Treat Hypoglycemia With Natural Remedies

Hypoglycemia refers to a condition that is prevalent when blood sugar drops too low, normally beneath a threshold of 70 milligrams per deciliter. Often afflicting diabetics, insufficient glucose can result from improper nutrition, too much physical activity or an overabundance of insulin. Diabetes medications - prescribed to regulate blood sugar - can also be a factor in hypoglycemic episodes. Affecting mental capacity, vision and heart rate, hypoglycemia can sometimes lead to fainting, seizures or even a coma.

Addressing Hypoglycemia With Diet

Although non-diabetics can experience hypoglycemia, this malady is most frequent among those with unstable blood sugar. Keeping glucose levels within normal range is therefore central to minimizing the number of hypoglycemic incidents. Ways of achieving this need not require drugs. Eschewing sugar, sweets and refined carbohydrates, for example, prevents extreme spikes and subsequent dips in glucose presence. Emphasizing lean protein sources and green vegetables likewise inhibits blood sugar volatility. Also important are eating enough and not letting too many hours elapse between meals, particularly when glucose-inhibiting medicine is prescribed. Maintaining a regular schedule of nutritional intake is a primary tool in keeping hypoglycemia at bay.

Addressing Hypoglycemia With Supplements

Paradoxically, staving off low blood sugar is best achieved by limiting blood sugar escalation. Many nutritional supplements can be successfully utilized for this purpose. Fish oil and psyllium seed husks are among the natural substances that help to control the tempo of glucose entry into the bloodstream. Others include green tea, aloe vera, cinnamon, ginger and kudzu. Each of these natural supplements is known for lowering blood sugar and regulating insulin. In fact, when used improperly, these herbs can actually induce hypoglycemia. Nevertheless, their value in preventing hypoglycemia lies in their powers to keep the glucose-to-blood ratio in optimal balance.

Addressing Hypoglycemia With Exercise

Those seeking natural and non-pharmaceutical means of heading off hypoglycemia would do well to examine their exercise regimen. A physical evaluation by a physician is essential prior to beginning any exercise program. Not only do heart, lungs, muscles and bones have limits, but blood sugar can drop precipitously when the intensity or duration of activity exceeds the capacity to replenish it. Staying within prescribed parameters of a doctor and physical trainer is an easy and non-invasive way to avoid a hypoglycemic episode.

Countering Hypoglycemia When It Occurs

These holistic approaches can effectively make hypoglycemic events less likely. If the sugar level does plummet dangerously, however, there are practical measures available to restore it to normal. Natural and simple sugars that enter the bloodstream quickly are effective remedies for countering hypoglycemia. Honey, maple syrup and undiluted fruit juices - preferably apple, orange or grape - can all raise blood glucose levels to normal range with sufficient speed. A tablespoon of the condiments and a half cup of the juice are the quantities recommended to achieve this end.

Dangers Of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is not just for Hollywood anymore. People from all walks of life are exploring their surgical options. A housewife may want her eyelids lifted or a coed might seek a larger bust. Anything is possible in the world of plastic surgery nowadays, and most options are available at a price many people are willing to pay. Nevertheless, there are dangers involved with plastic surgery.

General Dangers

It's easy to minimize the dangers of plastic surgery because the procedures have become so commonplace. But as with any surgery, there are risks. Whenever anesthesia is used, there are inherent dangers ranging from minor problems like nausea, vomiting or headaches, to allergic reactions and even death. Also common to surgery is the danger of blood clots, infection or bleeding. The most common danger associated with any plastic surgery is scarring. Though a surgeon will attempt to minimize scarring or make incisions where they will be less noticeable, a patient can expect scar tissue to form.

Specific Dangers

The most common types of plastic surgeries have certain complications or risks that a patient should consider. A common danger associated with facial surgeries involves nerve damage; nerve damage often disappears over time. With facial surgery, there is also the risk of tissue damage, which is noticeable as misshapen or asymmetrical features. With reconstructive nose surgery, a patient can suffer from too much sculpting, and this can cause breathing difficulties if the nasal passages collapse. Breast augmentation has its own set of dangers. Implants can stretch the tissue and cause breasts to droop. Lumps and bumps can form, or scar tissue can develop around the implants, making more surgery necessary. Liposuction, referred to as the "tummy tuck," is done under major anesthesia, so those risks should be addressed. Patients should be aware that potentially dangerous blood clots can still form days after this surgery.

Tourism Surgery

There is a growing trend to travel to other countries to have plastic surgery procedures like liposuction and breast augmentation performed at a hugely discounted rate. However, there are several dangers involved with "tourism surgery." Doctors may not be certified to perform these types of cosmetic surgery, so complications are not uncommon. Bacterial infections are particularly rampant, and many women have been hospitalized after returning home. It's important to consider, too, that if anything does go wrong, patients have little recourse in a foreign country.

Prevention

There are steps people can take to minimize the dangers associated with plastic surgery. Get a board-certified surgeon to perform the procedures. Patients should have a complete physical beforehand to check for any existing conditions that may cause surgical complications. Have plastic surgery done in a medical facility with a proven track record of high standards.

Warning

There are more than physical dangers involved with plastic surgery. Some people may be traumatized by their new appearance; others will have unrealistic expectations and have more and more surgeries. In the end, a patient can suffer scarring much more than skin deep.

Treat A Ministroke

Although a mini-stroke starts out with some of the same symptoms of a stroke, it does not leave the same kinds of debilitating effects. In fact, a mini-stroke does not leave any after effects.

Essentially, a mini-stroke serves as a warning to a person that a more serious stroke might be on the way if lifestyle changes are not made. There are a handful of ways people can treat mini-strokes and make themselves less susceptible to strokes in the future.

Instructions

1. Change the diet. A person who has experienced a mini-stroke can decrease the likelihood of having a major stroke or of feeling the effects of the mini-stoke by eating a healthier diet that is lower in cholesterol. This means that cutting down on foods like butter, eggs and pork is a good idea.

2. Quit smoking and decrease consumption of alcohol. It is best to quit smoking and drinking altogether because these substances put extra stress on the body and can cause it to not function properly.

3. Start an exercise regime. Exercising is a great treatment for a mini-stroke because it can greatly decrease the possibility of another mini-stroke or of a more severe stroke. A good cardiovascular workout can relieve stress, promote weight loss and keep blood cholesterol levels under control. As long as a doctor has approved, start off with small, easy jogs a few days a week and work your way up from there.

4. Lose weight. Obesity or being overweight can be a contributing factor to a mini-stroke. A person who loses weight by dieting and exercising can decrease the likelihood that he or she will suffer another stroke.

5. Take anticoagulants or anti-platelets. These medications are prescribed by doctors to reduce the risk of another mini-stroke.These drugs are used to keep blood flowing properly and reduce the probability of blood clotting.

6. Have an angioplasty procedure done. Angioplasty with stenting procedures are performed to unclog heart arteries. This procedure is often recommended for people who are not healthy enough for surgery.

7. Continue to be vigilant. Be committed to the healthy living choices you have made and the risk of another stroke will greatly decrease.

Pregnancy Breathing Exercises

Pregnancy Breathing Exercises

A mother-to-be experiences many things during her pregnancy. Unfortunately, some of these are not so pleasant, such as nausea, fatigue and stress. Deep breathing exercises are an easy, effective way to help combat those issues. In addition, practicing these techniques can also help prepare her for the long haul of labor.

The Facts

Most pregnant women want to take care of their unborn children from the very start. But many don't realize that a major part of this includes breathing correctly. When you breathe properly, your diaphragm gently massages your organs and muscles by moving them up and down. If you breathe incorrectly, bad air gets left in your lungs and cuts off the good air that flows to your placenta, which supplies air to your baby.

Function

To begin, sit in a comfortable, supported position. Rest your hand on your stomach and inhale through your nose. If you are experiencing nasal congestion, like some pregnant women do, you can breathe through your mouth. Your abdomen should extend outward as it fills with air. After you have inhaled as much and as deeply as you can, pause for a few seconds, then slowly exhale as your stomach returns to its normal position. Repeat this procedure several times, working up to about 10 twice daily or more, as needed. Once you are familiar with this breathing technique, practice it while lying on your left side.

Benefits

Deep breathing exercises can help you manage morning sickness, as well as relieve the stress and tension on your body that occurs when you are pregnant. These techniques can also help manage pains associated with pregnancy, such as a sore back, tired feet, headaches and cramping. When performing the exercises, as you exhale, imagine the problem leaving your body.

Additionally, deep breathing can help relax the body and relieve tension. It can even lower blood pressure. Using these techniques can also improve your circulation system, helping to relieve swelling and congestion.

Effects

Practicing deep breathing techniques can help with and prepare expectant mothers for labor. Breathing this way can ease the pain of contractions and help you concentrate. If you take shallow breaths, that is, only using your chest, you can actually become anxious, which causes more pain. But using your stomach to breathe slowly can provide relief.

Considerations

If you feel dizzy or lightheaded during the exercises, it is likely that you are breathing too fast and need to slow down. When you breathe, your whole body should relax. Also, as you go further into your pregnancy, it may become difficult to practice these techniques as your growing uterus presses against your ribs and diaphragm. But breathe as deeply as you can. You and your baby will benefit greatly.

Relief For Fire Ant Bites

Relief for Fire Ant Bites

Fire ant venom contains piperidine, which typically causes pain, swelling and itchiness around the bites, according to the New York Times Health Guide. Promptly cleaning the area and applying ice and over-the-counter preparations can ease the pain.

Providing Relief

The effects from fire ant bites usually clear up within 10 days, but the pain and itching can be severe enough to cause scarring. Treatment consists of easing pain and discomfort. Washing the bite with soap and water is recommended as an initial step, according to the New York Times Health Guide

Medication and Home Remedies

Paul Nester of the Fire Ant Project at Texas Cooperative Extension, Harris County, recommends using an insect sting relief medication or remedy within 20 minutes of the bite. Other treatments that may help include applying a solution of half bleach and half water, or meat tenderizer, ammonia, tea tree oil or camphor.

Allergies

If allergic symptoms like swelling of the throat, rapid pulse or difficulty breathing occur, immediate medical attention is required.

Understand The Benefits Of Dental Veneers

Understand the Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a thin shell of tooth-colored material that is placed over your natural teeth. They are usually made of porcelain, but composite resin veneers are also popular. Dental veneers are primarily used to cover chipped or discolored teeth and also may be applied to protect a damaged tooth.

Instructions

1. Expect dental veneers to provide a natural tooth appearance. The color can be matched to your other teeth and porcelain veneers reflect light in manner similar to natural teeth.

2. Get veneers as a long-term solution. When applied correctly, they last 5 to 10 years on average, but may last for 15 years. Composite veneers are not as prone to cracking as porcelain veneers and are frequently repairable.

3. Select the color of the porcelain veneer to make your teeth appear whiter. You may use this option when you have all of your visible teeth covered by veneers.

4. Know that porcelain veneers are stain resistant. This type of material is usually not discolored by beverages such as coffee, tea or wine. Porcelain veneers are also well-tolerated by gum tissue.

5. Use veneers as an intermediate approach for changing the appearance of your teeth. It is an effective solution for discolored teeth that do not respond to teeth-whitening treatments but costs less than a full crown and requires less shaping of the real tooth. Veneers typically require 0.5 mm of enamel to be removed.

Select Foods For A Pitta Ayurvedic Type

In Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old science from India, there are 3 mind-body types known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda provides distinctly different guidelines for diet for each one. Pitta is a person of medium build, moderate muscle and sometimes a ruddy complexion. Confident, competitive, ambitious and driven to achieve goals, Pittas generally have a strong appetite and excellent physical stamina. With their strong metabolism, Pittas rarely skip meals. Ayurveda balances the 5 tastes of bitter, sour, pungent, astringent, sweet and salty in each meal.

Instructions

1. List on a piece of paper the types of foods you currently eat. Be specific: do you like carrots, but not peas and do you like apples, but not oranges? Make a similar list of foods you are repulsed by or may have a food allergy to. Maintain a food diary for a week and record all the foods and liquids you consume, at what time you consumed them and how you felt later. What foods were easily digested and others not?

2. Eat a diet that is 50 percent from whole grains, 20 percent from protein and 20 to 30 percent from vegetables. Last is 10 percent optional for fresh fruit. Generally muscular and athletic, Pittas are not served by going on fad diets that severely restrict calories or eliminate entire categories of foods, such as carbohydrates.

3. Favor foods that have a bitter, sweet, or astringent tastes. Eat bitter vegetables such as arugula, lacinto kale, green curly kale, collard greens balanced with sweet fennel or ginger root. Consider sweet vegetables such as carrots, red peppers, corn or peas and astringent foods such as baby green lettuces of all types and fruits.

4. Avoid or reduce very spicy foods. Being of the fire element and averse to sun and heat, Pittas may crave spicy peppers in their salsa, but it does not really support their health. Pittas tend to get “hot under the collar” and consuming very heating, spicy foods is counter to that.

5. Eat freshly prepared meals. A vegetarian Pitta might select dahl from red lentil cooked with ghee (butter with the milk fats removed), brown basmati rice and steamed seasonal vegetables such as squash, carrots and kale. Soybean is fine if tolerated.

6. Choose snacks that are not too salty. Like spicy foods, high sodium intake is not recommended. Pop your own hot-air popcorn and toss it in a paper bag with olive oil and nutritional yeast and salt-free spices. Toast smeared with fresh hummus or sweet fruits of any kind are good snack choices.

7. Select from these whole grains and sweet fruits as they are easily digested by the strong digestion common for Pittas: amaranth, barley, couscous, oats (cooked), rice (white, basmati, wild), rice cakes, spelt, sprouted grains, wheat and wheat bran. Choose from these fresh fruits: sweet apples, apricots, avocado, sweet berries, sweet cherries, coconut, dates, figs, red and purple grapes, ripe mangos, pears, sweet pineapple, sweet plums, pomegranates, prunes, raisins and watermelon.

8. Consume any of the following bitter, sweet and astringent vegetables as they are pitta-pacifying: artichoke, asparagus, cooked beets, bitter melon, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cooked carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, dandelion greens, fennel, green beans, kale, leafy greens, mushrooms, okra, black olives, parsley, cooked onions, peas, sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, sprouts (not spicy), spaghetti squash, taro root, watercress, wheatgrass, zucchini.

9. Pittas are famous for their large appetites. Select legumes and dairy as they are easily digested and provide the protein for generally athletic Pittas. Include: adzuki beans, black beans, black-eyed beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, brown and red lentils, lima, mung, mung dahl, navy, dried peas, pinto, soybeans, soy, tempeh, tofu, white beans. Eat dairy such as unsalted butter, soft cheeses, cottage cheese, cow’s milk, ghee, goat’s milk, goat’s cheese, ice cream, fresh and diluted yogurt.

10. Eat proteins including buffalo, white chicken meat, eggs whites, freshwater fish, rabbit, shrimp, white meat turkey and venison. Include black pepper, sweet chutneys, coriander, dulse, hijiki, kombu, lime and low-salt tamari. Add flax, halva, popcorn psyllium, pumpkin, sunflower seeds. Oils such as ghee, canola, olive, soy, flaxseed, primrose, walnut are fine. Externally, avocado and coconut oils can be used.

Daily Water Consumption Requirements

Drinking water is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your health, even though chronic dehydration is shockingly overlooked as a cause of illness by mainstream doctors. Some conditions thought to be related to a water shortage in the body include acid reflux, arthritis, headaches, diabetes and asthma.

Significance of water

Around 75 percent of the human body is made of water, and hydration must be maintained for good health. According to F. Batmanghelidj in "Your Body's Many Cries For Water," it is unhealthy to substitute drinks such as soda, fruit juice, coffee and tea for water as this further depletes the body.

Types of water

As tap water is more heavily regulated than bottled water, there is little difference in health benefits from drinking one or the other. Filtered water contains fewer chemicals, and distilled or reverse-osmosis water is bad for your body in the long term. Alkaline water might have health benefits, but drinking any type of water will have health benefits.

How much water per day?

The old adage about drinking eight glasses of water per day holds true for a 128 pound person; generally, you should drink one-half of your body weight in ounces of water per day. If you are ill, doing a cleanse or are physically active, the amount might increase to your body weight in ounces of water daily.

Benefits

Drinking water can help stave off the effects of aging and can help with many chronic conditions.

Warnings

Drinking distilled or reverse-osmosis water for long periods can be harmful. Because they lack minerals, your body will leach the needed materials from your bones. Drinking alkaline water can lead to a mild detox headache the first few times you do it.

Put Borax On The Skin For Lupus

Relief for lupus rashes

Lupus is a disease of the immune system that attacks and damages tissues and cells throughout the body. It can wreak havoc on skin, kidneys, joints and blood cells. Lupus can be fatal if not managed properly. By using Borax as a natural remedy treatment, individuals with lupus can find relief from debilitating pain that can otherwise prevent a normal way of living.

Instructions

1. Create a Borax paste

Mix together 1/4 tsp. of Borax, 1/2 tsp. of baking soda, and 1 liter of water in a small bowl. Stir consistently until it forms a paste-like substance. You may wish to use nonlatex gloves to protect hands from becoming dry from the solution.

2. Apply to skin

Rub mixture onto skin in a circular but gentle manner. Be sure to cover the entire area to be relieved. No need to apply the solution to your whole body -- only those parts where a rash is apparent. Use nonlatex gloves to protect your hands if they are prone to dryness.

3. Soak in a Borax bath

Mix 1/2 cup Borax with a bath filled 3/4 of the way with lukewarm water. Stir mixture around with your hand. Soak in the solution for approximately a half hour. Be sure to put hair up and keep water solution away from face. Pat skin dry with a clean, dry towel.

Spot Side Effects Of The South Beach Diet

Spot Side Effects of the South Beach Diet

The South Beach diet was initially created to help people lower their cholesterol levels. The basis of the diet is a focus on high fiber complex carbohydrates, as opposed to high carbohydrate foods that raise your blood sugar level. It can come with some undesirable side effects for some, so it's best to familiarize yourself with them before deciding if this is a diet you'd like to try.

Instructions

1. Realize that a good side effect of the South Beach diet is weight loss. You'll probably first notice it in your waist area, due to lost water weight. However, most experts agree that Phase 1 of the diet causes people to lose more weight than is recommended over a 2-week period.

2. Drink plenty of water, especially during the Phase 1 of the diet, which is the most restrictive in terms of carbohydrates. If you seem to be getting a lot of headaches, it could be due to dehydration, which can also lead to an electrolyte imbalance.

3. Know that a potentially dangerous condition called ketosis can be a side effect of the South Beach diet during the first 2 weeks. While you should be eating enough carbohydrates to prevent this from happening, its symptoms should be noted should you start to display them.

4. Be alert for the symptoms of ketosis such as bad breath, dizziness, fatigue and irritability. This occurs when there is too little glucose in the body, can lead to kidney problems and should be taken seriously.

5. Recognize other symptoms such as constipation, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as side effects of the South Beach diet. Incorporating more good carbohydrates into your diet should relieve you of the symptoms.

Risk Of Rotator Cuff Surgery

Risk of Rotator Cuff Surgery

The rotator cuff is composed of a group of four tendons and the muscles associated with stabilizing the shoulder joint and allow rising and rotation of the arm. When these tendons are torn through an accident or injury, it's often possible to perform a repair. The goal of this surgery is to allow smooth movement of the upper arm bone over the shoulder and align with the shoulder blade. This surgery isn't without risk, however.

Risks

In some extreme cases the rotator cuff tendon may be irreparable due to the severity of the tear and not be eligible for surgery at all. Besides risks associated with anesthesia during surgery, there is significant risk of injury to nerves and blood vessels during the surgical process. Infection is possible, as is increased pain or stiffness of the joint from inflammation following surgery. There is also an increased risk of re-tearing after initial surgery, which can lead to the need for further surgeries.

Managing Risk

Many risks are reduced with proper management during surgery. Washes prior to surgery and proper antibiotic treatments reduce the risk of infection greatly. Stiffness and pain are managed with pain medicines and physical therapy, and blood vessel and nerve injuries can often be protected against or repaired with further surgery. The risk of re-injury and further surgery is mostly up to the patient and their diligence in following through with physical therapy, and exercising proper care in daily activities.

Surgery

Surgery for the rotator cuff most commonly involves making an incision in the shoulder to open it and see the shoulder bones during repair. A surgeon begins the process of removing loose fragments of tendon or other debris from the space in the shoulder where the rotator cuff moves. This allows more room for the tendon and reduces the risk of pinching or irritation. If necessary, surgery will call for some of the bone to be shaved away or the removal of bone spurs. Finally, any torn edges of tendon are sewn back together and to the top of the upper arm bone.

After Surgery

Pain medications are prescribed after surgery to decrease discomfort. A sling is also worn for a period of time to aid in healing and protect against further injury. Almost immediately upon waking from anesthesia, exercises begin to flex and extend the hand, wrist, and elbow. Twenty-four hours later, passive arm exercises begin and continue until starting with a physical therapist after six to eight weeks, and 60 days after surgery light weightlifting begins to strengthen the shoulder area.

Effectiveness

An accomplished surgeon can effectively restore comfort and function to the shoulder of a patient who is willing to follow through with physical therapy. With proper strengthening and muscle retraining, and when care is taken to avoid subsequent injuries, the benefit can last for decades and allow for normal active living.

Cost Of Nursing Education

Nursing education can range in cost from fairly inexpensive to moderately expensive. It depends on the type of degree sought, as well as where you get your degree from. Options range from getting a licensed practical nurse (LPN) degree to a bachelor's in nursing. School choices include junior colleges, technical institutes and four year institutes.

Cost of Education for an LPN Degree

Most colleges no longer offer a licensed practical nurse (LPN) degree since most hospitals are looking for employees with a two year registered nurse (RN) degree. However, some schools still offer a LPN degree for those who are interested, and most can be found at technical schools, such Concord Career Institute. They have what is considered a fast track program, where the degree can be achieved in a shorter period of time, around 18 months. According to Concord, their LPN degree costs $250 per semester hour. The degrees program is 45 hours, so the total cost would be $1,1250. This includes books, lab fees and uniforms.

LPN to RN Bridge Program

These programs are starting to become more popular as LPN degrees are phasing out. Junoir colleges seem to offer LPN to RN bridge programs. According to Lake City Community College, their bridge program costs $74.58 per semester hour for 72 hours, with a total cost of $4,983.96. However, this appears to be the same amount of hours as required for a traditional two year associate degree in registered nursing.

Two Year RN Program

Junior colleges, career institutes and technical colleges offer two year degree programs in registered nursing. According to Florida Community College at Jacksonville, their two year RN program is $74.20 per semester hour for 72 hours, with a total cost of $5,342.40. This does not include books, lab fees or uniforms.

Four Year RN Degree

A four year RN degree is generally taken at a four year college, however some community colleges offer a four year degree, but usually to students who already possess an associate degree. For example, according to Florida Community College at Jacksonville, their tuition is $74.20 per semester hour for 120 hours, with a total cost of $8,904. A more traditional four year college, costs a bit more. The University of North Florida at Jacksonville costs $139.73 per semester hour for 120 hours, with a total cost of $16,733.60 . Neither program includes lab fees, books or uniforms in the tuition.

Definition Of Uterine Cancer

Uterine cancer, also commonly known as endometrial cancer, is characterized by severe malignancy in the cells of the endometrium, the tissue lining the uterus. Uterine cancer generally occurs in women who have reached menopause, although it can occur in women at any age, and is the most common form of cancer of a woman's reproduction system. Uterine cancer is generally characterized by severe bleeding through the vagina in between the menstrual periods or after menopause, hence making it easy to detect and treated early.

Causes of Uterine Cancer

According to the Mayo Clinic, obesity, irregular ovulation, diabetes, age and ovarian tumors are considered major risk factors for endometrial cancer. These conditions usually result in an increase in the level of estrogen, one of the hormones produced by the ovaries, which increases the risk of developing uterine cancer. However, the exact reason for this increased risk is not yet known.

Other Common Causes of Uterine Cancer

Various other common causes such as hereditary, race of an individual and medication such as tamoxifen are also considered to be prime factors leading to the development of uterine cancer. It has been found that 1 in every 500 women who were prescribed with drugs like tamoxifen for treating breast cancer are at a greater risk of developing uterine cancer. In addition, black women are at a greater risk of death due to uterine cancer.

Symptoms of Uterine Cancer

Some of the most common symptoms that are associated with uterine cancer include pain near the pelvic region, excessive weight loss, non-bloody discharge from the vagina, and bleeding even after reaching menopause.

Treatment Methods

Surgery is the most common treatment used to cure women suffering from uterine cancer. If detected in the early stages, doctors generally recommend surgical removal of the uterus to prevent the further spreading of the cancer to other body parts. Other common treatment methods are radiation therapy and hormone balance therapy.

Prevention/Solution

Certain preventive steps such as following a regular exercise regime and maintaining a healthy diet and weight are often recommended by doctors. This will help maintain healthy hormonal levels in the body, and thus help in preventing uterine cancer.

Kundalini Yoga Exercise

Kundalini yoga is a system of body movements, breathing practices and chants that are said to encourage better physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. According to KundaliniYoga.org, this type of yoga was introduced in the United States during the late 1960s, and has since gained popularity and praise as an effective exercise to improve physical posture, mental clarity, emotional stability and spiritual harmony.

Preparation

The primary focus of kundalini yoga is the gradual release of energy at the base of the spine called kundalini. Before beginning any yoga practice, make sure you are physically fit enough to safely perform the movements and breathing sequences. You should practice kundalini with a yoga master (yogi if male, yogini if female) to prevent any injuries and to ensure the practice is effective.

Exercise

According to KundaliniYoga.org, begin each exercise by chanting the "adi mantra," which opens up the mind and prepares the body for the waves of kundalini energy that will flow from the base of the spine (see Resources for adi mantra). Following the mantra, you have a number of kundalini exercises you can choose from. Kundalini's focus is on the energy coiled at the bottom of the spine, which means all of the exercises focus on moving, stretching and engaging the spine. Begin with pelvic rotations. In a seated, cross-legged position, place one hand on each knee and rotate your pelvis. Don't rotate from side to side, but rather move the entire structure in a sort of grinding movement for one or two minutes in each direction (clockwise and counterclockwise). Follow up with the spinal flex, in which you sit in a relaxed, cross-legged position and inhale while flexing the spine forward, then exhale and flex the spine outward. Keep your shoulders relaxed and your head level. There are hundreds of kundalini exercises, some of which are listed in the Resources section of this article.

Cool Down

After performing kundalini exercises, KundaliniYoga.org suggests cooling down by lying down on your back and rotating your feet in a circular motion for about 30 seconds. Then, (still lying down), place your right hand behind your head while bending your left leg. Pull your left leg to the right side of your body until your knee touches the ground. This will stretch out your lower back and spine.

How Liver Cleanses Work

Duct Work

Clear the ducts. A substance called bile is produced by the liver and it is stored in the gall bladder. Bile gets released from the gall bladder to aid in fat digestion. There are bile ducts that lead from the liver to the gall bladder that often times get clogged. Liver cleanses help to break up these blockages so bile can move freely again.

Stones

Gall stones are the result of dead cells, bile salts and cholesterol that build up and clump together. They can be quite painful and in some instances, they need to be surgically removed. With that being the case, they actually start forming in the liver. Liver cleanses help to clear these deposits before they can become larger and collect in the gall bladder.

Protect and Support

There are some supplements that are used with liver cleanses. They are usually in pill, capsule or powder form and there are even some teas that are used. These supplements contain special ingredients that aid in the cleansing process. Some of these include milk thistle, burdock root, dandelion root, licorice extract and ginger root. These herbs reduce inflammation in the liver, they help to stimulate bile release and they regenerate liver tissue.

Body Benefits

After the bad foods and contaminants have stopped coming into the body, and the liver is being fed good nutrients, it has a chance to heal and do it's job properly. While this process is going on, the liver has a chance to shift it's focus back to rejuvenating the body. This leads to more energy, clearer skin, better digestion and even weight loss.

Side Effects

When cleansing the liver, it is not uncommon to experience some side effects. This is caused from your liver eliminating all the toxins that have built up over time. Some of these symptoms might include irritability, head aches, stomach distress and lethargy. They usually go away after a few days, but if they do not, you should seek guidance from your doctor.

Use A Suction Device In An Ems Setting

Use a Suction Device in an EMS Setting

During an emergency, a patient's airway (mouth and/or throat) may become blocked with vomitus, blood or secretions. Suction devices help clear the airway of hazardous choking, helping the patient to breathe and allowing the performance of emergency ventilation procedures. Ventilating a patient without removing fluids will cause the patient to aspirate the fluids into the lungs, increasing the chances of pneumonia, choking or hypoxia (suffocation). The number one indication for suctioning is when you hear gurgling sounds.

Instructions

1. Check and maintain the device regularly for suctioning strength and power source reliability. Test suctioning strength by clamping off the tubing or simply bending it shut. The pressure gauge on the device should reach 300 mm Hg within 4 seconds; if it does not, adjust the device accordingly.

2. Measure the device for proper size and placement from the corner of the mouth to the earlobe. The first type of catheter is the French catheter, which is made of soft, flexible plastic; after lubrication, place it in the oropharynx, through the nose or down an endotracheal tube. This catheter is also a good choice to suction stomas. The second type is the Yankauer catheter, which is large in diameter and does not bend but is capable of quickly suctioning large amounts of fluid.

3. Preoxygenate the patient before you begin to suction. When suctioning fluids, you also suction the patient's oxygen. For this reason, suctioning should be limited to 15 seconds for adults, 10 seconds for children and 5 seconds for infants.

4. Open the patient's mouth by using the cross-finger technique or tongue-jaw lift. Insert the catheter to the proper, predetermined depth. Never insert the the tip of a catheter past the base of a patient's tongue, as this may initiate the gag reflex. Stimulating the throat of a young child (vagal stimulus) can cause the heart rate to drop. Be careful not to suction while inserting. Use the suction in a circular motion while withdrawing the catheter.

Herpes Virus Cures

There are several different types of Herpes. Herpes Type I is responsible for cold sores, or fever blisters, that appear on the face. It is relatively common, and in some underdeveloped countries, 100 percent of children have had Herpes Type I and the resulting cold sores by age five. Although Herpes Type I can also cause genital Herpes, the vast majority of genital herpes infections are caused by Herpes Type II.

Diagnosis

The Center for Disease Control estimates that more than 45 million Americans, or one in five Americans, have had genital herpes. The virus is spread through sexual contact with an infected party, who may be asymptomatic and not even know he is infected. Because herpes is easiest to diagnose when there are sores present, if you have sores or burning in the genital area, visit your doctor immediately. Getting treatment early may help you to avoid spreading the disease, and it may help you to minimize the pain associated with herpes outbreaks.

Stages

The Herpes Virus goes through three stages of the body, and the availability of treatment depends upon the stage. The first stage is called the primary stage, which usually begins approximately two to seven days after the initial infection, but can begin much later. In the primary stage, there is an actual herpes outbreak. This means blisters appear around the genital area. The blisters can be small, and you may not even see them, or they may be clear, with red and irritated skin underneath. Often, the blisters break open into sores.

The second stage is the latent or asymptomatic stage, in which the virus travels from the skin in the genital area to the nerves near the spinal cord. The third stage, shedding, begins when the virus reaches the nerves. Once in the nervous system, the virus multiples and begins to be present in bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal fluids and saliva. Although the virus is asymptomatic, it can be spread to other partners.

Finally, recurrences frequently occur in which the primary stage begins again and the blisters become present in the genital area.

Cure

Herpes is not curable. Treatment focuses on pain management and drug therapy to reduce the risk of spreading the virus and minimize the number of outbreaks that occur. In addition to drug therapy, other pain management techniques may be used during an outbreak of herpes to deal with the sores associated with the blisters.

Drug Therapy

Medications used to treat herpes focus on minimizing recurrence and preventing the spread of herpes. Valtrex and Famvir help to reduce the risk of spreading herpes and also help prevent herpes outbreaks. Acyclovir (brand name Zovirax) reduces the symptoms associated with an outbreak and shortens the course of outbreaks. Acyclovir can be applied as a cream directly to the blisters and sores, but it can also be taken orally on a regular basis to help prevent recurrence.

Pain Management

Outbreaks of herpes, with the sores and blisters, can be quite painful. An important part of treating this incurable virus is to cure or treat the pain associated with an outbreak. NSAIDs are often the first remedy used to cure pain associated with herpes outbreak. NSAIDs such as Tylenol and Advil, are over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications available without a prescription. Wearing loose clothing and keeping the area clean and dry are also important. Finally, a lukewarm compress or lukewarm bath may help to cure or relieve pain associated with a herpes outbreak.

Home Remedy For External Hemorrhoids

Home Remedies for External Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids can be embarrassing. You try to shop for the right cream while avoiding the glares and chuckles of onlookers. Luckily, there are many natural ways to deal with hemorrhoids at home.

Methods to Heal

Most of these methods have not been devised by a doctor, so please exercise caution when attempting to heal yourself with natural means. You can dull the burning and soothe the itching of the hemorrhoids with the application of aloe gel, petroleum jelly, witch hazel or an essential oil blend of lavender or rosemary in a base of almond. Shrinking the hemorrhoids can be accomplished with butcher's broom (Ruscus aculeatus), horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), or collinsonia root powder. Typically, these will be applied directly to the body with instructions included with each product. There are many pastes that can be concocted to treat the symptoms and the condition itself. Mixing equal parts water with any of the following herbs like powdered myrrh, alumroot, goldenseal, mullein and slippery elm bark creates a paste that can be applied to the body and left on for about an hour. There are a few drinks that have been connected with hemorrhoid relief. One is to mix black mustard in yogurt and follow it up with a glass of buttermilk. Another is to boil the peels of a pomegranate and to drink a glass of it every morning and evening. Lastly, you can add ginger, peppercorns and rock salt to a glass of buttermilk and drink it twice a day.

Changes to Diet

There are many foods to avoid when you either have hemorrhoids or when you want to prevent getting them. Excessive coffee, beer, cola and strong spices can add pain and burning to hemorrhoids. Too much salt can cause a bulge in the veins of your anus, increasing the size of your condition. It is a must to purify the digestive system before treating the hemorrhoids, and some patients fast for a day before going on a mostly fruit and vegetable diet. This should be accompanied with lots of water. Other foods to avoid that may cause constipation are udad daals, pickles, sour-tasting foods, and meats.

Changes to Routine

Here are a few things that may help with your hemorrhoids that you can do out of your own home. Watch your excess weight, since that can lead to more problems with varicose veins. Avoid heavy lifting since this can act similarly to straining on the toilet. Try to use facial tissues with a moisturizer as your toilet paper. Also, avoid toilet paper that has perfumes, colors and chemical irritants. Lastly, don't sit on hard surfaces and purchase a donut-shaped cushion to relieve some of the strain.

Treat Gilberts Disease

There are several medical conditions that cannot be prevented but instead are passed down through generations genetically. One such condition is known as Gilbert’s Disease, which affects the liver. This is normally a mild condition and can be treated somewhat easily.

Instructions

Treat Gilberts Disease

1. Get a blood test. Your first step to treating Gilbert’s Disease is finding out if that is the condition with which you are suffering. Gilbert’s can be detected by an abnormal blood test, so getting a blood test is your first step towards treatment.

2. Notice your symptoms. Gilbert’s disease manifests itself similar to jaundice, so notice if your skin turns a yellowish color or if your eyes become abnormally white. Fatigue is also a symptom of Gilbert’s and noticing these symptoms will help you to treat Gilbert’s Disease.

3. Find the underlying cause of your jaundice. This can is usually the most important step in deciding what else needs to be done to treat Gilbert’s Disease and what precautions should be taken.

4. Take Phenobarbital. This type of medication has been known to treat Gilbert’s Disease. If you have the condition, find out your options and the results of taking Phenobarbital.

5. Avoid activities that will hurt your liver. As Gilbert’s Disease affects your liver, it is important to keep your liver in the best shape. Don’t drink excess alcohol, and avoid medications that have been known to negatively affect the liver.

6. Rest assured. Gilbert’s Disease is not fatal and is associated with a normal life expectancy. If you are diagnosed with Gilbert’s Disease, rest assured that you can lead a perfectly normal life.

What Is Radiology Used For

Radiology employs the use of medical imaging to diagnose and treat nearly every type of disease and injury that exists. It is a vital part of the field of health care in that it improves the speed and accuracy of medical care. It is also critical to decreasing medical errors, patient recovery time and patient suffering.

Types

Radiology is used in four different ways. It is used for diagnosing illnesses and diseases, interventionist medicine, therapeutic medicine, and nuclear medicine. Diagnostic radiology uses medical equipment to determine whether a disease, illness or injury is present. Interventionist radiology involves using medical imaging equipment to guide doctors while they perform certain types of medical procedures. Radiation therapy is used to treat certain illnesses and diseases by targeting certain cells, such as cancer cells, to be exposed to and killed by radiation. Nuclear medicine involves administering medication that is radioactive into the body. This helps to give doctors a clear picture about the function of certain organs and body systems.

History

The history of radiology began in 1785 with the experimentation of William Morgan. During the 1850's, further experimentation was conducted using cathode rays. However, it wasn't until 1895 that Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered and named the x-ray. He is credited as the father of radiology and later won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. The findings of Roentgen's studies were duplicated by others which made his discovery more credible and popular. That lead to the Journal of the American Medical Association publishing an article on the medical use of radiology in 1896. However, in its early days radiology was very unsafe as there weren't adequate safety precautions taken to reduce exposure to radiation. Several practitioners died from having too much exposure to x-rays.

Benefits

The benefit of radiology is the fact that it allows doctors to see inside a patient in minimally invasive ways. This means that fewer people have to suffer through the pain and recovery of being cut open and sewed back together. Patients can benefit from faster recovery times in cases where surgery is necessary with the help of guided interventions involving radiology. Medical imaging also enables doctors to speed up the process of diagnosing and treating illnesses that formerly either went unnoticed or undiagnosed for longer periods of time. Radiology not only allows care to happen more quickly, but also more accurately by providing highly detailed and images in 3D and from several points of view.

Significance

Radiological technology is significant because it is used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of every body system. Using this technology allows doctors to see inside the inside of the human body in ways that were never possible before the invention of radiological imaging equipment. Doctors can not only use radiology to see still images, but they can view organs working in real time. Radiology is used to treat and diagnose the top two causes of death in the United States today which are heart disease and cancer. It is also used to care for children that are still in the womb. Without the use of radiology, emergency care would also be compromised because the difference between life and death in sudden illness and injury often amounts to minutes or seconds.

Function

Radiographs or x-rays are used to view bones and soft body tissues. X-rays work by putting out electromagnetic rays on a part of the body. The rays go through the air and fat but do not go through more dense body parts like bone and tumors. This causes the x-ray film behind the body part to become exposed depending on which parts were struck by the x-rays. This type of radiological test is typically used to diagnose complications of the heart, lungs and bones.

Fluoroscopy is a type of radiology that is used to view body parts on a television screen in real time by swallowing or injecting a liquid that is radioactive. This type of test is used to evaluate the function of the intestines, heart, blood vessels and urinary tract. This radioactive liquid can also be used to make abnormal masses of tissue show up more easily.

CT scans, short for computed tomography, employ x-rays to make 3D images of the body. This type of radiological test is used in emergency situations where time is critical. Some examples include blood clots, rupture of the appendix and internal bleeding. CT scans are relied upon to provide quick and accurate diagnoses.

Ultrasound is a type of radiology that uses sound waves to make a picture of soft tissues of the body. This is the preferred method for viewing unborn babies because it does not use dangerous x-rays that can be harmful to the fetus. Ultrasound is used for many things including determining the gender of the child and detected any developmental abnormalities.

MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, uses magnetic fields to manipulate radio signals in order to create a picture of the body's internal structures. MRI is the preferred radiological imaging to view the body in different planes (from top to bottom or from front to back, etc.). MRI yields the best pictures of soft tissues and is often used to diagnose abnormalities in muscle, bone and the nervous system.

Nuclear medicine uses radioactive liquids injected into the body to see any illness or disease related to the function of organs and body systems. Nuclear medicine is used to determine stages of cancer, heart function and blood flow. It can also be used to scan bone.

Train As An Acupuncturist

Acupuncture involves inserting needles into specific points on the body in order to create balance, thus improving health. This practice originated in China 2,000 years ago and is commonly used for a wide variety of ailments. Acupuncture, like Western medicine, requires a considerable amount of training to develop an appropriate level of knowledge and experience to be able to treat clients safely and effectively.

Instructions

1. Research acupuncture schools. You can check out the websites of all accredited schools by logging onto this site: http://www.acupuncturetoday.com/schools/. Read the schools' mission statement, educational objectives and history. Select one or more schools to apply to or even visit for more information. Some schools have clinical hours, so you may wish to get an acupuncture treatment at a local school to see if it is a good fit.

2. Determine which type of degree you'd like. Many acupuncture schools offer degrees that include training in herbal medicine in addition to acupuncture but require further study. Some states require licensed acupuncturists to have training in Chinese herbal medicine, so check local licensing regulations for the state(s) in which you wish to practice.

3. Select an acupuncture school and make application. Make sure that the school you choose is accredited through the ACAOM (Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine), because a degree from an accredited program is necessary for licensing in most U.S. states.

4. Follow the curriculum of the school after you enter. Prepare to work hard in understanding Chinese medicine, meridians, diagnosis and treatment. Most programs also include a clinical internship, in which you will be working with clients in a clinical setting with oversight and guidance from an instructor. This allows you to learn practice acupuncture safely and effectively.

5. Study to pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) test once you have graduated. NCCAOM certification is the only certification available for acupuncture that is nationally recognized, and it is a requirement for licensure in most states. Test fees vary depending on the type of certification you wish to be awarded. A Certification for Acupuncture costs $1225. NCCAOM provides an online practice test for a small fee. In addition to the NCCAOM exam, many states require another test for licensure.

Tektite Healing Qualities

Extraterrestrial by nature, tektite is believed by some to provide many healing qualities on both a spiritual and a physical level. From assisting in fertility to healing past trauma, believers say, tektite can even help you to channel information from other cultures and other life forms. Tektite has traditionally been worn as a fertility talisman, states Judy Hall, author of the Encyclopedia of Crystals, and is considered by many cultures to be a good luck stone.

Facts

Black, green, or colorless, tektite is a meteorite that has been found in the Middle and Far East, Philippines, Polynesia, U.S., India and Russia. As an amorphous mineral, it lacks "an inner structure and allows energy to pass through freely and act rapidly, and may be a catalyst for growth," states Judy Hall. According to a University of Texas website, "The youngest tektites are around 100,000 years old."

History

"The name tektite comes from the Greek tektos, or melted," according to the University of Texas website. Tektite has been recorded as early as 900 BC in China during the T'ang Dynasty. Tektites were described as being black stones with a brilliant luster that gave a ringing sound when struck and were collected after rainstorms. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Alfred Lacroix described a large tektite deposit in Indonesia and later the Ivory Coast. Until then, little was known about tektites.

Benefits

Tektites are known for raising personal energy vibrations and strengthening your aura, states Healing Crystals. By using tektite, it will be easier for you to discern the truth. Tektites enhance your psychic abilities, encourage telepathy and aid lucid dreaming and astral travel. Physically, tektite helps you heal quickly from illnesses and injuries. It can also reduce fevers and improve circulation and skin disorders, notes Judy Hall. If you have dark circles under your eyes, tektite will reduce the discoloration because of its effect on capillaries.

Origins

Tektites are meteors from outer space. "Some archaeologists suggest that these glassy tektites were formed by some sort of atomic explosion," states Healing Crystals. Tektites may also have formed from a meteorite impact melting the local rock. Compositions of tektite vary but are mainly silica glass with inclusions of magnesium, iron and other metals. During the 1950s and 1960s, tektite was believed to have come from the moon, but this theory has since been discredited.

Methods

Healing Crystals states that sleeping with tektite under your pillow will help you deflect negative entities from your life and meditating with tektite will bring deeper insight into current situations or problems. Carrying tektite while doing spiritual work will thin the veil between dimensions. Using tektite on your third eye chakra will help to integrate higher energy vibrations from other realms. Psychic Revelations recommends burying tektite outdoors by your doors, or in the pot of an indoor plant if living in an apartment, to protect your home from fire and storms. Wearing or holding tektite will allow its healing energy to work with your own body's energy system for maximum physical benefits.

Wheat Allergies

There are more allergies in existence today than a lot of people care to imagine. One particular allergy that is getting a lot of press is wheat. This is a very tricky allergy because wheat is found in so many things, including in some products that no one would suspect to contain wheat.

Significance

Wheat allergies are caused by a bad reaction to immunoglobulin E, or IgE, to antibodies of wheat proteins. This sets off a reaction through the body that can be as mild as skin irritation or as severe as anaphylaxis which is mainly seen in athletes. Anaphylaxis is a very severe reaction to an allergen. In many cases it can even lead to death.

Types

There are 3 places that wheat can be found. These would be in wheat products such as wheat flour, bran, starch and enriched flour; wheat ingredients such as gluten, vital gluten, wheat germ and vegetable starch; and wheat containing food such as breads, crackers, cereals, cakes and pasta.

Warning

It is very important to read all ingredient labels when shopping. Wheat can be found in products such as ice cream, soup, sauces and condiments like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Often times, there will be a notation on the label indicating if it is wheat-free or not. But it is still a good idea to look in the ingredients to be safe.

Prevention/Solution

It is not uncommon to have a wheat allergy. A lot of people suffer from them but don't even know it. It is not the end of the world to be diagnosed with this allergy. The simplest strategy to overcome it is to simply avoid foods that contain wheat. This can be done over a period of months--it doesn;t have to be done all at once. This is called the elimination plan: one product gets eliminated at a time to make it easier.

Theories/Speculation

There are many people who have voluntarily eliminated wheat from their diets. They follow a wheat- and gluten-free diet (gluten is a protein found in wheat). The diets mainly consist of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and other forms of protein and grains that are wheat-free, such as amaranth, arrowroot, rice and potatoes.

Expert Insight

There are alternatives to almost every wheat product. This goes for bread, bagels, muffins, pizza, cookies, cakes and even doughnuts. Stores of all kinds, especially health food stores, have complete sections devoted to wheat-free products (see Resources below).

What Are Some Home Cures For Genital Warts

Genital warts do not have a cure, but there are treatments and remedies that can allow the genital warts to disappear, and decrease the size the warts have the potential to reach. There is medication that a doctor can prescribe to help remove them, but there are also home remedies for those who cannot afford the medication.

Genital Warts

Genital warts are a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease. The disease is spread through direct skin to skin contact during sex of all types, including genital and oral, with an infected partner. The disease and infection are caused by human papillomavirus. The warts appear in clusters, which can be tiny or spread into large masses. The disease can last for months without the infected person having any symptoms, or the symptoms and warts can appear immediately.

Vitamin E Oil

Using vitamin E oil could be a remedy for removing genital warts. The warts may not disappear right then and there, but over time the vitamin oil will cause them to disappear. A person infected with genital warts should apply the vitamin E oil on the infected skin, and apply a little amount of crushed garlic over the genital warts. Within a week or so, the genital wart or warts should begin to fall off.

Juices

Juices are home remedies used to remove genital warts. Some of the juices that should be used include apple cider, vinegar or other milky juices. The juices should be combined with onion slices and salt, and should sit overnight before using. The infected person will then take cotton balls and soak them in the juice remedy, and then apply to the infected area. The genital warts will dry up and fall off after a period of time.

Diets

There are some diets that can help those infected with genital warts treat the infection. These diets are often referred to as the General Warts Diet. The diet consists of food that is rich in beta-carotene and folic acid. Some fruits and vegetables that are a part of this diet include mangos, radish, squash and tomatoes that are orange, yellow, and red in color. Some dark green vegetables such as cabbage, spinach and other leafy vegetables may be eaten with this diet.

Applying Heat

Applying heat to the genital warts can be an effective home remedy. To apply the heat, a person should use a hair dryer or the heat from a lamp. Get the heat as close to the infected area as reasonably possible, at least 18 inches away from the genital wart or warts. This should be done several times a day to obtain positive results. The heat should be applied after the genital warts have been cleansed, by squeezing warm water on the genital area. Once the heat is applied, the genital wart will dry up and fall off.

Early Heart Attack Warning Signals

A heart attack, or myocardial infarction, normally occurs when blood flow through one or more of the coronary arteries is blocked, thus reducing oxygen to the heart muscle. Recognizing the early warning signs of a heart attack is key to maximizing survival and minimizing heart muscle damage.

Chest Pain

Chest pain, in some cases severe, is a classic early warning signal of a heart attack. In many heart attack cases, chest pain presents as a generalized feeling of heaviness and discomfort that radiates over the entire chest area. In other cases, chest pain is more localized and sharp, often times producing piercing, sharp pains in the generalized area of the heart muscle. Regardless of its severity, unexplained chest pain should be treated as a medical emergency.

Arm Pain/Numbness

Pain and/or numbness radiating down the arm is a common early stage harbinger of heart attack. In the majority of cases, pain typically radiates down the left arm, sometimes traveling as far as the forearm and hand. In less typical cases, pain and numbness can radiate up into the neck and jaw region, and even affect the mouth and face.

Shortness of Breath

Heart attacks arise when an area of blood flow to the heart is compromised, which normally happens when a blood clot lodges in a coronary artery that has been narrowed by arteriosclerosis. When blood flow to certain areas of the heart is reduced, or in some cases stopped altogether, the heart becomes starved of oxygen, which disrupts its normal pumping action and ability to meet exertional demands. This can cause shortness of breath as well as feelings of fatigue and light-headedness.

Dizziness

Although not as common as chest pain and tightness in the chest, dizziness can be an early warning signal of a heart attack (or impending heart attack). This is normally caused by a lack of oxygenated blood flow to the brain, which stems from the inability of the heart muscle to effectively pump blood, a common result of a heart attack. The more severe a heart attack, the greater the deprivation of blood flow to the brain, which typically produces extreme dizziness and, in many cases, loss of consciousness.

Arrhythmia

Many times a heart attack will disrupt the normal electrical signals that cause the heart to beat. When these electrical signals become interrupted or altered, the heart can develop an arrhythmia, which is an abnormally fast and/or chaotic heartbeat. In severe cases, a heart arrhythmia can prevent normal heart function and lead to cardiac arrest. An arrhythmia is often an early warning signal of a heart attack and should be treated as a medical emergency.

Free Instant Hypnosis Techniques

When you are faced with stressful or overwhelming situations hypnosis can be a very useful technique. Learning instantly perform self-hypnosis can greatly improve not only your outlook on life, but how you choose to live it as well. Hypnosis, simply put, is moving from one state of mind into another.

Benefits Of Self Hypnosis

Instant hypnosis techniques can influence and help you change things in your life that you are unhappy with. You may want to stop smoking, lose weight or become more focused in certain areas of your life. By learning this technique you can learn to motivate yourself to accomplish things in your life that wish to accomplish.

Instant Hypnosis

The first step is to shift your focus. Shifting your focus will take you away from anything that is currently around you. This could be external noises, stress or frustration. Stare at an object or close your eyes and visualize an object or place. Then very slowly start counting backwards, starting at three.

Second Step

The second step can vary depending on the outcome or goal you want to achieve. Tell yourself calming and uplifting things. You may say to yourself, "everything is going to be fine," " I am a great person," "I love you, I know you love me," "I will complete tasks right away, without hesitation." In this step you are making suggestions to yourself concerning goals or things you would like to improve or change in your life to make it better.

Final Step

The final step of self-hypnosis is to ensure you can instantly go back into hypnosis by marking this state. Most often this is achieved by squeezing your thumb and forefinger together. Many signals can be used by others to signal hypnosis, but in self-hypnosis signals may be limited. The next time you wish to enter into a hypnotic state all you have to do is squeeze your thumb and index finger together.

Perfecting Self-Hypnosis

If you do not achieve the level of hypnosis you had hoped for, try again later. Hypnosis is a state of mind which it is very easy to become distracted from. You may want to try going into an isolated room to obtain better results.

Prevent Diabetes Foot Problems

Diabetes presents certain problems and issues for millions of individuals, including children, teens, adults and senior citizens. Cuts, infections or injuries to the feet may lead to a multitude of complications that may result in slow-healing ulcers, gangrene and even the need for amputation.Diabetics are especially susceptible to foot problems that result from poor circulation, slower healing processes and nerve damage and must take extra special care of their foot health in order to prevent such complications.

Instructions

1. Wash your feet on a daily basis and examine the skin on the top, sides and bottom of the feet for any scratches, cuts or bruises. This will help to ensure that you are aware of the condition of your feet and may seek early treatment if such cuts don't heal within a few days. Basically, check your feet every day for changes in skin condition, and don't forget to check the back of the heel.

2. Dry feet thoroughly after bathing. This will help to prevent skin irritations and to make sure that areas between the toes have been adequately dried. Coat the feet in lotion at least once a week in winter and more often in summertime to keep the feet soft and prevent cracking.

3. Look at your toenails. Are they hard and brittle? If so, apply lanolin lotion or another cream around and under the nails for several days after soaking the feet.

4. Take special care when trimming toenails. When seeking the services of a manicurist or need a pedicure, make sure to mention to the professional that you are a diabetic. That goes for visits to a podiatrist as well. Watch to make sure he or she trims the toenail straight across and does not cut along the sides of the nail or into the cuticle, as this may cause slow-healing injuries.

5. Wear protective shoes at all times, even when indoors. It is very important that diabetics receive adequate support and protection in order to prevent diabetes foot problems.

Stop Anxiety At Night

Classical music and petting can be therapeutic for an anxious dog.

If your dog is crying, whining, pacing or showing destructive chewing behavior at night, he may be expressing fearful behavior. As a pet owner, it's up to you to create a comforting environment for your pet while he gets adjusted to normal life. Fortunately, there are several ways to build up his confidence, help him relax and reduce nighttime anxiety.

Instructions

1. Spend some time petting your dog before bedtime. According to a study conducted at Wright State University by Michael B. Hennessy, Michael T. Williams, Debra D. Miller, Chet W. Douglas and Victoria L. Voith, anxious dogs respond favorably to petting and especially when it's being done by a woman. The researchers reported that the dogs being petted by females were more relaxed and yawned more frequently.

2. Play some classical music. Veterinary neurologist and author Dr. Susan Wagner recommends using classical music to soothe anxious dogs. She states that the music doesn't have to be loud because passive listening is what makes music relaxing. Getting your anxious pet to listen to music before bed may reduce stress in both of you.

3. Getting your dog used to being in a crate at night will help him feel secure and reduce anxiety. The "doglistener," Stan Rawlinson, recommends feeding the animal in the crate with the door open to get him to accept the crate as a good place. When your dog gets used to the crate, he no longer has to worry about pacing or destructive chewing; he will have a calm, confined space of his own.

4. Give your dog an old sweater or blanket that has the smell of your skin on it but not perfume or cologne. The sweater will be a sensory memory that everything is okay. Writers at dog-training-works.com recommend this technique for reducing a dog's anxiety because it helps create a comforting environment.

5. Allow your dog plenty of time for socialization. Dogs are very social animals. Playing with others increases his self-confidence. At night, if its possible, let your anxious dog stay in your bedroom in his crate. He may feel safer with people nearby. Stan Rawlinson states that after a while you can begin moving the crate a little farther away until you get it in the place you'd like to be his permanent place.

Treat Mild Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety is a feeling of anxiousness or uneasiness and typically comes on when there's a difficult or dangerous situation present. You may experience anxiety attacks before a presentation, interview or surgery. Anxiety can give you physical symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, dizziness, dry mouth, abdominal discomfort and frequent perspiration. In many cases, you can treat mild anxiety attacks alone or with help from a counselor.

Instructions

1. Identify any changes in your life that may be the cause of your anxiety. A heavy workload, conflict with a co-worker or family member, an upcoming exam or presentation can cause mild anxiety attacks. A wedding, vacation or new baby can also cause these symptoms. Even if you're anticipating change, good change can also be the onset of anxiety.

2. Relax throughout the day. Take 10-minute breaks every couple of hours to relieve tension.

3. Exercise for at least 20 minutes every day. Exercise releases endorphins in the body that help to reduce stress. Most people who exercise feel better physically and mentally.

4. Talk to a friend, counselor or support group about your feelings. Sometimes just knowing that you're not alone is enough to reduce the anxiety attacks.

5. Breathe through your stomach when you feel discomfort from the anxiety attacks.

Shallow breaths can just make you feel more anxious; concentrate and put one hand on your stomach to feel the air push your stomach outward. As you breathe, think of the word "calm."

6. Resolve your problem or conflict. If possible, remedy the problem situation sooner rather than later.
