Clean Bluestone

Types of bluestone form in and on the earth over a period of years.

Bluestone is a name that encompasses a few different types of natural stone used in building and home decor. Sandstone and limestone are two types of bluestone. Natural stone surfaces are durable materials for flooring, countertops and other home surfaces. Because the surfaces are porous, cleaning and stain-removal must be done with care in order to avoid damaging or discoloring the stone. Proper care and cleaning will help you maintain the classic beauty of your bluestone surface.

Instructions

1. Remove surface dirt, dust and debris by dust mopping your bluestone floor surface. Wipe bluestone countertops and other surfaces with a dry, soft cloth. Use dry cleaning processes daily to give your bluestone a quick cleaning that will prevent dirt buildup.

2. Dampen a soft cloth with water to remove fresh spills and stains. Quick removal of spills prevents the stain from being absorbed into the natural stone.

3. Mild dish soap is safe for cleaning natural stone surfaces.

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon warm water and mix in 4 drops mild dishwashing detergent. Wet a clean cloth with the mild soap solution and wring out the excess moisture. Wash your bluestone surface once each week to clean dirt and odors from the surface.

4. Rinse your bluestone with a cloth dampened in plain water. Dry with a clean, dry cloth to avoid moisture absorption into the stone.
