Cold sores and fever blisters are caused by a strain of the herpes virus known as herpes simplex. Exposure to cold sores is often associated with additional symptoms, including fever, headaches and general body aches and pains. Cold sores can reoccur at almost anytime after the patient has contracted the virus, and there is currently no cure for the disease. There are, however, remedies to control cold sore breakouts.
Dulcamara
Dulcamara, also known as bittersweet, is effective in treating burning and itching sensations around the mouth that is often associated with herpes.
Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum
Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum, or calcium sulphide, works to treat cold sores that appear around the mouth and lips, as well as in the inner corner of the eye or between the mouth and nose.
Graphite
Graphite works well on eruptions that are accompanied by honey-colored fluid that oozes from the blister.
Sulphur
Sulphur has been proven effective in treating inflamed cold sores, which are generally bright red and sensitive to hot liquids.
Natrum Muriaticum
Some cold sores erupt on the inside of the mouth; these can be treated with Natrum Muriaticum.
