Adjust The Hot Water On A Moen Kitchen Faucet

Moen kitchen faucets come in 188 different varieties. Each faucet has a way to dispense hot water, cold water or a mix between the two. With the large number of different Moen faucets, each one has a slightly different operating procedure. However, each faucet allows you to adjust the hot water to your needs with ease. Like most faucets in modern homes, Moen fixtures are easily adjustable.

Instructions

Adjust Heat at the Faucet

1. Determine which faucet is the one for hot water and which is for cold water if there are two different handles. If there is only one handle, one direction will be hot and the other cold.

2. Rotate the hot water handle all the way or turn the handle toward the Hot mark. You may have to let the water run for three to five minutes to heat up completely. Hold a thermometer under the running water for two to three minutes to see what temperature your water is. This is as hot as your water gets.

3. Turn the cold handle on or turn the handle toward the Cold mark to reduce the temperature of the water.

Adjust Heat at the Hot Water Heater

4. Adjust the dial on your hot water heater to change the heat of the water in your home. The typical water temperature in a home is set at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Water temperatures between 130 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit are needed for optimum cleaning in certain dishwashers, but water 140 degrees Fahrenheit and above can cause scalding.

5. Rotate the temperature knob on the outside of a gas water heater to adjust the temperature. Turn the knob to WARM to make the water cooler and HOT to increase the temperature. Run water over the thermometer again to make sure you adjusted the water heater to the desired temperature.

6. Turn off an electric water heater and unscrew the thermometer plate on the water heater. Use the screwdriver to adjust the heat of the water: clockwise is hotter, and counterclockwise is cooler on most electric water heaters. Test the temperature of the water by running water over the thermometer at the tap farthest from the water heater. Keep adjusting the water heater until you get the desired temperature. You will have to turn your water heater back on each time you want to check the temperature from a tap.

Tips Warnings

Electric water heaters may have two different thermometers, a lower one and an upper one, so you'll have to adjust both of them.
