Eat Out When Diagnosed With Crohn'S Disease

Proper diet and nutrition are important to keeping Crohn's disease under control. It's easy to eat foods that won't irritate your digestive system while you're at home, but dining out is often a challenge. Follow these steps to know what foods to choose when eating in a restaurant.

1. Select dishes that contain lean meats, such as chicken and turkey, as foods heavy in saturated fats can irritate Crohn's disease. Lemon-pepper chicken and turkey sandwiches are commonly found on many restaurant menus.


2. Choose fish entrees, such as salmon or mackerel. These fish are considered oily and contain omega-3 fatty acids, which can stop inflammation in the intestinal tract.


3. Opt for foods rich in complex carbohydrates, such as sandwiches made on whole-grain bread and fresh fruit salad. Complex carbohydrates help keep Crohn's disease patients in remission and can also reduce the risk of colon cancer.


4. Order meals that contain beans and soy, which are essential sources of protein for people with Crohn's disease.


5. Quench your thirst with a glass of water instead of drinks laden with caffeine, sugar and alcohol, all of which can cause inflammation in the intestinal tract.








6. Add sides to your meal containing carrots, green beans and sweet potatoes. Some vegetables, such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, kale and cauliflower, can irritate the intestines and give you stomach pains.
