Tenoretic Side Effects

Tenoretic, often referred to generically as Atenolol/Chlorthalidone, is a drug used to treat high blood pressure. As is common with prescription drugs, Tenoretic may cause a number of severe and less serious side effects depending on the dose size and the individual.

Identification

Tenoretic is a prescription drug incorporating two drugs that help to treat high blood pressure. Atenolol, belonging to the category of drugs known as beta-blockers, improves general blood circulation through the veins and arteries, while Chlorthalidone prevents the retention of large amounts of salt. The combination of these two medications allows the heart to beat regularly under less pressure.

Common Side Effects

According to Drugs.com, individuals using Tenoretic may experience the following side effects: drowsiness, headache, mild nausea, tiredness, dizziness, diarrhea, lightheadedness, and cold fingers and toes. Though common, the persistence or intensification of any of the preceding side effects signals a more serious problem that should be dealt with immediately.

Serious Side Effects

The use of Tenoretic can lead to the following serious side effects: irregular heartbeat, irregular urination, fainting, mood changes, muscle pain and cramps, severe dizziness and drowsiness, joint pain, severe nausea and vomiting, dry mouth, swelling of the extremities, easy bruising and bleeding, trouble breathing, and yellowing of the skin. In addition, individuals may experience severe allergic reactions to the product, noted by swelling of the face or throat. Though less common, these side effects are serious and should be treated immediately.

Using Tenoretic

Use Tenoretic exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Tenoretic is taken by mouth with or without food. In order to keep a regular treatment pattern, try to use the medication at the same time each day. To prevent Tenoretic from disturbing sleep, try to take Tenoretic before 6 p.m. Tenoretic is most effective in combination with a strict diet and exercise plan. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.

Warning

Tenoretic should never be used by children or pregnant women. Since Tenoretic can cause drowsiness, take extreme caution when attempting to drive or operate heavy machinery. Avoid any other over-the-counter blood-pressure medications. Never take a double dose of Tenoretic to compensate for a skipped or missed dose.
