of lead poisoning in order to receive prompt treatment that may reduce complications such as nerve, liver or kidney damage as well as delayed growth and learning disorders.Breathing in lead dust, fumes or ingesting lead causes disruption in the body's functioning, affects red blood cells (which carry oxygen to the body) and nerve cells in the brain.
Instructions
1. Watch your children carefully for signs of sudden sleeping problems, fatigue or lethargy. Be especially vigilant if you live in an older house or apartment that may contain lead-based paint.
2. Pay attention to any sudden changes in personality or behavior, as well as increased irritability. In some small children, high levels of lead in the bloodstream may cause episodes of increased activity.
3. Watch your child for signs or symptoms that he or she may be suffering from a suddenly poor appetite or stomach ache, which may or may not be accompanied by constipation.
4. Pay attention if your child complains of headaches or appears to be having difficulty concentrating.
5. Be aware of more severe signs of lead poisoning, such as vomiting, weight loss, moderate to severe stomach cramps and pain, as well as muscular weakness and seizures.

Many foods can be linked to triggering headaches and migraines. Foods associated with migraines contain a natural substance or food additives--sometimes a combination of both--that contribute to the onset of migraines. Knowing which foods contain ingredients that are migraine triggers can be the first step to reducing the occurrence of migraines.
Natural Migraine Contributing Substance
Tyramine is a natural substance found in protein-based foods. Tyramine forms from the breakdown of protein, and can trigger severe hypertension resulting in migraines.
Foods Containing Tyramine
The following foods contain high levels of tyramine and should be avoided by migraine sufferers:
Avocados
Bananas
Beef liver
Blue cheese
Bologna
Canned soup
Camembert cheese
Cheddar cheese
Chicken liver
Dates
Dried figs
Fava beans
Garbanzo beans
Kiwi
Lima beans
Nuts
Olives
Onions
Papaya
Peanut butter
Pepperoni
Pineapple
Pinto beans
Raisins
Raspberries
Red plums
Roquefort cheese
Salami
Sauerkraut
Soy sauce
Spinach
Stilton cheese
Summer sausage
Swiss cheese
Teriyaki
Tofu
Tomatoes
Yeast
Yeast extracts
Food Additives Proven to Contribute to Migraines
Nitrates, nitrites, monosodium glutamate (MSG), salt, aspartame, meat tenderizer and soy sauce are food preservatives that have the ability to dilate blood vessels and cause migraines. Most processed foods contain additives; while some contain minuscule amounts, others contain as many additives as the original product.
Foods Containing Food Additives
The following foods typically are abundant in food additives and should be avoided by people who suffer from frequent migraines:
Bacon
Cured meat
Deli meat
Hot dogs
Ham
Luncheon meat
Oriental foods
Pepperoni
Pickles
Processed meat
Red wine
Sausage
Whiskey
Dairy Products Can Trigger Migraines
The protein found in milk is a known allergenic for many people. This protein--casein--creates histamines, which in turn are responsible for the production of mucus. Excessive mucus puts pressure on brain membranes, which can trigger migraines.
Dairy Products to Avoid
Dairy products may contribute to migraines for many people. To see if dairy products trigger migraines, avoid the following:
Cheese (all types)
Ice cream
Milk
Sour cream
Yogurt
Considerations
Every person who experiences migraines may have different triggers; therefore, avoiding all foods listed may not be entirely necessary. For this reason, it is recommended to determine triggers through an elimination process. Eliminate all foods listed for four to six weeks, then add one food each week. Any unpleasant side effects noticed upon reintroducing a food would indicate a food to avoid.

Many people are drawn to certain crystals and stones. If wearing your favorite jade bracelet or diamond ring always makes you feel good, then that may be its healing benefit for you.
Amethyst is used to instill calm, purify the blood, and ease insomnia.
Identification
According to the book, "The Healing Power of Gemstones" by Harish Johari, "Healing stones are crystals of clear and purified minerals that are also found in the human body."
Types
Healing stones come in a variety of types like jade, amethyst and tiger's eye. People who use them for healing believe that certain stones work with the body's chemical makeup. Stones can be worn or placed on the skin, or even processed and taken internally.
Benefits
Each healing stone has specific healing benefits associated with it. Rose quartz, increases circulation and is calming. Jade strengthens the immune system.
Effects
The healing properties of a crystal is based on its electromagnetic properties and how they effect the human body. Science has used crystals for watches and computers for example, but not for healing the human body.
Expert Insight
In 2008, professors Geoffrey Wainwright and Timothy Darvill focused on rare bluestones at Stonehenge called spotted dolomite, prized for its healing properties. Skeletons in the area had signs of disease, leading to the belief that some people went to Stonehenge seeking healing.

Cholesterol is a viscous lipid compound which is necessary for the body to live that can pose health risks when its concentration is too high. High cholesterol levels in the body are strongly associated with coronary heart disease as cholesterol buildup can block arteries, which can lead to heart attacks. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women in the United States; since cholesterol levels tend to rise over time, shifting one's lifestyle to reduce cholesterol is an important part of being healthy well into old age.
Instructions
1. Eat foods that lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol. Bad cholesterol is known as low-density lipoprotein, or LDL, which is the culprit for fatty buildups in the arteries, while high-density lipoprotein, or HDL, is beneficial in that it assists with transport of cholesterol to the liver where it can be eliminated. Foods that are high in soluble fiber content like oatmeal and bran tend to reduce LDL. Other foods that have been shown to help cholesterol are nuts, fish, olive oil, legumes, fruits and vegetables.
2. Avoid foods that are high in cholesterol and saturated fat. Fatty foods like butter, red meats and dairy tend to increase cholesterol. Egg yolks are especially high in cholesterol.
3. Increase physical activity. Physical activity has several benefits on one's cholesterol. For one, it tends to reduce overall fat buildup in the body, which decreases the chance of blockages in the arteries. It also increases the efficiency of the heart, making it stronger and less likely to suffer a serious failure. Physical activity has also been linked with higher levels of good cholesterol, which in turn leads to lower levels of LDL.
4. Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Smoking suppresses good cholesterol and is strongly associated with increased incidence of heart disease. Smokers who quit tend to see a sizable increase in good cholesterol and a corresponding decline in bad cholesterol.
5. Use medication to reduce bad cholesterol. For those with a genetic history of bad cholesterol, special medications such as Lipitor, Crestor and Zocor can be used to lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a state of constant fatigue for a period of 6 months or longer. Cognitive problems such as concentration and short-term memory accompany this disease. This disease is known to hinder tens of thousands of people. It develops in females more than males and mostly in young and middle aged adults. Although the cause of CFS is unknown, medical scientists believe viruses affecting the immune system may be the source.
Instructions
1. Watch for tiredness, even after a full night’s sleep. CFS patients often complain of fatigue and a lack of freshness after long rest periods.
2. Experiencing depression is often a complaint. People afflicted with this disease may find it difficult to perform everyday tasks. Frustration can lead into depression.
3. Pay attention to smaller symptoms such as headaches, sore throat, muscle soreness and mild fever.
4. Experiencing difficulty in saying a word or even finding a word during normal speech is a complaint. Speech difficulties may accompany other cognitive problems. Reading retention are also symptoms.
5. Seek advice from a health care provider when fatigue persists for no apparent reason. Although there is no known cure for CFS, medication can provide relief from symptoms that keep you from living a normal life.

Bursitis is medically defined as swelling and/or pain (inflammation) of a bursa, which is a fluid-filled sac that cushions joints in the body, such as found between the elbows and the knees. The most commonly affected joints are those found in the shoulders, elbows, knees, pelvis and hips.Such inflammation is caused by several factors, most commonly overuse. However, many cases of bursitis are also caused by injury, illnesses and even infections. The condition affects mostly adults. Risks increase with failure to warm up and cool down prior to exercise or outdoor activities and sports.Learning identify symptoms of burisits may help to prevent complications that include longer healing time or chronic bursitis caused by repeated injury or inflammation to particular joints. Most cases of bursitis may be alleiviated using the RICE treatment method: rest, ice, compression and elevation of the affected area.
Instructions
1. Pay attention to any signs of pain or swelling in joint areas following exercise. Such swelling may be felt after vigorous sporting or outdoor activities, as well as high-impact aerobics.
2. Note tenderness in the affected joint. Sometimes, those suffering from bursitis find that even the slightest pressure on the joint caused pain.
3. Watch for signs of limited range of motion in the affected joint. This may also be accompanied by pain that spreads to surrounding areas of the body. For example, if the elbow joint is affected, pain, swelling and tenderness may also spread to the shoulder joint.
4. Feel the skin over the affected joint. Is it warm to the touch? If your skin is warmer over a sore joint than other joints around your body, it is a sign that it is inflammed. Apply the RICE treatment to help alleviate pain and reduce swelling.
5. Take non-prescription pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofin for mild cases of pain and to help alleviate swelling.

Alopecia is the medical term for sudden hair loss. The hair loss that occurs with this condition occurs rapidly and in circular patches on the scalp. Some individuals also lose the hair on their eyebrows, eyelashes, beards, their private areas and even the underarms. Alopecia is common in both men and women, and while many might think it strikes only middle-aged or older people, it often appears before a young man or woman reaches his or her twenties. Medical researchers don't know what causes alopecia, but learning understand and identify symptoms of alopecia prompts may individuals to seek early treatment.
Instructions
1. Check your hair in a mirror. Is your hair thinner than it used to be? Does it come out in chunks when you brush or come it? One of the early symptoms of alopecia, or sudden hair loss, it to find large amounts or strands of hair in your brush or come every morning.
2. Look at the patterns of hair loss on the scalp. Can you see circular or round patches of scalp? In most cases, individuals experiencing hair loss caused by alopecia do so in round or circular patches.
3. Pay attention to any signs of intense itching on the scalp or on other areas of the body where hair generally grows. In some cases, individuals may believe they are suffering from insect bites or a rash. Others notice more severe itching if he or she is under a lot of stress.
4. Watch for tingling or pain in the area where hair loss is occuring. Many individuals complain of mild to moderate pain on the scalp. When alopecia is experienced by men, they may feel tender areas on the jaw or cheek that feel as if they are bruised.
5. Watch for signs of pitting in the fingernails, which is a common symptom that occurs in more severe cases of sudden hair loss in both men and women. While many individuals often mistake such signs for a vitamin or mineral deficiency, the pitting of the nails is not improved by diet.

In using essential oils for arthritis pain, it's important to choose those that can improve circulation and reduce inflammation, thereby reducing pain. Luckily, there are numerous essential oils that have those effects on arthritis sufferers.
Rosemary and Marjoram
Rosemary and marjoram essential oils can penetrate deeply into joints, potentially improving circulation and easing pain.
Ginger and Black Pepper
According to "Aromatherapy for Dummies," ginger essential oil has a special knack for reducing inflammation, and its heating action is good for relieving sore muscles around arthritic joints. Black pepper essential oil is also a heating oil that can help relieve pain.
Other Essential Oils
Other essential oils that may help relieve arthritis pain include peppermint, helichrysum and wintergreen.
Arthritis Bath
For a hot arthritis-relieving bath, "Aromatherapy for Dummies" recommends adding three drops each of rosemary and marjoram essential oils, and two drops of ginger essential oil to water.
Considerations
Because every person's arthritis is different, you may need to experiment with different oils to see what works best for you. Also, essential oil quality varies greatly among producers. You are more likely to get desired results using high-quality oil from a trusted producer.
Cautions
Skin-test an essential oil before using it to make sure you are not sensitive to it. Blend one drop essential oil with a few drops carrier oil (any quality vegetable or nut oil) and apply it to the inside of your upper arm. If redness, irritation or itching occurs, do not use the essential oil.
Families taking care of a disabled or terminally ill family member sometimes require personal time away from the person to relax, take care of errands or receive medical care outside of the home. Respite workersallows families to take a break to take care of their personal needs. According to United Cerebral Palsy, respite care allows families to relax, restore their energy and enjoy their favorite activities and hobbies.
Responsibilities
Respite workers assist with housekeeping, preparing meals, shopping, bathing, helping the patient go to the bathroom and get dressed. According to ElderCare.gov, they also provide companion services to reduce the patient's feelings of isolation and loneliness.
Types
Respite workers offer care in the home or in a facility. Workers may stay with the person at home, care for the person in an adult day care facility, in a residential program or in a respite camp.
Benefits
Respite workers give families the freedom to do other activities, take short vacations, reduce stress or fatigue, and reduce the isolation experienced when taking care of an ill or disabled family member around the clock.
Time Frame
Respite workers offer continuous care for several hours to several weeks.
Cost
According to HelpGuide.org, foundation grants, some nonprofit and disability organizations, state agencies and veterans' benefits cover the cost of paying for the services of a respite worker. Medicaid and insurance may cover some, but not all, of the expenses.

Exercising with cerebral palsy is not only good for the patient but in most cases it is absolutely essential for the well-being of the patient and for loosening the muscles which can be very constricted at times. The exercises must be adapted to the particular patient's needs but general movement is agreeable as well. Playing outdoors, swimming, aerobic exercise, weight resistance training, all are acceptable forms of exercise for people suffering from cerebral palsy.
Instructions
Exercise With Cerebral Palsy
1. Swimming is an excellent exercise for patients with cerebral palsy as the water has a certain amount of resistance to it. The patient can float and his or her weight is much more buoyant than it is without water, so the person's movements are less restricted. Cold water is beneficial for increasing muscle tone while warm water tends to relax muscles. Whatever is needed for the muscle tone of the individual is what should be selected.
2. Stretch tightened muscles by working on the problem area for several minutes each day. For example, if the problem is tight calf muscles, the patient should exercise the legs by standing on his or her toes and slowly bouncing up and down. Also, flexing the calves in a sitting position, with the toes flexed and touching the toes, is a great stretching exercise.
3. Assist the patient in performing weight resistance exercises, using only the amount of weight that the patient can safely handle. Weight wrist bands, ankle bands and small dumbbells are ideal for this purpose.
4. Work the arms and legs in a cycling motion, using stationary bikes or hand machines. This can provide many positive effects for improving breathing and muscle strengthening.
5. Stretching is a basic exercise for all cerebral palsy patients. Different kinds of exercises can promote stretching. Just standing as tall as the palsy will allow is strongly beneficial. Supports should be used where needed, in case the patient is not capable of standing alone.
6. Try different types of aerobic exercises, such as jogging, walking and climbing the stairs. These exercises work on improving circulation as well as muscle flexibility and strength. Many children enjoy dancing and it can be a great way to improve muscle tone and tightness as well as their breathing and circulation.
7. Using certain tools to help with stretching therapy is a good idea. Inflatable therapy balls and therapy bolsters are useful for stretching the tight muscles of the cerebral palsy patient. Stretch the hamstrings with standers and floor sitters. Standers are comparable to wheelchairs that keep the child strapped into a standing position and floor sitters are padded chairs with chest brace straps so the child can sit on the floor upright like other children.

5. Keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat and include the carbohydrate count. Also note your daily weight. This will keep you on track and help identify any problem foods that stall your weight loss.
6. If you plateau or begin to gain weight, look back over your food diary to find a food that may be the culprit. Everyone is different. For example, some people can eat all the tomatoes they want on a low-carb diet and still lose weight. Others may not be able to eat one tomato without gaining a pound.
7. Put some fiber in your diet. Fiber is important when you are on a low-carb diet. Not only does it help keep your digestive system clear, it actually lowers the carb count in foods. For example, if a piece of bread has 15 carbs and 5 grams of fiber, subtract the fiber from the carbs for your "net carb count." Only count 10 carbs for that piece of bread.
8. Experiment. Success on a low-carb diet depends on finding what works for you. Try different low-carb products and meal combinations to discover what foods give you the most energy and help you lose weight the fastest.
9. Stick with it. Eating low-carb is really more of a lifestyle than a diet. You will lose weight relatively fast on a low-carb diet, but the only way to keep it off is to continue to live a low-carb lifestyle.
Stage 4 kidney cancer is treatable by removing the kidney and using chemotherapy or radiation to remove the remaining cancerous cells. Stage 4 kidney cancer has a 5 percent survival rate, but removing the kidney may help prolong a person's life.
Types
Several therapies are used to cure Stage 4 kidney cancer. Antigenics states that common treatments include chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy.
Features
Stage 4 kidney cancer treatment focuses on boosting the person's immune system for chemotherapy and preventing the cancer from spreading to all organs.
Effects
Treatment weakens the person physically and emotionally. Extreme weight loss, hair loss, and a weakened immune system are common symptoms.
Expert Insight
Many physicians focus on relieving the pain associated with kidney cancer instead of curing it. Kidney cancer's survival rate is very low.
Considerations
According to Cancer.org, where the cancer has spread, the person's physical and mental health, and the location of tumors are considered when treatment options are suggested.
Although it is rarely deadly, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed and treated in the United States. In 2000, more than one million Americans were diagnosed with skin cancer, and the rates of melanoma skin cancer diagnoses and deaths are increasing faster than those of any other skin cancer.
Significance
Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer in all people, regardless of age, gender, or race. Skin cancer is a group of three related diseases, two of which are nearly 100% curable.
Types
The most common type of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma. Over 90 percent of skin cancers are basal cell cancers. This type of cancer may look like existing moles on the skin, and it grows slowly and can take years to fully develop.
Squamous cell carcinomas may grow from existing moles on the skin as a result of damage from the sun. More men than women are diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma.
Melanoma is the deadliest of the three types of skin cancer and results from the growth of abnormal moles.
Time Frame
Skin cancers usually occur in adults over the age of 20, and require a time period of months to decades to fully develop into cancer. Some skin cancers involve existing moles and are slower to develop than cancers that are new growths on the skin.
Identification
Moles that change over time are a primary feature of skin cancer. As established by the American Cancer Society, the qualities of a mole that could become cancerous make the acronym "ABCD," which stands for Asymmetry, Border, Color and Diameter.
"Asymmetry" means that one half of the mole does not match the other half. "Border" means an irregular or non-circular shape of a mole. "Color" means the mole has multiple colors or is very dark compared to other moles on the body. "Diameter" can mean an increase in the size of the mole or a large existing mole.
Effects
Moles suspected of being skin cancer may require biopsy or removal by a doctor or dermatologist. Removal of a mole may result in scarring of the skin or more pronounced disfigurement if the mole is near the eyes, lips or nose. Basal cell carcinomas are usually treated by surgical removal. Squamous cell carcinomas may require chemotherapy or radiation, which has significant side effects on the body, such as weight loss, hair loss, and immune dysfunction. Melanoma is usually treated with surgery which may be done in combination with radiation or chemotherapy.
Prevention/Solution
The primary method of preventing skin cancer is to limit exposure to the sun as much as possible. If you do need to be outside, using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and not being outdoors between 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. can decrease the amount of exposure. Another way to prevent cancer is to regularly check your skin for new moles or changes in old ones. An annual screening by a dermatologist can check hard-to-see areas and will include a full body exam from the scalp to the buttocks to the spaces between the toes.
Theories/Speculation
Some environmental scientists believe that the increase in skin cancer rates is due to the depletion of the ozone layer, which allows more ultraviolet rays into the atmosphere and results in more damage to the skin. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, there may be an association between sunburns during childhood and developing melanoma in adulthood.
Tribulus terrestris, commonly known as goatheads or punctureweeds, are considered a noxious weed by some and a valuable medicinal herb by others. The plant is found throughout the United States and drops sharp, pronged seed heads. Although those tough seed pods are often harvested for their fertility -- and libido-boosting substances -- any part of the plant can be used for this purpose. Fortunately for those seeking the valuable weed, it is not in short supply.
Description
Goathead produces a taproot and grows branching stems that radiate from the crown in a wide, spreading fashion. Flowers are yellow and small, and quickly turn into fruit. Each fruit becomes a group of seed pods, which have two or three very sharp and rigid spines. Like many invasive weeds, goathead thrives in poor, dry soil and grows just about anywhere. When the seedpods get scattered, they can be a serious annoyance as they have enough strength to puncture a tire.
Seed Pods
The harvested part of goathead plants are the dried, ripe, green seed pods. They should be collected when they are fully developed, but not yet brown. Using gloves, remove individual seed pods or brush them off with a spatula or other tool. Rinse and dry them out for a few days. Pods are ready when they have a thoroughly dried surface. When harvesting the pods, avoid collecting from areas where animals may have roamed to prevent fecal contamination. Do not collect seed pods with mold or other disease or damage.
Harvesting The Plant
Any part of Tribulus terrestrius is useful for medicinal purposes and contains the valuable phytochemcials. At any stage of growth, you can use the the stems, leaves or any other part of the plant. Propagation is not necessary if you live in regions where the weed is rampant, such as the Southwest. In fact, harvesting the naturally-growing goatheads is a good way to help control the weed, which is considered invasive and noxious.
Medicinal Purposes
Tribulus terrestrius has become widely popular for its purported sexual and athletic-boosting benefits, although these advantages are not entirely proven. It was traditionally used in Chinese medicine as an aphrodiasiac that enhanced testosterone levels. It could improve fertility levels in males, and may boost athletic performance, according to Shawn Talbott and Kerry Hughes, author of "The Health Professional's Guide to Dietary Supplements." The substances responsible are steroidal saponins and protodioscin, which the plant can convert to steroidal hormones. Some athletes and body-builders use supplements containing tribulus terrestrius in hopes of gaining from its alleged testosterone-boosting effects.

Face sprays hydrate and moisturize the facial skin.
Face sprays work well to keep your skin hydrated and awaken your senses throughout the day. While facial sprays can be purchased in stores, it is easy to make a natural face spry. Store-bought facial sprays can contain harmful chemicals and take a large chunk from your wallet. Making facial sprays at home requires only a few simple ingredients. In just 10 minutes, you can make a simple, cost-effective, refreshing face spray at home.
Instructions
1. Pour 1 cup of mineral water into a small bowl.
2. Add 4 drops rose essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil, 2 drops chamomile essential oil, and 1 drop sweet orange essential oil to the water in the bowl.
3. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a spoon.
4. Use a funnel to fill a 2-ounce spray bottle with the mixture, and store the unused portion covered in the refrigerator.
5. Shake the bottle, close your eyes, and mist your face with two or three spritzes of the facial spray.
6. Use the spray as an uplifting, rehydrating burst as needed throughout the day; always shake the bottle before use.
Many people, teenagers especially, purchase mood rings for fun. They understand that the rings are supposed to change colors as their moods shift. What they don't understand is how this happens. The mood ring is actually made up of tiny liquid crystals that turn different colors based on temperature. If the wearer gets excited and her body temperature begins to rise, the ring will change color.
Instructions
1. Take your mood ring and rub an ice cube over it. Watch as the ring begins to turn a dark black color. This is because you have significantly changed the temperature and caused the crystals to react. A black reading is supposed to mean that you are stressed out, angry or getting sick.
2. Place your mood ring in a glass of water that has reached room temperature. The mood ring should turn a yellow or gray color. This happens because the room temperature water is still cooler than body temperature. Yellow is said to mean that you are bored or distracted while gray means that you are nervous or anxious about something.
3. Slide the mood ring on your finger. Chances are it will turn green, color the ring is set to show for the average body temperature. Green means that you are calm and at ease, without stress.
4. Warm up a cup of water and set the mood ring in it. It should become a bright blue color. Blue means that you are doing something stimulating or something that makes you excited.
5. Plug in your heating pad and when it gets hot place the mood ring on it. The ring will turn a dark blue which is the color for the highest temperature your ring will recognize. This color indicates romance or passion. Love is in the air if you see dark blue.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine is a loud, noisy device that works on the principles of magnetism and the body. It is designed to provide a more detailed picture than an X-ray of the body's internal workings. A patient first enters the machine by lying on his back or side. The machine focuses on one particular target body part, so a patient must be as still as possible when the machine is on.
The Scan
Once the patient is positioned properly on the table, the MRI's magnet is turned on and begins to move around the target area via a large tube. Radio waves are also activated and focus on the target area as well. The combination of the magnets and radio waves help form the MRI picture. These images are formed because water in the body contains protons that will align with the direction of the magnet. As the protons align, the radio wave "captures" their position and relays the picture back to the MRI image transmitting devices. The result is a 3-D replica of the targeted body part.
Uses
The MRI is very useful to the field of medicine because of its ability to provide detailed images. MRI scans are often very vivid pictures showing contrasts in areas like the skull, which can give insight to mental disorders and brain development. The MRI is also used on athletes to reveal exact areas of any torn tendons, ligaments or muscles.
In addition to diagnosing brain injuries or muscles, an MRI will also help diagnose major diseases. Tumors and masses can be seen more clearly with an MRI, helping oncologists determine what stage of cancer a patient may be in. It can also help diagnose multiple sclerosis and related issues.
Safety
Since the MRI involves heavy use of a magnet, extreme caution must be taken when in near the machine. All metal objects should be removed and placed well outside of the area, since an MRI's magnetic pull increases exponentially as you get closer to it. Credit cards and debit cards should also be out of the area, since the MRI machine can erase the stored data on them.

Strokes are medical emergencies that occur when blood clots obstruct blood flow to the brain, causing irreparable damage to the nervous system. Symptoms of strokes include face, arm and leg numbness and weakness, confusion, incomprehensible speech, vision problems, dizziness, walking difficulties, balance problems and acute headaches. People suffering a stroke need to be rushed to the hospital to dissolve blood clots in the brain. Post-stroke physical therapy after a stroke keeps movement problems caused by nerve damage to a minimum.
Importance of Physical Therapy
Physical therapy helps stroke survivors regain or maintain independence after suffering from a stroke. The American Heart Association maintains that although most people spontaneously recover from strokes within the first 30 days, rehabilitation helps improve brain function. Physical therapy after a stroke restores physical function and improves walking, range of motion, balance, and alleviates joint pains, falls, bedsores, foot drop and paralysis.
Improving Motor Control and Paralysis
Strokes damage the lower parts of the brain that affects motor skills. Physical therapy after a stroke restores movement in the face, arms and legs. Therapy improves a stroke victim's ability to stand, walk and remain balanced. Paralysis due to a stroke also affects a person's ability to swallow because of muscle damage, so physical therapy helps restore the muscles that control swallowing.
Restoring Sensory Functions
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke maintains that strokes reduce a patient's ability to feel sensations like touch, pain and temperature. Nerve damage can impair a person's ability to even recognize their own limbs. Physical therapy helps stroke victims restore sensory functions so that they can feel pain again. Inability to feel pain leads to injuries and, in some cases, burns. On the other end of the spectrum, many stroke victims experience severe joint pain when they move, but physical therapy can decrease movement-related pain too.
Incontinence and Bowel Relief
People experience temporary incontinence and difficulty controlling their bowels after a stroke due to motor and sensory deficits. This is because the brain can't tell the bladder muscles when it's time to go the restroom. Additionally, lack of motor control makes walking to the restroom difficult. This causes embarrassment for many stroke victims. Getting physical therapy after a stroke helps patients learn Kegel exercises that strengthen bladder muscles.
Role of a Physical Therapist
For effective therapy after a stroke, physical therapists who specialize in treating patients with motor and sensory disabilities should be consulted. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke outlines the rehabilitation process. Therapists assess patients' movements and sensory functions to create individualized treatment plans. These disability specialists help stroke survivors perform exercises that restore movements and teach strategies that help patients perform their daily activities with minimal pain and difficulty. Repeated movements help the brain relearn control muscles. A physical therapist will help patients increase their range of motion and play games that promote coordination. Stroke therapy can take place at rehabilitation facilities or at a patient's homes.

Anyone who has ever suffered from back pain will generally find it a relief to finally go to bed at night and take the weight off of their back. The only problem is back pain may be worse in the morning. Sleeping in the wrong position can aggravate back problems, and it can even cause back problems. A study was cited by the 'Telegraph UK' that sleeping in particular positions can actually make back problems better and prevent new bank problems from occurring.
Fetal Position
The fetal position involves lying on your side with your arms slightly out in front of you and crossed. The legs are bent and pulled up and into the body. This is a natural sleeping position and most people find that regardless of what position they fall asleep in they often wake up in this position. When getting into this position be sure the back is aligned and that your top shoulder, the one not against the mattress, is not leaning in toward the bed. This will keep your back aligned. People who have trouble keeping their backs straight often find that placing a pillow against the chest works well.
Starfish Position
People who are prone to sleeping on their backs will need a roomy enough bed to get into the proper position without disturbing their bed mates, or they'll need to sleep alone. The starfish position is the best position for back sleepers. It involves lying on the bed with the legs and arms extended a bit away from the body. It should be noted that while this is a comfortable position for sleeping on the back, it can produce or aggravate snoring.
Log Position
The log position enables the spine to lengthen and keeps pressure off of the spine. When done properly it can be very comfortable. It involves lying on either side with the legs straight down and the arms straight down. The arm that is not against the mattress should rest on the body or slightly in front of the body. The arm that is against the mattress should be down and in front of the body. This position works well for people with back problems; however it does require a supportive, firm mattress and supportive pillows.
What to Avoid
People who want to avoid back problems should not sleep on their stomachs. Not only can it cause neck stiffness, it can compress the nerves of the spine. People sleeping on their stomachs often wake with back aches because their spines have been put in an asymmetrical strain.

Cellulose powder is a white, odorless powder derived from the fibers of plants. Cellulose powder is insoluble in water and many other liquids; instead it tends to absorb water and other liquids and helps to flush impurities from the body. It is most often marketed as a powder, is reasonably priced and can be found at most health food stores.
Significance
Cellulose powder, due to the way it is processed, is free of contaminants both organic and inorganic. This makes it safe for ingestion in the human body. Since it absorbs water, it works as a way to cleanse the colon and makes bowel eliminations easier on the body. Because it is insoluble in water, it is considered to cause less gas buildup in the system than other common fiber supplements.
Function
Cellulose powder is used in both powder and tablet forms. As a dietary supplement, it is often marketed as an intestinal tract cleanser or a fiber additive to water for making the digestive tract function regularly. It is often the active ingredient of products advertised to increase the daily amount of fiber, such as Citrucel, which uses a form called methylcellulose. Cellulose is also used as an ingredient in other vitamin and mineral supplements as a binding agent.
Considerations
Cellulose powder has no nutritional value yet absorbs available water. Because of this, it is sometimes used as a diet aid for reducing water bloat as it absorbs water in the system. Like many diet and nutritional supplements, there are no FDA guidelines on what is a safe amount of cellulose power to ingest on a daily basis.
Warning
As with all over-the-counter supplements, the addition of cellulose powder to the diet in any form should be discussed with your primary health care provider before using. Due to the absorption properties of the powder, it may react adversely with other medications or health conditions. When using cellulose powder, read and follow the package directions for the best benefits of the powder.
Potential
Cellulose powder used in nasal sprays is being studied as a natural alternative to chemical preservatives. Since cellulose powder is resistant to bacterial growth, it is believed to serve as an organic blocker to allergens, viruses and other bacteria. Working with the natural moisture available in the nasal passages, the cellulose powder creates a gel similar to normal mucus, which traps the allergens, preventing them from entering the bronchial system.
Fibromyalgia is not curable, but it is treatable. Treatments aim to improve symptoms of fibromyalgia. Several treatments options area available. One or more of these treatments should be used to meet the individual needs of fibromyalgia sufferers.
Medications
Fibromyalgia sufferers can take prescription medications such as Savella, Cymbalta and Lyrica to treat pain symptoms. In some cases, pain may also be treated with antidepressants, narcotics or benzodiazepines. Also, lidocaine may be injected into tender points to relieve pain. Medications to aid with sleep may also be needed.
Exercise
Pain may also be treated with regular stretching and exercising. It is most beneficial if exercise is done daily.
Sleep
Fibromyalgia should have a regular sleep routine to help improve symptoms. A good sleep routine should include going to bed and getting up at the same time each day. Also, it is helpful to avoid caffeine, alcohol and sugar before bedtime.
Physical Therapy
Individuals with severe pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion may benefit from physical therapy.
Other Treatments
Fibromyalgia sufferers may find relief through massage, acupressure, acupuncture, water therapy, relaxation techniques, aromatherapy, chiropractic care and cognitive therapy.

Sitting for too long at work without interruption may lead to a host of health problems.
Sitting for a long time comes with several health risks, especially if the sitting is done for more than four hours at a time without interruption. Besides the stiffness and muscle fatigue that accompanies sitting, many serious health problems, such as increased risk of disease and injury, can develop if sitting is done for too long over many years.
Muscle Fatigue
Sitting for extended periods of time without alternating the body's position can affect the muscles in the torso, neck and shoulders. Because the muscles in these parts of the body must be held in a somewhat fixed position while sitting, the blood vessels are squeezed and blood flow is reduced to these places, causing fatigue. This muscle fatigue also can contribute to overall exhaustion and stiffness.
Lowered Blood Circulation
Besides increasing muscle fatigue, the lowered blood circulation that accompanies sitting also can lead to a host of other problems. Blood often pools in the lower legs, resulting in numbness and varicose veins.
Decreased Fitness and Risk of Fatality
Over time, those who must sit for many hours at a time are more likely to experience decreased fitness, a lower heart rate and a higher risk for injury and disease, especially those who also have little to no physical activity in their lives. A study conducted in 2009 by the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge found that out of 17,000 Canadians tracked for 12 years, those who sat the most had the highest risk of fatalities. People who sit for too long are more likely to be overweight and have a high risk of heart attack.
Increased Risk of Chronic Back and Neck Injuries
Sitting for a long time places a high amount of stress on the spine, specifically in the lower back and neck regions. Over time, sitting can result in compression of the spinal discs that leads to compromised spinal nutrition and lowered back health. Additionally, because muscles in the back and neck become tightened from pressure, sudden movements in these areas can lead to injury.
Increased Risk of Diabetes
Although sitting for too long is not a sure indicator of diabetes, it does make the sitter 26 percent more likely to develop metabolic syndrome, a condition that often leads to diabetes, according to a 2010 article published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a disorder of the offspring of women who drink alcohol during pregnancy. It leaves physical, functional, and developmental delays and dysfunctions with the individual who has the disorder. Worst of all, it can be avoided! The easiest way to avoid is to avoid alcohol during pregnancy. Here are some ways Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can be identified. (60)
Instructions
1. Know what Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a disorder found in the offspring of women who drink alcohol during pregnancy. The degree of effects on a child during pregnancy is unknown as to how much alcohol is consumed, when the alcohol is consumed, or for how long it is consumed. So the basic advice is to avoid alcohol all together during pregnancy. The main effect of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is damage to the central nervous system, especially affecting the child’s brain. There is no cure for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, but it can be treated through medications, behavioral interventions, and in other ways.
2. The first way to identify Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is Growth Deficiency. Growth deficiency refers to an individual’s weight or height (or both) being below average due to the fetus’ exposure to alcohol during the mother’s pregnancy. The growth deficiency of the offspring can be assessed at any point in his or her lifespan.
3. Another way to identify Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is through the presence of distinguished facial features, which is a good indicator of damage to the individual’s brain. Note that brain damage can still be present without the presence of these facial features. Facial features include a smooth philtrum (flattening of the groove between the nose and upper lip), the thinning of the upper lip or vermilion, or decreased width of the eyes (aka small palpebral fissures). Each of these facial features can have a greater extent of damage with increased exposure to alcohol during the pregnancy.
4. Another way to identify Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is through damage to the Central Nervous System. Damage to the Central Nervous System can be diagnosed in three different areas: structural, neurological, and functional. Structural damages show damage to the brain. Structural damage can include microcephaly, or small head size or other abnormalities of the brain structure. Microcephaly is determined by measuring the individual’s head circumference. Other structural abnormalities are detected through imaging, which can be performed by a doctor. If structural impairments don’t exist, the individual’s neurological impairments are checked. Neurological impairments can include epilepsy, seizures, impaired fine motor skills, hearing loss, clumsiness, poor eye-hand coordination, poor gait, or sensory integration dysfunction. If structural and neurological impairments are not observed in the individual, the functional impairments are assessed. Functional impairments are also known as developmental disabilities. There is evidence of behavioral or cognitive abnormalities that are inconsistent with developmental level, such as memory, learning disabilities, social perception, impulse control, academic achievement, communication, math skills, judgment, abstraction, attention, or other developmental skills. Your doctor will have tests he or she can perform to determine the extent of the damage to the Central Nervous System.
5. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can be prevented. How can it be prevented? A pregnant woman should never drink alcohol. The damages are irreparable. If you are pregnant, take care of your body and give your child the highest potential of living a strong, long, and healthy life.

Carpal tunnel syndrome affects the wrists of people who make repetitive hand movements on a daily basis. Working in a factory or doing excessive amounts of typing can result in carpal tunnel syndrome. Natural cures include resting, applying cold packs, positioning your wrists correctly and wearing a wrist brace.
Resting
The carpal tunnel in your wrist is composed of the carpal ligament and bone, and contains the median nerve and tendons. Making repetitive movements causes your tendons to rub against the same area of your carpal ligament, resulting in irritation and inflammation. As the inside of your carpal tunnel swells, it compresses the median nerve, resulting in the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Resting your wrists allows the swelling to go down, which stops the symptoms.
Applying Cold
Placing cold packs on your wrists helps numb the area, which reduces the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition, alternating the cold packs with mild heat helps reduce wrist swelling. Try filling one sink with ice water and another with warm water. Then place your wrists in one sink for five minutes, then the other sink for five minutes. Use this warm and cold treatment several times per day.
Correct Positioning
When typing, you should use correct wrist positioning in order to prevent wrist strain. Try to keep your wrists straight to avoid further irritation within the carpal tunnel. Resting your wrists on your desk when typing can result in compression of the carpal tunnel, so using cushioned wrist supports can help.
Wrist Braces
Wearing a wrist brace keeps you from flexing your wrist, which prevents irritation in the carpal tunnel. Using the brace while doing the activity that causes carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms helps you avoid the wrist movements that are causing problems. Wearing the braces at night also helps, because many people flex their wrists during sleep.
As early as 2000 BC the Chinese were using acupressure as a way to treat and relieve a wide variety of health conditions. Acupressure is the application of pressure to certain points on the body in order to achieve a desired result. It is often used to treat diseases and other health conditions as well as to promote relaxation. Within the last decade people have increasingly been using this alternative method to aid in weight loss.
Instructions
Lose Weight Using Acupressure
1. Apply pressure to the appetite control point located on the fleshy protrusion of the ear, which is not to be confused with the ear lobe. Place the tip of your index finger on your jaw next to your ear. Locate the most amount of movement of the jaw by opening and closing your mouth. This area should be right next to the fleshy protrusion of your ear. Place this part of your ear between your thumb and index finger, and apply pressure for approximately two minutes. Begin and end your acupressure session by stimulating this particular point.
2. Locate one of the acupressure points for your spleen, S6. Stimulating this point will have a strengthening effect on the digestive system.
Use your fingers to find the center of your ankle bone, and slide up the width of four fingers. The point is towards the back of the leg, just off of the bone. Apply pressure to this point with your thumb or your knuckle. Steadily increase the pressure until it is firm, hold for approximately one minute, and then gradually release the pressure.
3. Determine the location of a stomach point, St 36, that aids in nourishing your chi and blood. It also results in positive benefits for the digestive system.
Find this point four finger-widths beneath your kneecap, and one finger-width to the outside of your shinbone. Check to see if you are in the right spot by flexing your foot up and down. If you feel the muscle moving under your fingers, you are in the correct location. Maintain moderate or firm pressure for approximately one minute.
4. Find the location of Spleen 9, which is very near St 36. From St 36, slide your fingers across your shinbone until you reach the inside of your leg. Then slide your fingers up along the shinbone approximately one inch until you feel a depression. Once you are there, you will have found Spleen 9. Apply moderate to firm pressure for about one minute. This point is helpful in regulating your body's water metabolism.
5. Eliminate excess weight by locating Stomach 40, which is also a point to help your body clear itself of excess phlegm and moisture. This point is located in the middle of the outside lower leg, approximately two finger-widths behind your shinbone. Apply pressure to this point with your fingers for about a minute.
6. Clear excess heat and moisture from the body, and regulate your intestinal activity, by locating Large Intestine 11 or Li 11. Locate this point by extending your left arm in front of your chest as if you are holding a drinking cup in your hand. The pressure point can be found at the outside end of the crease on your arm at the joint of your elbow. Apply pressure to this point with your right thumb while holding your left hand close to your chest. Hold for approximately one minute and then switch arms.

Dental work is something everyone avoids and would rather not have to worry about but unfortunately our teeth do not last forever. Our teeth require cleaning and maintenance like an automobile. Knowing what dental repairs to get is important. This article will give you a few things to consider when deciding between a dental bridge vs a post.
Instructions
1. Call your dental insurance company and find out what is covered and not covered for a dental bridge and a post. Explain your situation and review your options. You will want to get the best care with the least out of the pocket expense. All dental repairs are not covered at the same rate. Some dental repairs are considered necessary while others are considered cosmetic. You will want to make sure all of your work is considered necessary repairs.
2. Review your options with your dentist. If necessary, get a second opinion. Weigh your options before doing any work. Consider the long-term impact of the decision. For example, a post covers the one tooth that needs the repair. This sounds simple enough but if none of the cost is covered by the dental insurance company then you will consider the other option. A bridge will impact at least three teeth. The one tooth that needs the repair and the two surrounding teeth will be affected. That is three teeth for a bridge vs one tooth for a post. What is the long-term success rate for both of these options?
3. Ask others who may have had similar work done. What choice did they make and why. The internet is a great tool to do research. Conduct your own research on the internet. Prepare yourself to make an informed decision.

Most cases of pinched nerves in the back are a result of a herniated disk, a condition where the cartilage between the vertebrae protrudes out into the spinal canal. The cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions of the spine are all vulnerable to this type of injury. And since so many nerves are located within the spine, a slip or rupture in any disk can pinch a nerve, triggering pain, numbness and weakness within the back, leg, shoulder, arm or neck. Regardless of the location, a number of treatment options can effectively nurse the area back to health.

When you first suffer a pinched nerve, apply a cold compress to the back. The cold lessens swelling of the herniation and often reduces the pain caused by the pinched nerve. Make sure to only apply for around 15 minutes at a time, as prolonged cold can further aggravate the injury.
Of all the treatment options for a pinched nerve, rest is by far the most recommended, even in more severe cases. By periodically resting the area, the herniation eventually diminishes in size and lessens the compression of the pinched nerve.
As you rest the back, it is also important to make adjustment to your movements. This doesn't mean you should stop physical activities entirely, as you'll want to maintain strength and flexibility. Just try to pay attention to how you carry, reach and bend so as not to exacerbate the herniation and further pinch the affected nerve. Over time, the disk increasingly dwindles in size, allowing for more and more comfort as you move throughout the day.
While you treat the herniation, apply some heat. Unlike cold, heat brings blood back to the area of injury, which could increase inflammation, so use heat as a later form of treatment--no sooner than 48 hours after the injury. Applying heat to the affected area can limber the back and lessen pain. And much like cold, only apply it in increments of 15 minutes, as this too can further aggravate the injury.
Medical Treatments
Even if you may think your pinched nerve isn't a serious condition, consult a medical professional. Physicians have a number of treatment options available and are able to recommend the best approach. Physical therapists can recommend a series of exercises to rehabilitate and strengthen the area.
Though over-the-counter medications, like ibuprofen, aspirin and acetaminophen, can alleviate pain, sometimes more aggressive methods are necessary. Muscle relaxants are a common type of medication used to treat the herniation and remove some of the compression placed on the pinched nerve. Narcotics and other prescription pain relievers are also used to treat more significant pain, though the chances of dependency are greater, so these medications are often restricted.
In much more severe cases, surgery may be needed to reduce the herniation and remove the compression placed on the pinched nerve. In this situation, the protruded portion of the disk is manually removed by the surgeon, thereby treating the pinched nerve.
