Chinese Herbs for Torn Ligaments

There are many Chinese herbs that are used to heal torn ligaments. For best results, herbs will be both taken internally and applied externally.

History

Kung Fu masters were traditionally also trained in healing musculoskeletal problems. Sometimes called bone doctors, they specialized in the healing of broken bones, strained muscles and torn ligaments.

Theory

The approach will generally focus on two aspects. One is to promote the healing by moving qi and blood to the area of injury. The other is to strengthen or tonify so that the body has the ability to heal.

Internal Herbs

In Chinese herbal medicine, many herbs are said to go to specific parts of the body. Therefore, the specific herbs used to move and to tonify for healing torn ligaments will depend on the area of injury.

External Herbs

The external herbs are used improve the circulation of blood and qi to accelerate the healing process. These herbs can be applied in different forms such as a spray, a liniment or as a poultice.

Additional Therapies

Chinese herbalists are often also acupuncturists and will give a treatment in the office while prescribing herbs to be used at home. They may also apply the external herbs using a special massage technique.
