Beware Of Toddler Choking Hazards During The Holidays

Beware of Toddler Choking Hazards During the Holidays

Toddlers are at risk for choking on food, toys and other small objects. During the hectic holidays, be on the lookout for choking hazards in your home.

Instructions

1. Place small ornaments on the top of the tree - out of reach of toddlers.

2. Supervise kids while they eat.

3. Avoid giving certain foods - hard raw veggies such as carrot and celery sticks, nuts, hot dogs, and raw fruits like grapes and apples - to children under four years old.

4. Offer kids softer candies like chocolate instead of hard candies.

5. Move foods that could be choked on out of reach during holiday gatherings. This includes party foods like olives, nuts and raw vegetables.

6. Pick small toys up off the floor and keep them out of reach of young children. Marbles, beads and latex balloons are all potential choking hazards.

7. Watch for nonfood choking hazards such as small holiday figurines and coins.
