Identification
Boswellia serrata is a plant with thin, yet hardy branches that are covered dark brown, prickly extensions. At the end of these are oval-shaped green fruit.
Geography
Boswellia serrata is native to India. In particular, it can be found growing in the areas of India known as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Aroma
The aroma that comes off the Boswellia serrata is spicy and slightly sweet. In comparison to other frankincense, it is has a lesser-prized aroma.
Medicinal Properties
According to the "International Journal of Phytotherapy and Phytopharmacology," extracts of this plant have been used as an anti-inflammatory. Specifically, it has been used mostly in Ayurvedic medicine to treat arthritis.
Products
Boswellia serrata extracts are used to create a couple different products. These include an anti-wrinkle cream called Boswelox and an anti-inflammatory cream called Wokvel.
