The HMR diet is really easy to follow because it is structured and offers filling foods. The HMR foods are delicious and nutritious and make it easy to stay on the diet. The HMR diet includes soups, shakes, entrees, puddings, bars and hot cereals made specifically for the diet, in addition to your own choice of fruits and vegetables. You will also meet weekly with a group to help you stay on the diet in addition to going through lifestyle education to create a plan of healthy eating and exercise that works for you. Instructions
1. Find a program near you. You could of course eat the HMR foods and follow the program without actually being part of the program, but you will find you lose more weight and have more support if you join the program. To find a program near you simply call 1-800-418-1367.
2. You will need to eat or drink three HMR shakes or puddings per day. These are great for snacks or meal replacements because they are filling and nutritious. They are low in calories and there are actually different types of shakes available depending on whether you need more protein, fewer calories or a mix of the two. You are in control of whether you want to make a shake, add diet cola to create a float or mix in fruit to make a smoothie.
3. During the day you can eat two HMR entrees. There are a variety of entrees to choose from and they are all very tasty and don't require refrigeration. That means you can easily eat them at work or carry them with you on a trip. Cook some extra vegetables to complete the meal and fill up with tasty foods.
4. You can also eat five servings of your own fruits and vegetables during the day. Choose your favorite fruits and veggies and add them to your entrees, eat them as a snack; or just graze on them throughout the day. Adding your favorite fruits and vegetables means you will eat the foods you like and fill up so you don't feel hungry during the day.
5. In order to do the HMR diet you will also need to drink eight glasses of water and/or non-caloric beverages. It is highly recommended to drink mostly water but if you love colas then have some diet drinks, too. Make sugar-free lemonade or fruit drinks to enjoy on hot days or freeze them to have popsicles.
