Reasons To Stop Smoking

There are numerous reasons to stop smoking--to live longer, to reduce heart attack risk, to feel physically better--but there are other reasons you should quit smoking, reasons that are often overlooked by smokers.

Increased Infertility in Women

According to a study published by the British Medical Association, women who smoked increased their infertility by 40 percent. If you want to get pregnant, stop smoking to increase your fertility.

Increased Risk of Developing Cancer

Smoking increases the development of several cancers, including lung cancer, colon cancer and breast cancer. Quit smoking to decrease your risk.

Increased Longevity

Smokers who smoked a pack a day decreased their lifespan by 25 years. According to a study by the University of California, only 1 year of smoking decreased a person's life by 2 months.

Poor Oral Health

Smoking worsens oral health. According to a study published in the "Journal of Clinical Periodontology," heavy smokers increased their risk of developing gum disease by 60 percent.

Increased Risk of Macular Degeneration

Another reason to stop smoking is to reduce your risk of developing macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness in older adults.
