Administering insulin at home is easy. Store your insulin vials in the refrigerator and replace there after the procedure is complete. Be sure to have many syringes and do not reuse any. The doctor should have given you a box to dispose of the used syringes properly.

1. Mix insulin vial before using. Do not shake it since this isn't necessary and could cause a problem with its predictability. Simply role the vial between the palms of your hands.
2. Insert the syringe into the top of the vial. You will need to stick the needle into the rubber topping of the vial and pull back on the syringe in order to get the insulin into it.
3. Take the syringe out of the vial once it is filled to the required amount of insulin.
4. Check the syringe for any bubbles. Sometimes bubbles accumulate when pulling out the insulin into the syringe. Either tap out the bubbles or replace the insulin in the vial and try again.
5. Inject the syringe into the upper arm of the person. Be gentle when doing this.
