Tell If You Have A Candida Yeast Infection

If you suspect you have a yeast infection caused by candida, it is important to have it verified by your gynecologist. A candida yeast infection can be treated at home with over the counter medication but other conditions may need medical attention.

Instructions

1. Consider the itch-factor. Do you have a burning itch that just won't quit? Although itching is a symptom of a yeast infection, it does not necessarily mean you have one. Many things can cause itching in the genital area including a bacterial infection or STD.

2. Look for discharge. A yeast infection will often cause a cheesy discharge. Looking similar to a whitish-yellow ricotta cheese, yeast infection discharge will also have an odor of yeast. Discharge with a fishy odor could be a bacterial infection and needs to be treated with antibiotics.

3. Notice if you have swelling or redness in the genital area or have pain during sex; this could also be a sign of a yeast infection. Swelling and redness can also be caused by other factors so see your doctor.

4. Try one of the new at-home yeast infection tests for confirmation. If you get a positive test you may be able to safely treat yourself at home with an over the counter remedy. If the test is negative you should see your doctor as soon as possible.
