There are two types of herpes: herpes simplex 1, also called oral herpes, and herpes simplex 2, also called genital herpes. The latter is the more serious kind, and is very contagious. It can be spread even if there are no symptoms present. However, there are various ways to detect and treat it.
Temperature
One of the first signs of herpes is temperature extremes in the body. A fever accompanied with chills is often seen.
Bumps
The genital area can show small, red bumps that can be painful and itchy. They can also ooze fluid.
Lymph Nodes
The lymph nodes in the genital and neck area can become swollen and sensitive.
Prevention/Solution
One way to treat herpes is by wearing non-constrictive clothing, and keeping the area clean and as dry as possible to promote healing.
Balm
H-balm is a treatment for herpes that is applied to the skin. It consists of organic essential oils (see Resources).
Prescriptions
There are various prescription medications that can also be used to treat herpes. Some of these include Famvir, Valtrex and Acyclovir (see Resources).
