An ulcer is a lesion in the tissue. Ulcers in the lining of the stomach and the duodenum are commonly referred to as peptic ulcers. Ulcers located in the stomach are called gastric ulcers. Ulcers can be very painful and cause complications such as bloating, nausea, vomiting, and acid reflux. Long thought to be a product of too much stress ulcers are typically caused by the bacterium Helicobacter (H. pylori). NSAID drugs such as common pain relievers can also cause ulcers. NSAID's may also agitate an ulcer and cause it to bleed. Bleeding ulcers can be very dangerous and require treatment by a doctor. The following are treatments available for curing bleeding ulcers.
Instructions
1. Discontinue the use of NSAID's if possible. This will help to relieve further agitation to the ulcer and slow or possibly stop the bleeding.
2. Start a regimen of antibiotics to treat the ulcer. Many times doctors will use antibiotics to combat the presence of the H. pylori bacterium and also to prevent the development of stomach cancer.
3. Have an endoscopy to stop the bleeding. Your doctor will use tubes to inject solution into the ulcer to stop the bleeding.
4. Try natural remedies. Yarrow is an herb known for its healing properties and its ability to stop bleeding. It can be used in teas to help stop bleeding ulcers.
5. Get laser surgery. In some cases, laser surgery is necessary to seal off the vessel causing the bleeding.
