Relax Pressure Points on the Foot
The art of using pressure points on the foot is known as reflexology. This practice can be used to release blocked energy and help the body to function properly. This practice can improve circulation, stimulate internal organs and prevent health problems. Reflexology creates both relaxation and rejuvenation through applying pressure to specific regions of the foot. You can do it either on your own, with a partner or in a session with a professional reflexologist.
Instructions
1. Start by sitting or lying in a comfortable position. Gently rotate the ankle by cupping your hands around one ankle at a time and moving it back and forth or in a circle to loosen the foot.
2. Do a quick massage to warm the foot up. Use your thumbs and entire hand to knead and massage the skin. Start with the toes and move back up to the ankle. Repeat the process a few times until both feet are loosened and relaxed.
3. Use a reflexology map to find which areas of the foot to massage. The middle and top half of the foot, including the toes, have the most pressure points. If you want to work with your head and neck, apply pressure to the toes. Other areas to focus on are the arch of the foot for internal organs and the ball of the foot for the chest and lungs.
4. Using the tip of your thumb, find the pressure point location on the bottom of the foot and press firmly from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, repeating as needed. You can also knead the area with your thumb as you press it firmly against your skin.
5. Make sure to treat both feet. It is believed that the right foot corresponds to the right side of the body and the left side with the left foot.
6. Apply pressure daily for best results. You'll know it's working if relief is felt within 30 minutes after a session.
