Herbal Treatment For Hpv

Thuja

HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a common sexually transmitted disease that can cause genital warts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 20 million sexually active Americans are infected with HPV, with 6.2 million new infections occurring annually. If left untreated, HPV can lead to cervical cancer. Though there is no treatment for HPV itself, symptoms of HPV such as genital warts can be addressed with herbal remedies. HPV can cause genital warts in men as well as in women.

Thuja (Western Red Cedar)

Two varieties of western red cedar, Thuja plicata and Thuja occidentalis, have been shown to successfully treat genital warts, according to the San Francisco Botanical Medicine Clinic. Thuja is a coniferous tree native to North America and eastern Asia. A thuja tincture or essential oil applied topically can clear up genital warts, though the thuja must be used regularly for two to three months to see significant results.

Application for Internal Warts

Genital warts can form internally or externally; treatment for each type differs. Wearing a tampon soaked with a thuja solution can treat internal genital warts on the inside of the vagina or on the cervix.

Purchase a thuja tincture at a health food store or herbal store. The tincture should be one part thuja leaves to two parts alcohol. Do not use thuja tea to treat genital warts. Combine approximately 30 drops of the tincture with water and place a tampon in the mixture. Once the tampon has absorbed the solution, insert it. Change the tampon two or three times a day to prevent bacteria growth as you would during your period. Because you will not be able to see any internal genital warts, it is important to see your doctor regularly for additional testing until your Pap smears have returned to normal.

Application for External Warts

External genital warts appear as small raised bumps and can have a cauliflower-like appearance. These warts can be treated with a thuja essential oil. Care must be taken when handling pure essential oils as they can be harmful if used improperly. For medicinal purposes use only pure essential oils that have not been diluted with other substances. Combine one ounce of olive oil with 20 to 30 drops of the thuja oil. Apply to the affected area three times daily. Continue application for at least two week after symptoms have cleared. You may wish to repeat this treatment periodically to prevent future recurrence.
