Breathing properly can increase your ability to relax, heal and concentrate. The parasympathetic nervous system, or the body's involuntary functioning, is affected by learning to breathe correctly. Breathing techniques that enhance the body's ability to heal itself are called Pranayama.
Instructions
Witness the Breath's Pattern
1. Awareness of inhalation and exhalation requires practice. Begin by thinking only of the breath, letting go of any other thoughts or concerns. Witness the inhale, the exhale, and any pauses in between. Notice whether breathing is easy or difficult, whether the breath is shallow or quick.
2. Take a deep breath and notice your body. How are you? What posture are you holding? Make yourself comfortable so that your inhale and exhale can become natural and even. Sitting on the edge of a chair or lying flat supports your back as you practice breathing consciously.
3. Place your hands on your abdomen. Feel your abdomen extend out with your inhale. Exhale and relax your shoulders. Adjust your scapulae by rolling them up and back, inward and down toward the hips, as your crown lifts. Notice how your next inhale expands the abdomen, chest, ribs and the throat (clavicle) areas. Notice all four sides of the torso expanding with your inhale. Exhale and let go of the effort to expand. Feel yourself releasing tension along the spine from the crown of your head to the tailbone.
4. Practice balancing the breath by counting the inhale 4 seconds, pause 2 seconds, exhale 4 seconds. Experiment with the number of seconds for each part of the breath. A good rule is equal time for inhale and exhale. Continue practicing belly breathing from the abdomen upward into the throat and exhaling throat, chest, then abdomen.
5. A Pranayama exercise that helps to maintain focus on the breath is Ujjayi. This breath is used to control the flow of air through the trachea. Relax all your muscles as you do Ujjayi breathing, especially your facial muscles. This is described as "Darth Vader breathing," or fogging a mirror. You tilt your chin slightly inward to close the glottis, such that the exhale creates a hissing noise. Repeat this breathing practice for at least 10 rounds of inhaling and exhaling.

Not only is a it a good idea for restaurants to employ rules to keep employees safe, but keeping a kitchen safe can also protect a restaurant owner from possible litigation. Restaurants must follow certain guidelines to keep the kitchen functioning properly. By simply keeping safety at the top of the list, all other restaurant functions will fall more easily into line.
Restaurant Safety Rules
Keep floors in the kitchen uncluttered to reduce tripping. Floors can be covered with slip-resistant coverings. A floor-cleaning schedule should be established and "Caution" and "Wet Floor" signs should be posted during cleaning times. It may be a good idea to have these signs visible at all times in the dishwashing area.
You can help reduce the amount of water that might leak onto the floor by placing mats in front of the ice machines and by ensuring that freezer and refrigerator doors seal properly.
Do not carry large loads that might obstruct your vision and be sure to communicate when moving through crowded areas in the kitchen. Saying simple things like "Behind you," "Hot" and "Corner" can help warn others and prevent accidents.
Attire and Equipment
The proper equipment and attire can reduce restaurant kitchen accidents. Cooks who wear long sleeves reduce the risk of being burnt. Shoes that are skid-resistant and closed-toe reduce the risk of falling and protect the feet against burns. Sharp knives reduce the possibility of being injured by a knife being used incorrectly because it is dull.
Knives should be stored with the blades covered, as in a knife block. Only employees who have been trained in using electric slicers should attempt to use them. Make sure the knife handles are tight. If the handle starts to loosen, either fix it or replace the knife.
Burns
Prevent burns by making potholders easily accessible to all kitchen staff. Check the temperature setting on the hot-water heater. Water that is too hot could scald employees when they use the water to wash dishes or their hands.
Post safety procedures and reminders throughout the kitchen. This will help the kitchen staff to work safely.
Scarlet fever is a condition that afflicts mostly children between the ages of two and ten years old. It's an extremely contagious rash caused by a strep infection that creates the scarlet fever toxin. The condition is spread through respiratory avenues or simple skin contact. Parents should be relieved however, to find that scarlet fever is relatively rare, and is not spread by all strep infections.Risks for contracting scarlet fever increase with crowded environments such as school classrooms. Learn identify scarlet fever signs and symptoms to prevent complications such as more serious infections and discomfort from rash.
Instructions
1. Assess symptoms as they occur. In most cases, scarlet fever displays a progression through roughly six days. The first signs to watch for are fever, or complaints of a sore throat. The throat will appear red. In some cases, parents may even feel enlarged lymph nodes in the neck at this time. These symptoms generally occur in one day.
2. Watch for a bright red rash that appears on the face. In most cases, this rash will not occur around the mouth, a distinct sign of this particular condition. This rash usually appears on the second day.
3. Check your child's tongue. At or around the third day, the tongue will also appear bright red, and is often called a "strawberry tongue." The rash will also spread to other body areas and especially bodily creases, creating an uncomfortable rash that affects the neck, chest and back, then the extremities.
4. Watch for signs that the rash appears to be drying out and shedding, or peeling. This sign may occur anywhere between three to six days, and will continue for as many as ten to fourteen days. Signs of redness and bumps will gradually decrease during this time frame as well.

Although it may be a rare occurrence, crocodiles have been known to attack and kill people. If you spend any time in crocodile-infested waters, you must be prepared to defend yourself against a crocodile attack. Follow the suggestions below for surviving a potentially deadly encounter with one of these aquatic beasts.
Instructions
1. Stay as calm as possible and try not to panic. It's important to keep a clear mind when facing a crisis situation.
2. Be prepared to escape. The crocodile may strike once then release, giving you a momentary opportunity for escape. Be ready to take advantage of that opportunity.
3. Respond to the attack with a counterattack of your own. Do not passively struggle to get away from your attacker, but rather, use force to beat off the croc.
4. Attack the crocodile's eyes, which are the most sensitive area on the animal. Use any available object to hit or poke at its eyes so that it will release you and skulk off.
5. Aim for the nose or ears if you can't get to the eyes. This may not be as effective as attacking the eyes, but it can still produce the desired result.
6. Blow a whistle if you have one on you. Crocodiles are sensitive to sound and will be repelled by the noise.
7. Roll in the same direction as the crocodile if it initiates its signature "death roll." Whatever part of your body is in the croc's mouth is almost certain to be torn off if you don't turn in the same direction as the croc when it starts rolling and thrashing.
8. Do whatever it takes to keep the crocodile on land and out of the water. Crocs feel much more at home in the water, and they usually drag their prey into the water for the kill.
A meal plan designed for kids is especially extremely important for hypoglycemics. Fatigue, dizziness, anxiety and rapid heartbeat are just a few of the symptoms that can be alleviated through a nutritious diet. Though its hard to plan ahead, there are many things you can do to ensure your child receives proper nutrients.
Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar drops to abnormally low levels. This can happen two to three hours after a person eats. A number of foods such as simple carbohydrates, refined sugar and processed food can trigger a hypoglycemic episode. Avoid feeding your child sweets, chips, crackers, baked goods and fried foods. In their place, plan meals with fresh, simple ingredients.
Breakfast and Snacks
Mornings are usually filled with the frenzied pace of getting the children ready for school. That is why making their breakfast in advance saves you the headache. The night before, create a delicious parfait by using low-fat yogurt, fruit and granola. Likewise, take low-sugar banana pudding and layer it with fresh bananas, graham cracker crumbs and peanut butter. They'll be asking you to make these fantastic meals for their snacks. It is also important that they have a healthy snack throughout the day to prevent blood sugar fluctuation. Keep them away from the vending machine with a trail mix, apple slices and carrot sticks.
Lunch
Its important for kids to not have a sugar crash at school. Sugary foods lurk everywhere, and their school's cafeteria may have a lot of processed food. Treat them with a sandwich packed with avocado, hummus, sprouts and cheese. Give them beneficial fiber with a whole-grain tortilla full of guacamole, salsa, cheese and bean dip. If you're worried about the avocado turning brown, spray on a healthy dose of lemon before packing.
Dinner
Though it's your end of the day, children are usually bouncing off the walls. You need quick recipes to get them in their seats. Kid-friendly ideas for hypoglycemics include whole wheat pasta with turkey meatballs and marinara, tacos with skinless chicken and shrimp over whole grain rice. Finish the meal with non-sugar yogurt mixed with fruit and whipped cream spread over a graham cracker crust. Hypoglycemia doesn't have to wear your child down. By setting a normal meal schedule with delicious food, he will feel great throughout the day.

For those in the world of dance or athletes whose sports rely heavily on stops and starts, foot sprains are all too common occurrences.
A sprain is defined as the wrenching and/or partial or complete tearing of a ligament (the strong segment of fibrous tissues that joins bone or cartilage to the joint).
Those who sprain a foot experience a throbbing pain upon injury and should not resume activity until after treatment and recovery.
Types
Foot sprains come in three varieties ranging from the simple to serious conditions. The first type of sprain is labeled grade I and is a mild tearing of ligament fibers. This is the form of sprain most easily treated and recovered from. In this instance, the sufferer is able to bear weight on the foot but with some discomfort. This is a fast healing condition which rarely requires medical attention.
The second type of sprain is moderate in intensity and is referred to as grade II. In this sprain there is an actual tearing of the ligament resulting in a degree of function loss. It is best to seek medical attention if the pain is more than mild as a grade II injury may have occurred.
The third and most severe type of sprain is grade III. Here there is a complete ligament rupture causing the person to have severe pain and preventing him from bearing any weight on the foot. Medical attention should be sought right away in this type of instance.
Identification
The identification of a foot sprained is primarily based upon its symptoms. Typically with a sprain, the foot will swell and become tender shortly following the injury. There will also be pain and if the sprain is severe, the injured party will be unable to put weight on the foot. There may be bruising as well.
A sprain to the foot generally occurs in one of two principal areas. The first is the midfoot including the arch of the foot while the second is located at the big toe's base which is called the first metatarsophalangeal joint (an injury to this area is often referred to as "turf toe").
Sprains often occur in one of three ways: inversion, supination or pronation. Inversion is when a "rolling" of the foot occurs and forcefully pulls the ligaments to the point of tearing.
A supination injury is one in which the foot is forcefully moved so that the sole of the foot is jammed upward.
Pronation is a rotation of the foot in which the sole moves laterally causing the foot to move far inward causing a sprain.
Significance
Foot sprains like most other sprains are rarely significant injuries. Most are mild injuries that generally heal completely within two weeks without the benefit of professional medical care. Occasionally the sprain is more severe and requires a physician's attention.
In many cases an X-ray will be performed and in some cases a CT (computed tomography) or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the foot may be recommended. Advanced scans are usually prescribed for patients who are serious athletes or dancers who are experiencing instability to the involved joint.
Prevention/Solution
Mild and moderate sprains are best treated using the RICE method which is an acronym for rest, ice, compression and elevation. The person should rest for a couple of days and treat pain with acetaminophen or aspirin. In addition, ibuprofen may be taken to help relieve inflammation as well as pain.
Ice packs should be applied an hour on and two hours off for the first day and again on the second if there is continued swelling.
As for the "C" in the method, use a compression bandage placed snugly around the foot to stabilize and help with swelling and pain.
Finally, make sure to keep your foot elevated as much as possible for at least two days by propping it up on a comfortable surface.
Stay off the injured foot as much as possible. There is no way to completely prevent foot sprains but wearing appropriately-sized, sturdy footwear may help reduce the chances.
For those susceptible to these sprains should embark on a stretching and strengthening program to further reduce the chance of injuries.
Warning
Get medical treatment if significant pain from a foot sprain lasts more than two days. Although most sprains are not serious, occasionally there are incidences in which additional problems develop from a seemingly innocuous incident.
One of these possible complications is a fallen arch, where the area between the heel and toe which is typically arched shape flattens out both transversely and longitudinally. Chronic pain to the foot may also occur in rare situations. Surgery to fully repair the foot is called for in special circumstances.

Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is the most common medical problem encountered during pregnancy, complicating 2 to 3 percent of pregnancies. It is important to treat hypertension during pregnancy since it can lead to serious pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia. However, not all antihypertensive agents are safe during pregnancy.
Identification
The drugs considered to be safe for treating mild and moderate hypertension during pregnancy are methyldopa, nifedipine and labetalol. More specifically, there are several studies that demonstrate the safety of methyldopa not only during pregnancy, but also during the 5 to 10 years following childbirth. The safety records of labetalol and nifedipine are not as well established as those of methyldopa.
Function
Methyldopa is a central alpha-2 receptor agonist, which acts on total peripheral resistance (TPR) and cardiac output, and consequently lowers blood pressure. Labetalol lowers blood pressure by blocking several adrenergic receptors and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. The effects of labetalol on heart rate or cardiac output are minimal. Nifedipine is a calcium-channel blocker. As suggested by its name, nifedipine blocks calcium channels in muscle cells in the heart and blood vessels, and consequently, reduces muscle contraction and increases blood vessel diameter. As a result, both cardiac output and total peripheral resistance are bought down, leading to lower blood pressure.
Size
In the United States, about 1 in 100 pregnancies is complicated by preexisting hypertension. About 1 in 20 pregnancies is complicated by gestational hypertension (high blood pressure developed during pregnancy). The rate of preeclampsia is 1 to 2 percent.
Effects
Hypertension is one of the major causes for pregnancy complications and maternal mortality. Pregnancy-induced hypertension is responsible for 16 to 20 percent of all maternal deaths in America. Hypertensive disorder also increases the risk of fetal growth restriction, eclamptic seizures, pulmonary edema, intracerebral hemorrhage, intrauterine fetal death and premature delivery. Thus, it is very important to keep blood pressure under control during pregnancy.
Warning
Since methyldopa can go into breast milk, consult with your doctor about the use of methyldopa during breast feeding. Avoid the following classes of antihypertensive agents during pregnancy: ACE inhibitors, diuretics and beta-blockers. These medications have been shown to have adverse effects on the fetus, including growth retardation, respiratory distress syndrome and prepartum death.

Epsom salts have been used for decades in cleansing, both internally as a laxative and externally to rejuvenate the body from aches and pains. The magnesium sulfate also cleanses toxins by balancing the amount of magnesium in your system.
Exterior
For generations, Epsom salts have been the go-to soak for tired, aching feet. The product is also used as a healing bath for bruises and bumps and as a softening facial scrub.
Interior
When mixed with water, Epsom salts produce a solution to relieve constipation. This mix can be taken orally or in an enema and has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Effects
The scientific name for Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate. The mineral can be absorbed through the skin, so it can remove toxins by easing many symptoms of magnesium deficiency, like aching muscles and high stress. It can also help circulation.
Warning
Always follow manufacturer's directions when using Epsom salts, and consult your doctor first if you have a surplus of magnesium in your body. Also, if you are pregnant or have serious bowel or stomach issues, ask your doctor before use.
Fun Fact
Epsom salts were first discovered and used in Epsom, England, more than 400 years ago.

A third-degree burn is the most severe type of burn. It causes full loss of skin thickness and goes down to the tissue layers beneath the skin. This type of burn requires immediate medical attention to prevent further damage.
Signs
Signs of a third-degree burn include charred skin that can appear blackened or white. Destruction of the nerves may cause numbness, and swelling may be present.
Causes
Most third-degree burns are caused by scalding hot liquid, chemicals, contact with flames or electrocution. They can also be caused by contact with an extremely hot object for an extended period of time.
First Aid
Call 911, make sure the person is breathing and perform CPR if needed. Cover the wound with a sterile bandage, elevate the burned area above heart level and monitor the person's vital signs until help arrives.
Avoid
Do not apply any type of ointment, cream or ice to the wound, and do not remove clothing that is stuck. Don't blow on the burn or peel the dead skin. If the airway is burned, do not elevate the head.
Treatment
Treatment includes removing the dead skin and providing intravenous fluids, antibiotic creams, pain medication and skin grafting. Some severe cases may require reconstructive surgery.

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. It starts as a build up of plaque, and if not kept in check, plaque can progress to gingivitis. If gingivitis isn't treated in its early stages it can become periodontal disease. Brushing your teeth, flossing and visiting the dentist can prevent gingivitis. You can also minimize the occurrence of gingivitis through proper nutrition.
Instructions
1. Eat plenty of fiber. Diets rich in high-fiber such as vegetables, beans, whole grains and fruit help to build your immune system. A healthy immune system is in a better position to fight the gingivitis causing bacteria than a body with a compromised immune system.
2. Choose crunchy natural foods. Foods that crunch help to clean your teeth. Soft foods on the other hand tend to get caught in between your teeth thus promoting bacteria growth. If you do eat soft foods that stick between your teeth, it's best to brush your teeth afterwards.
3. Take your vitamins. In addition to proper nutrition, taking supplements help to fight gingivitis. Vitamins and minerals are known to help fight the bacterial growth. Eat a diet rich in vitamin C, B, zinc, iron, magnesium, selenium, calcium and potassium. Many of the whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables are packed with these vitamins and minerals.
4. Avoid sugars. Bacteria love sugar. The more sugar left hanging around your mouth and in between your teeth, the more fertile ground it is for gingivitis. A diet rich in sweets, white flour and fruit juices is a recipe for gingivitis growth.

There is a difference between being sad and being clinically depressed. Here are some ideas to determine if you have depression.
Instructions
1. There is a difference between being sad and clinically depressed. The term sad relates to specific situations where it would be expected you feel sad. For example, someone dying, an argument with a partner, etc.
2. On the other hand, depression can be experienced without a specific stressor. It can also originate from a stressor but feelings of extreme sadness continue long after what would be considered expected. For an example, it is normal to feel sad after someone dies. If after 9 months, you are unable to get up in the morning,, cry often, etc, then it would be considered depression.
3. The following are symptoms of clinical depression:
Persistent feelings of sadness
Persistent feelings of anxiety
Feelings of "numbness" to feelings or mood
Change in sleep (too much or too little, or difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep)
Change in appetite (less or more of an appetite
Loss of pleasure and interest in activities once enjoyed, including sex
Restlessness, irritability
Difficulty concentrating, staying on task or finishing a task
Difficulty making a decision
Difficulty with memory
Fatigue or loss of energy
Feeling guilty, hopeless or worthless
Thoughts of suicide or death
4. If you experience 3 or more of the above for more than a month to 3 months, it would be advised that you seek professional help for an evaluations.
5. If you are still unsure, below are websites that offer free online depression screenings.
6. Depression can be treated with medication and/or therapy.
Set up an appointment with a psychiatrist for medications or with a therapist for counseling or therapy.
7. Online therapy can also be helpful. Go to www.onlinetherapyclinic.net for more information.

Herpes is a common viral infection resulting in cold sores that affect the mouth area or genital sores. Some types of food are more likely than others to trigger herpes breakouts and should be avoided as much as possible, particularly if an individual notices outbreaks regularly occur after eating certain kinds of food.
Amino Acids
L-lysine inhibits viral growth and so is good at preventing herpes outbreaks. However, another amino acid called L-arginine suppresses L-lysine.
L-arginine foods
L-arginine is abundant in nuts and nut butters, seeds, chocolate, coconut, raisins, gelatin and carob. Whole grains such as wheat and oats, along with lentils and soybeans, also are high in L-arginine.
Citrus
Citrus fruits and juices should be avoided as much as possible, including grapefruit, lemons, limes and tomatoes.
Acidic Foods
Other acidic foods to avoid besides citrus include meat, vinegar, alcohol and tea.
Processed Food
Processed and refined foods such as white flour and white pasta, fast food, and boxed convenience dinners and side dishes can trigger herpes breakouts. Sugar and sugary foods such as jam and soda can as well.

Cirrhosis is a condition of the liver in which healthy liver tissue is replaced by fibrous scar tissue. It's associated with chronic liver disease, which can have many causes, such as alcoholism and hepatitis. There are several tests for cirrhosis and a diagnosis is usually made by evaluating the combination of these results.
Bilirubin
Bilirubin is produced by the liver and this level can increase when the liver becomes cirrhotic. A test of the bilirubin level is a routine blood test with the reference range being between .3 and 1.9 milligrams of bilirubin per deciliter (mg/dl) of blood. A value of up to 34 mg/dl bilirubin can indicate mild cirrhosis, a value between 34 and 50 mg/dl is associated with moderate cirrhosis and a value greater than 50 mg/dl can indicate severe cirrhosis.
Albumin
The serum albumin level is also a routine blood test. Albumin is the most common protein in the blood and is used to maintain an even distribution of fluids within the body. A high albumin level is associated with good liver function and a normal serum albumin level is in the range of 40 to 55 grams per liter (g/l). A value of 35 to 40 g/l may indicate mild cirrhosis, a value of 28 to 35 g/l is associated with moderate cirrhosis and a serum albumin value less than 28 g/l may mean severe cirrhosis.
International Normalized Ratio (INR)
The INR is a measure of the amount of time that it takes for the blood to clot. It's a ratio of the sample's clotting time and the reference clotting time. Low clotting times are associated with good liver function and the normal range is 0.8 to 1.2. Mild cirrhosis may be associated with values between 1.2 and 1.7, an INR between 1.71 and 2.2 can mean moderate cirrhosis and an INR greater than 2.2 may indicate severe cirrhosis.
Ascites
An accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity is formally known as ascites. This condition is usually caused by cirrhosis, although it also has many other causes. Mild ascites is associated with moderate cirrhosis and severe ascites may be indicated by severe ascites.
Hepatic Encephalopathy
Hepatic encephalopathy is a neuropsychiatric disorder caused by elevated levels of toxic substances in the blood. This occurs when the liver begins to lose its ability to remove these substances as fast as they're produced. Hepatic encephalopathy grades 1 and 2 are associated with moderate cirrhosis, and more severe forms of hepatic encephalopathy are associated with severe cirrhosis.

Oddly enough, kudzu has been used for centuries to support hair growth. More recently, companies have begun to market body and hair care products made from kudzu.
History
The use of kudzu for hair growth began in China, where it was commonly used as a supplement for hair regrowth in balding men.
Key Ingredients
Its hair regenerative properties shouldn't be surprising, as it contains multiple ingredients known to support hair health, including saw palmetto, silica, biotin and folic acid.
Rediscovery Of Kudzu
Recently, a woman named Rose Bianco rediscovered a recipe her family used for years to treat skin conditions. The main ingredient in it was kudzu.
Kudzu Products
After perfecting the recipe, Bianco began a line of products produced from kudzu, including skin cream, lotion, eye gel, soap, body butter, body mist, lip balm, shampoo and hair butter.
Hair Butter
The hair butter is especially useful for encouraging hair growth. It is rich in protein and vitamins that help moisturize and restore damaged hair to its original condition.
Thousands of Americans have undergone gastric banding weight loss surgery. The outpatient procedure is generally less invasive than some other types of bariatric surgery. As with any procedure, there are risks, so people considering gastric banding should seek medical advice.
Types
There are two types of gastric banding procedures available in the United States---the Lap-Band System and the Realize Band. During both procedures, a surgeon laparoscopically inserts a band and a saline-filled port into a patient's stomach.
Function
During post-surgery follow-up visits, the doctor administers saline injections to adjust the band. The band will need to be loosened or tightened over time to manage weight loss.
Time Frame
Patients must heal before their first band adjustment. Following surgery, most people will require about six weeks of recovery time before their first adjustment, according to the Consumer Guide to Bariatric Surgery.
Diet
Immediately following gastric banding surgery, patients may be advised to follow a liquid diet for a few weeks while their stomachs heal. Patients will gradually build up to eating solid foods again.
Weight Loss
Many gastric banding patients lose 40 to 60 percent of their excess body weight within one to three years following their procedures, according to the Consumer Guide to Bariatric Surgery.

Teething can cause a great deal of stress and discomfort in a baby, which may lead to issues beyond the pain in his or her gums. A teething fever can sometimes be the result. Though it bears monitoring, it's usually nothing to be concerned about and you can take steps to help relieve the baby's fever while she is teething.
Instructions
1. Give the baby a cold teething ring to chew on. Teething rings can be chilled in the refrigerator (though experts discourage placing it in the freezer since a ring that is too cold will hurt the baby's gums) and given to the baby to gnaw on. It will help soothe the gums and relieve the discomfort of a fever.
2. Wipe the baby down in a bath of lukewarm water. Hot and cold water both cause problems of their own during a teething fever, but lukewarm water will help bleed off some of the excessive heat. Leave the baby slightly damp after the bath: the water will help cool him down further as it evaporates.
3. Refrain from bundling the baby up. The instinctive response for comforting a baby is to swaddle her in blankets or heavy clothes--which only adds to the heat of the fever. Keep her clothing comfortable, but make sure her skin can bleed off the heat comfortably.
4. Feed the baby cold slices of banana. It will help relieve irritated gums and the softness of the banana will keep the baby from choking on it.
5. Massage the baby's gums with your finger. That will stimulate the flow of blow and relieve the itching and discomfort of teething. As the inflammation is reduced, the fever should diminish as well.
6. Apply medical remedies as prescribed by your doctor. Aspirin and adult medications are never recommended for a baby, but certain types of ibuprofen are designed for children and will do much to help relieve a teething fever. Advil and Tylenol both sell droplets specifically for reducing infant fever on their websites (see Resources below) and your doctor may be able to recommend other medications as well.

Often referred to as applied kinesiology, muscle testing is a way that the subconscious mind can communicate its needs through the body. Through noting muscle strengths or weaknesses when particular foods, vitamins or herbs are held, muscle testing may help identify vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Muscle tests are used in order to monitor physiologic responses to a physical, chemical or mental stimulus.
Self-Testing Techniques
Before performing a muscle test on yourself or having one performed on you, make sure that you are not hungry or thirsty. A muscle test will not give accurate results if you are dehydrated.
One way to perform a muscle test on yourself is to begin by touching the thumb to the middle finger on each hand to form a ring. Now link the two rings together.
Say something true, such as "My name is (give your name)." At the same time, pull the interlaced fingers as if you are trying to separate them. You may find that they are not easily separated. Next, repeat the process except say something untrue. This time, you may find that the fingers come flying apart. This is a process of training the mind to create a different response for truth and falsehoods.
Now that your subconscious mind has a way to physically communicate, try testing different foods and substances to judge your body's reaction to them. For instance, place a substance into your pocket or under your arm which you want tested. Perform the test and ask the body if what you are holding is what it needs.
Another way to test yourself is to hold the herb, vitamin or food in both hands. Stand up straight. If you begin to lose balance and fall backward, it is not something that is good for your body. If you begin to lean forward, what you are holding is a good choice.
Muscle Test Another Person
The person being tested should begin by standing straight and tall. With one arm, she should be holding the herb, vitamin or food. The other arm should be extended straight out to the side, with the palm facing down. The person performing the test should push down on the arm with one of her hands, and her other hand should be placed firmly upon the shoulder of the person being tested to help her keep her balance.
If what she is holding with her opposite arm is good for her body or is what her body needs, the extended arm will remain strong and will not easily be pushed down. However, if what she is holding is not good for her body, the extended arm will become very weak and will easily be pushed down when pressure is applied by the other person. This method can also be used to test the body's responses to thoughts, sounds, colors and emotions.

If your Pap test comes back with an abnormal reading and you've been having back pain, you should tell your doctor. Back pain is one of the symptoms of advanced cervical cancer.
Pap Smear
A Pap test (also called a Pap smear) is a test that screens for abnormal changes to the cervix. If the results of your Pap test are abnormal, your doctor will likely perform other tests to investigate further.
Cervical Cancer
In its early stages, cervical cancer has few symptoms, according to MedLine Plus, which makes it important to get regular Pap screenings, especially if you have had multiple sexual partners. One of the possible early signs is bleeding outside of your normal menstrual cycle.
Back Pain
While back pain, especially in the lower back, is a symptom of late-stage cervical cancer, it's not among the more common symptoms. More common symptoms include pelvic pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, weight loss and fatigue.
Warning
While back pain can have numerous benign causes, it is also a symptom of other gynecological cancers, including ovarian and uterine cancer. See a doctor for any unexplained lower back pain that doesn't go away after a week or two.
Prevention
Early detection of cervical cancer is crucial. According to CancerHelp UK, the survival rate for cancer that has not spread beyond the cervix is between 90 and 99 percent depending on the factors involved. Cervical cancer is slow-growing, so having a regular Pap test greatly increases the chances of finding it early.

Neuralgia, or pain along the path of a single nerve or multiple nerves, can fall under two types: central neuralgia and peripheral neuralgia. The pain can be sharp, severe or shooting and can come and go. Fortunately, there are quite a number of treatment options for neuralgia pain.
Medicine
Medications are often the first treatment for neuralgia. Medications to treat neuralgia include anticonvulsants, steroids and painkillers. These medications help to control the burning and pain associated with neuralgia.
Surgery
When medication doesn't relieve neuralgia pain, surgery can be employed to stimulate the nerve. Surgical procedures include microvascular decompression, balloon compression and severing the nerve.
TENS
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or TENS, is a treatment that involves applying electrodes over the painful nerve areas. The patient can utilize the TENS unit according to their pain level and pain frequency.
Radiation
High doses of radiation applied to the root of the nerve is another treatment option to reduce or eliminate neuralgia pain.
Alternatives
According to the Mayo Clinic, some patients relieve their pain using complimentary or alternative treatments. These include acupuncture, chiropractic procedures, biofeedback, glycerol injections, topical creams, patches, vitamin therapy and nutritional therapy.
There are various possible reasons for poor vision--eye strain, disease, allergies, poor diet. And there are an equal number of ways to improve the eyesight including eye exercises, herbal remedies and homeopathic medications. Homeopathy is an alternative medical practice in which small doses of a healing ingredient are used to stimulate the body's self-healing abilities. There are several homeopathic remedies often recommended as treatments to improve eyesight.
Instructions
1. Dr. Edward Kondrot, an ophthalmologist who includes homeopathic remedies in his practice, recommends taking Ruta Gaveolens. Ruta reduces stiffness in the eye and eyelids that can lead to eye strain and headaches. Ruta is especially useful for those sensitive to light.
2. Argentum Nitricum is helpful when you might be overusing your eyes or doing extensive detailed work. It helps the eyes by strengthening the eye muscles, which in turn keeps the vision focused and steady.
3. Use homeopathic tissue salts. Tissue salts taken for over six months can help improve vision. Cindee Gardner, PhD, a homeopath, writes that these tissue salts "help rebuild the eyes and tissues at a cellular level." Tissue salts to try include Magnesia Phosphorica and Calcarea Fluorata.
4. Kali phosphoricum has been used for blurred vision and tired eyes. According to the Truestar Health Encyclopedia, "This remedy can be helpful when exhaustion from illness, overwork, or stress has led to eyestrain."
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, commonly done to treat endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, uterine disorders and cancer. There are several options for removal, including through the abdomen in an open surgery, laparoscopically via several small abdominal incisions or through the vagina.
Hysterectomies
Discuss the best removal technique with your doctor. Your medical history and current condition will be a factor in deciding whether one method is preferred over another. You may not qualify for a vaginal hysterectomy for various reasons, including age, weight and underlying medical conditions. For example, patients with an enlarged uterus should not undergo a vaginal hysterectomy because the incision will need to be larger to remove it.
Abdominal hysterectomy
According to the National Library of Medicine, an abdominal hysterectomy involves a 5-inch to 7-inch incision just above the pubic hair line, typically done so the scar is hidden underneath underwear and bathing suits. Expect to stay in the hospital for 2 to 4 days.
Vaginal hysterectomy
A vaginal hysterectomy requires an incision in the vagina through which the uterus will be removed. The benefit with this method is that no abdominal muscles need to be cut. Dissolving stitches will be used. Patients can expect to stay in the hospital 2-3 days.
Cons
The risks and possible complications with a hysterectomy, regardless of the method, are excessive blood loss, perforation of the bowel or bladder, problems with the anesthesia, infected wound sites, or the wound reopening. Patients should contact their doctor as soon as possible if they develop excessive bleeding, a fever or oozing from the wound site, as this can indicate an infection.
Recovery
A vaginal hysterectomy allows the patient to resume normal activities within one to two weeks. An abdominal hysterectomy on the other hand, requires four to eight weeks for a person to get back to normal.

Alcoholism recovery programs use several methods to treat the addiction. They include motivational enhancement strategies, learning cognitive-behavioral coping skills and using peer support groups. Alcoholism treatment also encourages total abstinence, so you must plan to quit smoking entirely and not just cut down. Alcohol therapy recommends that you consult an addiction counselor, and, although you may not need to, you may wish to do so if you fail to quit smoking without it.
Instructions
Motivation Enhancement
1. Think about the impact smoking has on your life, and the lives of your family and friends.
2. Accept responsibility for smoking. Don't blame it on stress. Realize that smoking is a decision you make.
3. Make a commitment to change your habit and stop smoking.
Coping Skills
4. Find out what needs are filled by smoking, even if it is only a feeling of relaxation.
5. Find new ways to satisfy those needs; perhaps a hobby, sports, physical exercise or reading.
6. Learn to manage emotional needs and avoid emotional vulnerabilities.
Peer Support
7. Make a list of friends who will support you, preferably non-smokers or people who have quit, and get their telephone numbers.
8. Call someone on your list instead of lighting up when you have a desire to smoke.
9. Join your local chapter of Nicotine Anonymous. They should be listed in the phone book. If not, go to you can find their website in the reference section.
A person may have a nervous habit like biting their nails.
Nervousness can affect anyone, but people react differently to anxious feelings. You may have an upset stomach, a rapid heartbeat, a dry mouth, sweaty palms, trembling or feelings of dizziness. These are the physical effects of your mind's reaction to stress. The important thing is how you cope when presented with nervous feelings.
Eat
These colorful vegetables can help calm you down.
Foods like bread, pasta and other carbohydrates are known as comfort foods because they release serotonin into the brain. Serotonin is a feel good chemical that calms you and also helps to regulate sleep. Whole grain versions of these foods are better for you than their refined grain counterparts. Vegetables high in Vitamin B can also quell nervousness. Bell peppers, corn and mushrooms are all helpful in combating nerves.
Cutting back
Reducing or eliminating your caffeine intake can vastly reduce feelings of nervousness. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain; this blockage tells the pituitary gland that there's an emergency and the pituitary gland releases adrenal in response. Adrenal will increase heart rate, pump blood faster and dilate your pupils. This increase in bodily response can increase feelings of anxiety and nervousness. Rather than coffee in the morning, try herbal tea. Instead of a candy bar in the afternoon to wake up, try an energizing breathing exercise.
Breathing Exercises
One of the main symptoms of nervousness is shallow breathing. People will breathe quickly and shallowly when in a panicked state to increase blood flow. When you feel yourself start to breathe or speak too quickly, stop. Take a deep breath. Count while inhaling for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds and then exhale for eight seconds. This is known as the 4-7-8 breathing technique and can be very relaxing. Remember that although you feel nervous, people around you may not be able to tell, so try to relax and act confident.
