Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is a stone used in crystal healing, meditation and magic. It is a form of chalcedony, which is part of the quartz family. It is primarily forest green with red flecks that give the stone its name.

The stone corresponds to the astrological signs Aries, Pisces, Libra, Cancer and Sagittarius. It also is the original March birthstone. In the Middle Ages, it was believed that the red streaks were the blood of Jesus. The Roman Catholic Church ordered carvings of martyrs in bloodstone, which earned it the nickname martyr's stone.
