Treatments For Dark Circles Under The Eye







Dark circles can be an underlying sign of many issues in the body. Dark circles can be due to bone structure, pigmentation, and inflammation. Treatments for dark circles under the eyes are available. Depending on what's causing the circles, they range from vitamin supplements, to make-up, to topical creams and to laser surgery. Several home remedies are also available to reduce dark circles and puffiness below the eyes.


Causes


Many different factors can play into dark circles appearing under the eyes. Most commonly, these dark circles are caused by dehydration, fatigue or vitamin deficiencies. Other causes for dark circles are allergies, stress, dilated blood vessels under the skin, aging and birth control pills.


Treatments for Common Causes


The common causes for dark circles under the eyes like dehydration, fatigue and vitamin deficiencies are easily treatable. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day can prevent dehydration and provides vital moisture for the skin. Fatigue can make the skin look dull. Getting eight full hours of sleep regularly can combat dark circles. Deficiencies in vitamins C and K can also cause dark circles. Taking a daily vitamin and using a facial moisturizer with vitamin E, collagen and elastin can improve skin's appearance and diminish dark under-eye circles.


Topical Treatments


Topical creams, gels and other applications are available. Be sure if purchasing a topical treatment, that it also contains alpha hydroxy acids which thicken, nourish and moisturize skin. Make-up in a yellow or orange shades can help to cover the dark circles.


Natural Remedies


Using a cold compress on the eyes for 15 minutes at night can help reduce dark circles and puffiness. Sliced cucumber applied to the eye for 10 to 15 minutes, twice a day can also help. Other remedies include applying cold tea bags to the eyes, applying a slice of potato to the eyes and applying two or three drops of rose water to the area with a cotton ball. Avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and smoking can also help to reduce dark circles under the eyes.


Laser Surgery


Laser surgery is a last option for treatment of dark circles under the eyes. This treatment is used on patients whose dark eye circles are caused by excess pigmentation and dilated blood vessels.
