What Is Color & Light Therapy

What Is Color & Light Therapy?

Color and light therapy, or chromotherapy, is an ancient healing art. Many ancient cultures use light and color to treat a wide spectrum of illnesses. Full spectrum light is essential to human health. Color and light therapy are related.

Full Spectrum Light

Sunshine contains every shade of color, but artificial light such as fluorescent bulbs eliminate many colors. Full spectrum light bulbs are recommended by the majority of eye care professionals. Indoor lighting with all colors of the visual spectrum is beneficial to the eyes and general well-being.

Color Therapy

Chromotherapy is a relatively new concept in Western cultures, but it was used widely in ancient Persia, Egypt, China and India. Specific colors are believed to enable certain energy points. Although considered by some to be a pseudo-science, the effect of various colors on mental health has been proven by various researchers.

Light Therapy

Light therapy is used for patients with seasonal affective disorder. A reliance on artificial light has led to a breakdown of natural cycles such as the sleep cycle. Using intense light in a therapeutic manner positively impacts people who are afflicted with seasonal affective disorder. Light therapy has been proven effective in thousands of patients.

Soothing the Mind

The colors around us can have a positive or negative impact on our daily lives. Soothing colors are used in doctor offices and schools to relax people. Bright colors are used to excite the mind and attract the eyes in advertising and entertainment.

Changes in Daily Life

Change the lighting and colors in your immediate environment. Bright light and cheerful colors will add energy to the surroundings. In winter, increase exposure to bright full spectrum light whenever possible. Use colors to positively impact mood.
