Make A Wine Bottle Into An Incense Burner

Create your own incense holder from a wine bottle.

Incense is a fragrant stick or cone that gives off a powerful scent when burned. It has been used in meditation and religious ceremonies for centuries. Today, however, many people light it simply for its aromatic qualities. One drawback to incense is having to deal with the ashes. When it's burned, the ashes simply fall, and because ash is so light, it tends to scatter easily. One simple solution is to create a holder that will contain the ash, but still allow the incense's odor to flow freely. A wine bottle is perfect for this.

Instructions

1. Put on your safety equipment, including your safety goggles, protective gloves and dust mask.

2. Mark a spot on your wine bottle about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. This will be the area that you drill a hole in. Make sure that it's not located on a bubbled or warped part of the bottle.

3. Begin drilling with your diamond drill bit, using a lubricant such as water or mineral oil to keep the drill bit cool. Refrain from drilling for a prolonged period of time. Lift up every 20 to 30 seconds, or if you feel that the bit is getting too hot.

4. Use your pliers to bend about six or seven inches worth of copper wire into a tightly wound corkscrew type spiral. The overall size of the spiral should be larger than the mouth of the wine bottle, keeping it from falling in.

5. Insert the stem of your incense stick into the coil that you created in the previous step. Make sure the stem is secured firmly in place. Light the incense stick and lower it into the wine bottle, with the lit end being inserted first. Your wine bottle is now an incense holder.
