Cayenne pepper is a member of the capsicum family of vegetables (nightshade), which includes jalapeno, paprika, and sweet and bell peppers. While originally native to Central and South America, it now is grown worldwide for use as a spice. While these peppers provide their users with various health benefits, they do pose certain safety hazards and must be used and handled with care.


Identification


Cayenne peppers, also referred to as capsicum, derive their heat-inducing qualities from a chemical compound known as capsaicin. Capsaicin is a neuropeptide-active agent that affects the synthesis, storage, transport and release of substance P, the agent responsible for the transmission of pain impulses from the peripheral to the central nervous system. When it binds to a protein called TRPV1, capsaicin causes heat-sensing neurons to open at a threshold below body temperature, causing a sensation of heat.


Effects








Cayenne peppers are recognized for their ability to promote various health benefits as well as for the reduction of arthritis pain. Still, the negative effects associated with capsaicin must not be underestimated. When this ingredient gets into the eyes, it initiates severe pain, intense tearing, conjunctivitis (infection of the membrane lining the eyelids) and blepharospasm--involuntary contraction of the eyelids. Treatment

Make Crystals With Table Salt

Grow salt crystals on a string in a jar at home.


Salt is a mineral called halite, made of cubic crystals, according to the Think Quest website. These crystals have square sides like a box. Minerals create crystals because the atoms---miniature particles---replicate in three-dimensions. This growth process results in the flat planes of the salt crystals. As an experiment, make your own salt crystals to watch how they develop. Use common household items to conduct a salt crystal experiment at home or in a classroom. It takes only a few days and common salt to produce your own crystals.


Instructions


1. Add warm water from the tap to the clear container to make it half-full.


2. Use a stir stick to dissolve salt in the water. Keep adding salt until as long as the salt keeps dissolving.


3. Tie string or thread to the middle of a stick. Set the stick across the glass with the string hanging outside of the glass. Cut the string so it hangs free and won't touch the bottom of the glass.


4. Put the string in the water with the stick resting across the opening of the glass.


5. Check the salt crystals daily. The evaporating water leaves crystals forming on the string.


6. Salt crystals form as the saltwater evaporates.


Examine the salt crystals with a magnifying glass to see the shapes of the developing crystals.

Instruction For A Faux Cloisonne

Make your own cloisonne jewelry at home.


Traditionally, cloisonne is created with metals and glass enamels. Faux cloisonne, on the other hand, can be made at home with products that are available at many craft, hobby, or discount stores. There is no metal work or soldering that is required, the pieces are made with polymer clay and resin. The resin helps to add depth to the piece, and helps to give it the classic cloisonne look. This project will take one to two days, including cooling and drying times.


Instructions


Faux Cloisonne Pin


1. Choose a paper pattern or stamp in the design you want for your pin. Roll out a piece of scrap clay and transfer the pattern to the clay. Make sure that the edges of the pattern are clean and fairly deep. A ball stylus works well here, or a dried up ball point pen. Bake this piece according to manufacturers directions. This is the mold for the pin.


2. Place your cooled mold on a work surface. Apply the release agent to the mold. Roll out a piece of clay, then lay it on the mold. Use a rolling pin to press the clay into the mold. Remove the clay and make sure the impression came out well. If not, roll up the clay and begin again.


3. Trim the outside edges with a craft knife. Be very precise and neat here, this will be your finished piece. Brush the clay with mica powder. Gold or silver is most often used for this part, as they look like the metal used in traditional cloisonne. Bake the clay according to directions.


4. Let the piece cool. Use straight pins to add the liquid clay between the raised ridges on the piece. Use a different pin for each color to keep things tidy. Once it is to your liking, bake the piece again, using the directions from the liquid clay maker. Let cool.


5. Mix the resin according to directions on the package. Coat the piece with the resin and let it cure. Glue a pin back onto the piece.

Remove Genital Warts

Of more than 100 types of human papilloma virus (HPV), about 30 directly affect the genitals. HPV can produce warts that range from smooth, small bumps to larger cauliflower-like lumps. Because genital warts are caused by a virus, it is difficult to prevent them from recurring. They can be removed, however, through various means.








Instructions


1. Freeze them off. One wart-removal technique is called cryocautery, which is literally freezing the off with liquid nitrogen. This can be an unpleasant treatment for warts on the genitalia, but it is effective in cases of persistent wart growth. It can be performed in stages every one to three weeks until the warts are more under control.


2. Use electricity and/or lasers. Harder to treat genital warts can be burned off, with lasers or electric current. These techniques literally cauterize the blood vessels feeding the wart, which causes it to fall and die off. The process can be expensive and quite painful, so local anesthetic is usually desirable.


3. Apply topical treatments. In more minor cases, a topical application of podphyllin resin can be painted on a wart by a nurse or doctor. After several applications, this technique is sometimes effective at stopping cell growth in the wart, and can prevent a larger outbreak. Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) can also be applied by a medical professional to dissolve small warts.


4. Cut it out. Genital warts can be surgically excised, which essentially means they are cut off. This does not simply mean the outer surface of the wart is removed. It must be taken out at the root. A technique known as the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) involves the insertion of a looped surgical instrument beneath the wart to cut it off entirely.

Wrap A Foot Ace Bandage

An Ace bandage can be wrapped around the foot in order to provide support to the muscle that has sustained an injury. An Ace bandage can reduce swelling, hold on a cold pack or improve blood flow. A doctor will typically recommend whether a foot Ace bandage is an appropriate treatment.


Instructions


1. Start at the top of the foot. Keep the foot Ace bandage rolled with the loose end at the top center of the foot.

3. Continue to wrap the Ace bandage over the ankle area. Wrap toward the ankle by forming a figure-eight shape. While wrapping with the foot bandage, leave the heel uncovered.


4. Go behind the ankle using an upward motion. Once you have gone behind the ankle, move the bandage to move over across the top of your foot. Take one more pass underneath the foot to finish wrapping the Ace bandage.


5. Fasten the foot bandage using the enclosed metal clips or with surgical tape. Newer versions also are self adhesive and do not require extra enclosures. Be careful not to wrap or fasten the foot bandage too tightly or you can reduce blood flow to the injured area.

Seroquel Withdrawal Side Effects







Seroquel is the brand name for the prescription drug quetiapine fumarate, approved for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. An anti-psychotic produced by AstraZeneca, the drug is effective, but has many possible side effects which can lead people to discontinue its use. The drug is not addicting, but withdrawal symptoms can occur because the brain adjusts to a decrease in this type of medication.


Discontinuation Reasons


People may decide to discontinue using Seroquel for several reasons. They may not like the way they feel while taking the drug, or they may feel so much better that they may believe their mental disorder has been cured. There also are many unpleasant and even dangerous side effects associated with Seroquel which lead people to stop taking it.


Side Effects


Possible Seroquel side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, weight gain, high blood glucose and diabetes. Seroquel use also is linked to two central nervous system disorders: tardive dyskinesia, which causes involuntary facial movements, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a potentially fatal condition. Withdrawal Side Effects

Insomnia is a special case for certain Seroquel users. Eastern red cedar, a juniper conifer native to more than 30 states east of the Rocky Mountains, has been used for centuries by Native Americans as a general tonic and natural remedy for a number of physical ailments. The familiarly scented, aromatic wood is used in furniture and pencil manufacturing, and is a natural insect repellent. The oil is toxic only if taken internally, but the leaves, berries and roots are used in alternative medicine preparations.


Aroma Therapy


Eastern red cedar oil, also called juniper or cedarwood oil, is readily available in most health food stores. The oil can be added in small amounts to heated steam vaporizers or potpourri pots as an inhalant to ease respiratory and congestive problems, asthma symptoms, bronchitis and head colds. Cedarwood incense is also reported to have a calming effect on the nerves and those suffering from anxiety.


External Remedies


Because of its antibiotic and astringent qualities, cedarwood oil may be applied in small quantities to ease itchy skin and acne. Simply dip a cotton swab into a small amount of oil and apply directly onto affected area. When diluted with water, the oil can be used in treating dandruff and oily skin as a hair rinse or in the bath. Mixed with a body oil or moisturizing cream, cedarwood oil may also be used to combat the results of dermatitis and psoriasis, ease arthritis pain, and to treat rheumatism. Several drops of oil added to a hot bath can also soothe aching and arthritic muscles. Powdered eastern red cedar can be purchased at health food stores or herbalists and may be used as a poultice to heal or prevent infections from cuts or stings.


Drop some warm water on the center of a gauze square or bandage and sprinkle with some cedar powder before applying to a cut or sore. It may be changed daily. A concentrated application of red cedar tea can be applied to skin rashes and will ease the pain of sunburn.


Internal Remedies


The use of eastern red cedar, or juniper tea, is believed to be extremely beneficial in treating stomach pain and upset stomachs, diarrhea, coughing, headache, and possibly stomach ulcers. It can also be used as a diuretic, but amounts should be limited to small quantities. It's easily made by placing a dozen young berry-less, leafy twigs in a quart of cold water, then bringing to a boil and allowing to simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain it to remove any plant materials and use as regular tea.


The berries can also be brewed into a tea. They can be purchased from herbalists or organic food shops either dried or already bagged. Use one level tsp. of dried berries per cup of boiling water and let steep for at least 15 minutes.








Cautions


Do not drink the tea during pregnancy, breastfeeding or heavy menstruation. It is known to stimulate the uterus, and may cause heavier bleeding or labor contractions.


Do not drink the tea if suffering from kidney disease or infection.


Do not drink the tea daily for more than about five weeks in a row.


Always skin test the oil or poultice for allergic reactions before repeated use.

Make Neck Adjustments On An Electric Guitar







Occasionally, changes in humidity, temperature or string gauge can alter the amount of bow in the neck of an electric guitar. Ideally, the neck should have a slight forward bow, meaning that the neck bows out away from the strings. If you hear buzzing sounds due to strings hitting frets when you're playing, for example, then you may need to adjust the neck.


Instructions








1. Find the location of the truss rod adjustment head. Depending on the guitar, it might be at the base of the headstock or it might be at the other end of the neck.


2. Determine what type of tool you need to make the adjustment. Typically, you either need an Allen wrench or a hex nut socket wrench.


3. Mark the present position of the truss head. It's easy to lose track of the original truss head setting, so make some kind of (easily removable) mark to indicate where you started.


4. Make a small turn of the truss head. Use a quarter turn and then check the results. A little turn goes a long way in adjusting the bow of the neck.


5. Replace any parts that you removed from the guitar to make the adjustment. If you had to remove a cover, for example, then replace the cover when you're satisfied with your adjustment.

The cost per body part per injection treatment is between $250 and $500. On the average, an individual receives treatment on at least two body parts. Since the treatments are done once a week over a period of 8 to 10 weeks, the total costs will run anywhere from $2,500 to $4000 per body part. Since Lipostabil injections are considered to be a cosmetic procedure, it will generally not be covered by medical insurance.


How It Is Done


Lipostabil is mostly used on the abdomen, chin or thighs. The physician will give the individual a treatment of twenty to forty injections of Lipostabil in the desired area. Once the medication is injected, the fat deposits will be broken down. They will later be released through the individual's feces, sweat or urine. This procedure is generally done once a week over a period of 8 to 10 weeks. It is a painless procedure for some and no recovery time is needed. Most patients will see results in approximately 4 weeks. It is best to continue exercising moderately to see the best results.


Side Effects


After the injections are done, the patient may feel a tingling sensation in the treated area. Over the next few days, she may notice some aching, bruising or swelling in the area. These side effects normally appear roughly 72 hours after the procedure is done. For pain relief, ice packs can be applied or painkillers can be taken.








Some other possible side effects would be the formation of nodules on the injected area or permanent reddening of the skin. Some individuals may suffer from diarrhea or circulatory problems. These side effects are only temporary.


Risks


Careful consideration should be taking when one is interested in taking Lipostabil injections. It is not an approved medication to be used in the United States. In addition to it not being approved by the FDA, there are also three medical associations that have issued health warnings against the use of injected medication. They are the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Treat Colds

A cold, while seldom fatal, can be pretty miserable while it lasts...and some of them seem to last and last and last. Although there really is, as of yet, no real cure for the common cold, there are certain things you can do to treat one and make yourself feel a bit less wretched. If you do not care for pills and you just can't swallow one more spoonful of cough syrup, who not cook up one of these tasty soups or teas from around the world? Read on to learn treat colds.


Instructions


1. Try some Tom Yum. This Thai favorite, made with chicken stock, coconut milk, garlic, lemon grass and hot chiles, is a much spicier version than Grandma's chicken soup (unless, of course, your Granny's from Thailand), but those spices can help penetrate that fog in your head and wake up those numb tastebuds.








2. Enjoy another chicken soup variation, this one from the Philippines. The Filipino version, called tinola, is made with green papaya along with onion, garlic, ginger, chiles and fish sauce.


3. Slice up some chile peppers, garlic and onions, then fry them in olive oil and eat them up. This is a traditional cold remedy from the United Arab Emirates. In Morocco they cure colds with an omelet made with garlic, black pepper and olives.


4. Open a jar of kimchi for a classic Korean cold remedy. Green tea with lemon is also used for colds in Korea.


5. Sip some tea made from crushed ginger steeped with sugar in boiling water for 30 minutes. This Chinese folk remedy will help to improve your circulation as well as clearing your head. In Mexico, a medicinal tea is made from honey, lemon and cinnamon.


6. Boil some turmeric in milk with a little sugar for a Pakistani folk remedy, flavoring it with a little ghee (clarified butter) if desired. Butter (or lamb fat) is also used in a beverage made from hot milk mixed with honey that is a popular cold remedy in Uzbekistan.

Cure A Vodka Hangover

Drinking always seems like a good idea at the time. It's only in retrospect that you realize you should have stopped a few shots or mixed drinks before you actually did. Instructions


1. Drink lots of water. Because alcohol is a diuretic it flushes the fluids from your body, leaving you with that terrible hung-over feeling. Drink at least eight ounces of water for every alcoholic beverage you consumed to replenish your fluids.








2. Take two ibuprofen. Taking a pain reliever such as ibuprofen will relieve the crushing headache associated with a hangover. Acetaminophen will also do the trick, as will aspirin, but if your stomach is doing back flips you may want to avoid aspirin and stick with a more gentle pain reliever.


3. Eat a banana. Drinking flushes more than just fluids from your body, it also diminishes your body's stores of essential salts. Bananas contain many of those essential salts, and eating one when you're hung over will set you on the path to hangover recovery.


4. Drink a glass of 100 percent orange juice. Drinking alcohol lowers your blood sugar and can leave you feeling weak and shaky. Having a glass of orange juice will help regulate your blood sugar and replace the Vitamin C depleted by drinking.


5. Get some sleep. After you've chugged some water, had a glass of juice, taken some pain reliever and eaten a banana, lay down and try to give your body some rest. You'll wake up feeling rested and hangover-free.

Strattera
