Train For Holistic Medicine

Holistic medicine is a branch of health care that focuses on treating the entire person. A practitioner must be aware of how separate systems interact to create disease and treat the person as a whole, considering body, mind and spirit. Holistic health care includes a vast array of approaches.

Instructions

1. Decide which specialty you want to pursue as a holistic health practitioner. Some specialties include homeopathy, naturopathy, acupuncture, acupressure, and herbalism. Some specialties require a degree, such as homeopathic medicine, while some more narrow areas of practice may offer certificates in the field, such as aromatherapy.

2. Attend a school for your specialty. Some require college degrees: a bachelor's, a master's, or a doctorate. In contrast, other areas of holistic medicine may only require online classes or shorter certificate programs. For acupuncture, you will need to get certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

3. Intern for a holistic medicine practitioner in your chosen field. Look for internships through a local college or university. The best way to find internships is through networking with holistic health professionals in your area and attending health conferences.

4. Build a client base. The methods vary depending on the nature of the practice. Advertise. Seek referrals by networking with other health care practitioners. List yourself with Internet sites for holistic health practitioners. Do community service and outreach. Hold discussions or forums about holistic health practices.
