Dispose Of Syringes

If you're a diabetic and use insulin, you have likely found that disposing of the syringes can be somewhat perplexing. Your health-care provider will not allow you to drop them off for pickup at their facility. The local garbage company won't take syringes in those little red "biohazard" containers. So what are you supposed to do? This article will teach you dispose of those used syringes and at the same time protect the public health by keeping others from stealing them.

Instructions

1. Empty the laundry detergent bottle and make sure it has a secure cap. Place the bottle in the area where you usually test your blood sugars.

2. Test your blood sugars and administer your normal dose of insulin. Place the cap back on the syringe and place all contaminated objects in the empty laundry detergent bottle. Place the alcohol swab, cotton ball, test strip and syringe in the bottle.

3. Continue using the detergent bottle until it is full. At that point, dispose of it as if were simply an empty bottle. No one thinks to look in a laundry-detergent bottle for used syringes. Therefore, you are disposing of your syringes and at the same time protecting public health as well.
