Restless Limb Syndrome

If you consistently have a problem keeping your legs in the same position for an extended period of time, you may have a condition known as restless limb syndrome. Those with this condition may feel extremely uncomfortable in positions where the legs are unmoving.


Whom Does It Affect?


Unfortunately, restless limb syndrome affects both sexes and may strike at any age. It also has the potential to become worse as you age.


Symptoms


Those with restless limb syndrome may experience an uncomfortable sensation in areas of the lower body. This sensation may be an ache, burning or tingling.


When Is It Felt?


These uncomfortable sensations are typically felt after sitting in a still position for an extended period of time. Those with restless leg syndrome will likely feel the symptoms during inactivity and might notice that the symptoms disappear as they stand up and begin to move.








Causes


Restless leg syndrome is often hereditary. Stress, pregnancy and conditions such as iron deficiency and kidney failure may also serve as causes.


Treatment


Unless a particular problem, such as iron deficiency, is causing restless leg syndrome. it is usually treated with the use of pain killers, massages, hot and cold packs and exercise.
