You may not be familiar with the term muscle imbalance. However, the odds are you or someone you know has first hand experience with this painful condition. In fact, many common aches and pains are caused by muscle imbalances.

1. In order to identify muscle imbalances, it’s important to know what they are. Our skeletal muscles must work together to allow us to move freely. If they are not properly balanced, the joints and surrounding muscles to become stiff. The effects that this has on the muscles are muscle imbalances.








2. Recognize the symptoms. Symptoms include muscles that are short, tight, contracted and are unable to relax in order to allow movement. This constant tightness can lead to painful spasms. When this happens, the accompanying muscles involved with movement become stretched out and are unable to contract. This combination makes it hard to move the joint and movement becomes impaired. This cause tremendous pain in the impacted areas such as the neck or back.


3. It’s a good idea for anyone who is experiencing symptoms to know the causes of muscle imbalances. This can help determine if the pain is in fact connected to this condition. The causes of muscle imbalances include age, repetitive motion or bending, too much or too little exercise, and injury from an accident.
