Use Acupuncture to Help With Bulimia
In the fight against bulimia, acupuncture has proven to be more than helpful. While there are few studies that can scientifically prove the value of acupuncture, more treatment centers and doctors are now recommending it as a way to help bulimia patients deal with their symptoms and downplay the effects of the disease in the body.
Instructions
1. Look for a certified acupuncturist who has experience working with eating disorder patients. Because this is not such a common disease, many acupuncturists may not know exactly confront the problem and what exactly to look for. Somebody who has worked with bulimia patients before will know what to expect and guide you through the treatment.
2. Use acupuncture to treat cravings. Acupuncturists believe that most medical conditions are a result of an imbalance of energy in the body. Through the use of acupuncture, they believe it's possible to restore the balance of Qi (energy) and as a result, eliminate or at least downplay many symptoms, including cravings, which are associated with an imbalance of the spleen and the kidneys.
3. View acupuncture as something to be used along with other therapies in order to provide a complete approach to recovery, rather than a cure-all treatment. Practitioners of acupuncture often recommend the use of homeopathy and herbs to help in the recovery process.
4. Use acupuncture to deal with the physical symptoms of bulimia. Because bulimia patients often abuse laxatives, they may suffer from diarrhea and bloating. Frequent vomiting may also result in an irritated esophagus or stomach problems. Acupuncture can help with these problems by reducing the frequency of the incidents or eliminating the discomfort associated with them.
5. Stick with the treatment for at least a few months. While some of the symptoms may be relieved after a few visits, the best results are obtained after a minimum of 8 weeks of non-stop therapy.
