Popular in Europe and other parts of the world, bidets are bathroom fixtures used to clean the genital area after using the toilet. Many people consider using bidets to be more hygienic and better for the environment than using toilet paper alone. Learning to use a bidet is simple and takes just minutes.
Installation
If you don't want to go to the trouble and expense of having a plumber install a separate bidet fixture in your bathroom, many manufacturers offer bidet units that can be installed onto your existing toilet. These bidet units operate using your bathroom's water pressure and can be installed in just minutes using simple household tools.
Use
Bidets are used to clean the genitals after using the toilet, which promotes good health and hygiene. If you have a stand-alone bidet, straddle it facing the water controls. Turn on the hot water first, then add just enough cold water to make the water temperature comfortable. Squat into the stream of water and use the pressure control buttons to clean the genital area. When you're done, rinse the bidet bowl so that it's ready for the next use. If you find that squatting over the bidet is uncomfortable, you can sit directly on the bidet rim.
If you have a bidet unit installed on your existing toilet, the instructions for use are a bit different. After using the toilet, use the appropriate knob on the bidet unit to turn on the water. Adjust the water temperature and water pressure using the water temperature and water pressure knobs. Bidet units are designed so that the stream of water cleanses the genital area with little or no user effort. When you are done using the bidet, turn it off and flush the toilet.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will help keep your bidet or bidet unit functioning at its best. Your bidet should be cleaned regularly with the same types of cleaning products that you use on your toilet. Some bidet units have a self-cleaning feature that can be operated at the touch of a button.
