Should I Get A Hair Transplant

Hair loss is a serious problem for many men and women today. Advances in science and technology have brought about the development of several options for hair restoration; over the years some have worked better than others. While restoration methods range from superficial to invasive, each has its benefits and downfalls. For those who are serious about restoring a full head of hair, the very best option is to undergo a hair transplant. Depending on the severity of your hair loss, this may or may not be the best option for you.

Instructions

1. Decide if the procedure is right for you. Your severity of hair loss will be the determining factor as to whether or not you will qualify for a hair transplant. The hair transplant procedure takes hair from other areas of your head and grafts them in thinning or balding areas. In order to be a candidate for the procedure, you must still have some steady hair growth on your head. Be certain that the percentage of hair that remains is enough to successfully undergo hair transplant surgery.

2. Learn more about the procedure. The transplant procedure involves grafts of hair being taken from donor sites on the head. Men and women will maintain steady hair growth towards the back of the head for most of their lives; taking hair from this area will not hinder future re-growth. Once the grafts are ready, tiny holes will be made in the scalp in the thinning or balding area. The grafts, which can contain anywhere from 1 to 10 individual hair strands, will be placed in these holes. It is then up to the hair follicles to bond with the blood and fluids under the outer layers of skin. If the hair takes, you will be rewarded with a full head of hair; if the follicle dies, that area will remain hairless.

3. Contact a hair transplant physician. This procedure if very common, but to get the best value for your money, it is optimal to find the doctor in your area that has had the most success. Research hair transplant doctors in your area and find the one with the highest success rate. Set up a consultation appointment so that they can take a look at your hair loss and determine whether or not you are a proper candidate for the procedure.
