How Does Proactive Work

How Does Proactive Work?

What is Proactiv?

Proactiv is a treatment regimen for those suffering from skin acne. The regimen can include many Proactiv products, but the main focus of treatment lies on the skin cleaner, toner, and repairing solutions. Proactiv has been sold as a miracle cure for acne by celebrities and users alike, including Jessica Simpson and Sean Combs.

Step One: Skin Cleaner

Proactiv works as a three system process. The first of these systems is a skin cleansing solution. Within the Proactiv skin cleaner is a mix of botanical quality of skin exfoliators, and the main ingredient in most acne treatments, benzoyl peroxide. The skin exfoliation helps remove dry and dead skin from the pores of your face and prepare it for the next steps. The benzoyl peroxide works by introducing oxygen into the pores. The oxygen kills the main bacteria that causes acne breakouts.

Step Two: Skin Toner

The second step in the Proactiv process is the application of a skin toner. The toner works using a product called glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a fruit acid that work as a natural exfoliant and skin softener. The toner helps give a low level skin peel to get the surface ready for the final application in the Proactiv process.

Step Three: Skin Repair

The last step in the Proactiv system is the skin repairing lotion, which has another dose of benzoyl peroxide mixed with botanical substances to keep your skin from drying out.

Side Effects

Any product that contains benzoyl peroxide has a tendency to dry out the skin. This can cause moderate to severe irritations anywhere that the product has been applied. Proactiv has the peroxide in small doses and usually does not have severe drying side effects. However, depending on how sensitive your skin is, some drying and irritation may occur.
