Only a few minor bolts need to be removed.
Seats in most contemporary cars are connected to the restraint and air bag system, which complicates removal. A 1998 Dodge Intrepid, however, does not have that issue. This makes removing the rear seats all the more easier. You will need to do this to revitalize the Intrepid's interior, especially if you recently bought the vehicle used and in poor condition. There is another possible reason. The rear seats are in the way of a different repair project, and they have to be removed before you can start.
Instructions
1. Shift both of the front seats forward and as close to the dashboard as possible. You do not have to do this, but moving the driver and front passenger seats will give you some needed elbow room.
2. Pull the rear seat cushion and seat bottom out. There are no bolts or screws to remove, but there are clips connecting the seat to the Intrepid's floor. Once those clips are disengaged by hand, the cushion should easily come out.
3. Locate the nuts at the bottom of the seat back. There should be two of them. Remove them with a socket wrench. This should detach the seat back completely.
4. Pull the seat back forward and remove it from the Intrepid.
Tips Warnings
The seat belts do not need to be removed to remove the seats. The seat belt lock is part of the seat as a unit. The strap and metal connector of the seat belt are not attached to the seat and are not in the way.
