Install A Toto Bidet

Installing a Toto bidet toilet seat not only provides you with a luxurious appliance, it offers many health benefits as well. Used regularly in countries around the world outside the United States, the bidet is a green alternative to expensive and resource-depleting toilet paper. Installation of the Toto bidet seat is a job that almost anyone can accomplish in about an hour, but installing the required electrical outlet will take a little longer.

Instructions

1. Install an electrical outlet on the wall behind the left side of your toilet. The outlet will require a dedicated circuit breaker of 15 amps. The outlet must also be equipped with a GFI circuit interrupter. If you are not comfortable working with electricity, hire a licensed, bonded and insured professional to install the outlet for you.

2. Remove your old toilet seat. Some seats will have the mounting bolts covered by plastic caps. Remove the caps or flip them up to get to the hinge screws. Using a large flat-tip or Phillips screwdriver, hold the screw head in place and unscrew the hinge bolt nut located under the toilet bowl rim. You should be able to unscrew the nut by hand; however, you may need a pliers to loosen the nut first. Clean the top of toilet bowl with soap and water.

3. Position your new Toto bidet seat on the bowl and insert the hinge-mounting bolt through the seat hinge and bowl. Screw the mounting bolt nuts by hand as tight you can, and then hold the nut with pliers and turn the screw firmly until it is secure.

4. Close your toilet's water supply valve by rotating its handle clockwise until it stops. Flush the toilet to relieve the remaining water pressure in the supply line. Place a towel under the shut-off valve and unscrew the water supply line connection from the top of the valve with an adjustable wrench. There will be a small amount of water draining from the line; this is normal. Attach the Toto bidet water supply line to the top of the shut-off valve by hand. Connect the end of the toilet supply line to the top of the bidet connection with your wrench. Turn the water supply on slowly to prevent internal damage to the bidet.

5. Plug in the bidet's electrical cord to the outlet on the wall. Set the remote control unit, if your seat is so equipped, to the desired settings. Some adjustments to the controls will be necessary to suit your personal needs. Test the water temperature before using the seat for the first time to prevent accidental scalding.
