Herbs For Pains In The Leg & Calf

Eucalyptus tree.

From nagging pain to sudden spasmodic pain, aching legs and calfs can cause lots of discomfort and sleepless nights. Some reasons for pain in the leg and calf area can be prolonged awkward positioning, vitamin deficiency or not drinking enough water. Indigestion and unhealthy food habits are also possible reasons for this kind of pain. Herbal remedies can help counter these pains and spasms and ease pain the if taken at the right time.

Yarrow Juice

The yarrow plant is grown in sunny areas and places where it gets a good amount of water. Yarrow grows up to 2 feet high and bares attractive flower craniums that possess white rays and have yellow flat circular plates or discs inside them. Yarrow is anti-inflammatory and has astringent tannins that helps in repairing damaged tissues in the body as an external applicator. Yarrow helps in curing cuts, wounds, burns and ulcers as well as swollen and inflammatory skin. When taken orally, it increases appetite, increases digestion and helps in healing swollen organs internally. It has an antispasmodic quality that helps with spasms, cramps and other leg and calf pains.

Arnica

A well-know herb widely used across the globe for its medicinal value, arnica is an aromatic perennial plant with a basal rosette of four to eight leaves. The stem is hairy and branches reach from 12 to 20 inches. The plant bears golden yellow flowers that have a daisy-like appearance. Arnica grows across the globe in the central northern part of the Northern hemisphere. The flower and rhizome of the plant are used to extract oil that can be used as an ointment to relive pain. The medicinal value of arnica oil heals broken tissues, improves blood supply and the rate of circulation in the affected part -- thus very effective in treatment of muscular bruises, sprains and muscle pains like cramps and spasms.

Eucalyptus

Characterized by its bluish white bark, these tall trees grow very fast and have green branches and foliage at the top. You can smell it in the air when you are near a eucalyptus tree as the constant bruising of the leaves extracts the scent. The leaves of this tree are used to extract the remedial eucalyptus oil. Most over-the-counter balms for colds carry this essential oil.  Eucalyptus oil is very useful as an external application for pain of the legs, calfs and other muscles. It is also good for rheumatic pains of the joints and muscles and for sudden spasmodic pain due to awkward positions.
