Why Wear An Ace Bandage

An Ace bandage is a trademarked name for a woven elastic compression bandage used to exert pressure on bodily extremities. Ace bandages offer maximum elasticity to foster body movement in injured areas while simultaneously compressing these areas to allow healing to occur.

Ace bandages have many general uses and are recommended as a treatment component for several medical conditions.

General Uses

Ace and other elastic compression bandages can be used to hold other wraps and ice packs in place, to compress and minimally support sprains, as temporary splints, and to restrict range of motion. They are easily washable and reusable, too.

Conditions

Wearing an Ace or other elastic compression bandage is appropriate for a range of conditions, including: venous ulcers, in which blood clots in the lower calf; intense swelling of joints, especially for sprains; and situations in which it is necessary to increase blood flow to a specific area of the body.

Warnings

If a bandage is wrapped too tightly it can cause more swelling, cut off circulation to the injured area and cause discomfort.
