Canker Sore Baking Soda Treatment

Baking soda provides the body with so many ways to keep it healthy. It can help fight illness, cleanse and deodorize. Canker sores or mouth ulcers are just one of the many ailments that baking soda can aid in relieving.

Balancing the pH

Some canker sores and mouth ulcers are brought on by an imbalance in pH. Too many acidic foods can cause these sores to form. By using baking soda as a treatment, the pH balance in your mouth will be restored and the healing process heightened.

Anti-fungal

Baking soda is a natural antifungal. It cleans the mouth of any fungi that could worsen or infect the canker sore. Its properties are so powerful that it has been used to help clear kidney stones.

Pain Relief

By making a baking soda paste and applying it directly to the sore, the pain will slowly start to subside. It may sting slightly with the initial application, but within about 24 hours the discomfort will ease.

Anti-inflammatory Properties

Baking soda can reduce swelling due to its anti-inflammatory properties. By rinsing your mouth with a baking soda solution or using a baking soda paste, the inflammation of the canker sore will slowly dissipate.

Antibacterial

Baking soda also cleans the mouth of bacteria. It will help keep your canker sore free of infection while keeping your teeth clean and breath fresh.
