Use Fleet Phospho Soda In Colonoscopy Preparation

Before undergoing a colonoscopy, you will need to clear out your digestive tract completely so your doctor will be able to examine your colon. Fleet makes a phospho soda kit that speeds up excretion via the active ingredient of sodium phosphate. Read all of the directions in the Fleet phospho soda kit thoroughly so you will understand use it in preparation for a colonoscopy.

Instructions

1. Discuss with your doctor the exact time you should start your colonoscopy preparation, as well as dosage amounts. Fleet phospho soda is usually used the day before your appointment, but the exact times of your dosages will depend on the time of your procedure.

2. Eat a normal breakfast on the day you are beginning your colon cleanse.

3. Take the first phospho soda dose at the time your doctor has told you. Fleet's doses are pre-measured, and each contains 1/2 oz. of sodium phosphate liquid. Your dosage may be 2 or 3 of these pre-measured bottles. Empty each pre-measured bottle into 8 oz. of water or another clear liquid. Clear liquids include apple and white grape juice, pulp-free lemonade, black coffee or tea, clear soft drinks and clear chicken broth.

4. Drink at least 24 oz. of clear fluids between phospho soda doses. Doses are generally scheduled 10 to 12 hours apart.

5. Eat a bland lunch at the time your doctor scheduled for you (usually before 2 p.m.). The Fleet instruction booklet that came in your kit (see Resources) gives all of the food choices, including chicken, turkey, white bread, applesauce, eggs, white rice, plain pasta and baked potato. Weigh your meats with a kitchen scale and measure vegetables accurately to be sure you are staying within you allotted amounts.

6. Use the premoistened anorectal wipes included in the Fleet kit to alleviate pain and burning associated with diarrhea as the laxative begins to take effect.

7. Drink your second dose of phospho soda diluted in clear liquids.

8. Drink your dinner in the form of clear liquids. By this time, you may experience cramping and not feel like eating or drinking. It's very easy to become dehydrated when you are preparing for a colonoscopy if you do not drink enough clear liquids, so try to push through and drink as much as you can.
