Weight Watchers Information

Weight Watchers is a popular diet program that has been successful all over the world in helping people lose weight and maintain their weight loss. The program focuses on healthy eating and lifestyle changes as opposed to dietary restrictions or prepackaged foods. Most groups will allow you to come and observe a meeting to see if the plan seems right for you. However, there are some general facts that it is good to know before attending.

Fees

Weight Watchers fees vary depending on location. Generally there is a one-time joining fee plus weekly meeting fees. Occasionally special offers waive the joining fee and/or offer a discounted weekly fee.

Weigh-In

Weigh-in is completely confidential; your weight will never be announced. You must weigh with your shoes on, however the staff member weighing you in will subtract 2 pounds for clothes and shoes.

The Meeting

Meetings typically last about 30 minutes and are conducted by a Leader. The Leader is someone who has successfully completed the Weight Watchers program. Meetings generally focus on one of the core Weight Watchers components, such as getting enough exercise or portion control.

10% Goal

Your 10 percent goal is the amount of weight you must lose to have lost 10 percent of your starting weight. For example, if you began the program at 200 pounds, you would have to lose 20 pounds to reach your 10 percent goal. This is usually not your final goal weight; however, it is a significant Weight Watchers milestone.

The Plan

On the Weight Watchers plan, you can eat anything you want as long as you follow portion control guidelines and do not exceed your daily "Points" target. Every food has a Points value that is calculated using a formula that balances fat, fiber and calories. Your Leader will be able to help you determine your personal Points target.
