DMSO, otherwise known as dimethyl sulfoxide, is normally used to treat conditions of the bladder, where the solution is actually administered directly into the bladder, held for a period of time and then urinated out of the body. But, this type of product doesn't work on fungal or bacterial infections. It is used more for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties for pain relief, which is one of the reasons why people seem to be turning to DMSO as a treatment for herpes, thought the actual efficacy is still up for debate. Currently, the only way in which people can find DMSO, or at least that which is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use, is in a product called Rimso-50. Yet, there are other products not approved by the FDA on the market containing DMSO, such as Never an Outbreak.
Instructions
1. Consult your doctor. Prior to using any sort of topical solution as a treatment for herpes, you should consult your doctor. He may have a better method of treatment for your particular case.
2. Apply the DMSO solution to the affected area as soon as you begin to experience an outbreak.
3. Continue to use the topical solution once a day for 3 days.
4. Stop applying the solution to the affected area after the 3 days are up. You'll want to wait another month before applying it to your skin again.
5. Use the DMSO solution for 3 days each month for no more than 5 months, according to the manufacturer, following the same application process. Typically, you'll use the solution for only 3 days for 3 consecutive months.
