How Does Fasting Affect The Body

Take Out the Garbage

One thing a fast does is give the body a chance to flush out toxins and impurities. After the body is exposed to poor lifestyle and eating habits for a long period of time, it tends to become very toxic. Fasting helps to eliminate these toxins and impurities from the system. This sometimes referred to as detoxing.

Self Healing

Fasting gives the body a chance to heal itself. This is the end result of the body diverting energy away from digesting food and putting it's focus on boosting the body's immune system. This can speed wound healing, clear up warts and reduce the occurrence of colds.

Intestinal Fortitude

The intestines get a well deserved break. After digesting copious amounts of food every day (often times high fat food), the digestive system doesn't have to work as hard. This will help to improve intestinal tract health and function.

The Bad With the Good

Fasting can also have a negative affect on the body. If a fast is carried on for a long period of time and there is no food or liquid coming in, a whole slue of problems can develop. The brain and muscles will start to deteriorate and the body's vital organs will shut down. This is all due to deprivation of key nutrients and a lack of glucose which the brain and muscles feed upon. This lack of nutrients can further weaken the body's immunity and ability to fight infections. In some extreme cases, these extended fasts can even lead to death.
