How Does Zinc Affect The Body

Reduces Cold/Flu Symptoms

Zinc's astringent properties are cooling and soothing for irritated, sore throats during an attack of the cold or flu. Additionally, zinc reduces coughing, sinus drainage and other cold/flu symptoms both in severity and duration.

Increases Brain Function

Zinc is one of the elements that builds brain fibers in the brain's center for regulating memory and emotion (the hippocampus). If you don't have enough zinc in your body, these fibers will not be able to function as well and will decrease your cognitive function, or ability to remember and think.

Attacks Harmful Cells

When taken in lozenge form, zinc is released into the saliva and attacks virus cells. Zinc is both antiviral and antioxidant, so it helps the body rid itself of viruses and helps to prevent the oxidation of free radicals. Free radical oxidation contributes to aging and to serious diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

Heals the Skin

Zinc is necessary for the body to synthesize collagen, without which it cannot heal skin wounds and abrasions. Zinc oxide is the main ingredient in most diaper rash creams, because of its astringent and antioxidant properties. It causes the pores of the body to contract and helps the skin to dry out, as well as soothing irritated portions of skin.

Boosts the Immune System

Zinc is essential for a healthy immune system. Without enough zinc, the immune system is impaired and more susceptible to diseases and viruses. Zinc supports the activity of the immune system and helps the body fight off infections, or if the infections are already present, helps to reduce the duration of the infection.
