Closet systems

closet systems

I have a walk in closet and would like to put in nice cabinets. There are plenty of companies (too many) that will do it for you, yet I can't seem to find just the cabinets without the installation labor. The best I have seen are the ones from CLOSETMAID (at HD, Lowes, etc) but there are a couple things I do not like about them: 1. they have no bottom, i.e. floor is bottom of cabinet 2. They come in stackable sections - doesn't seem very sturdy to stack 2 pieces of laminated particle board 3. They are 15 inches wide, so clothes stick out half way... I am about ready to custom build the cabinets myself....but think there should be prebuilt customizable ones out there.... anyone? There is a magazine called Closets that is geared towards the professionals that build and install closets as well as the manufacturers that supply components. We used to advertise our closet doors in there and I always thought it was a good magazine. Take a look at their website and you'll see advertisements for companies that just sell the components and do not do installs. They also have a list of suppliers. Some of these suppliers may not deal with you directly but they should be happy to point you to a local retailer that will sell you the cabinets without the install. I hope this helps. Jim Very helpful. Thank you! ive bought new rack/ cabinet for clothes..made from nylon..its portable...u juz hang it everywhere u want...its really nice : ) If you Google 'closet systems,' you will find links to many websites. If not a fan of particle board, then you will see some that offer solid wood. Some even offer the ability to design your own system with their online software program. If you have the skills to DIY your own closet system, then go for it! Skill level and what you visualize may conflict. For instance, are you looking for doors and drawers? These can be challenging to a novice cabinet maker. Doors and drawer fronts can, however, be ordered, but these come in standard sizes. Thus, sizing of units would have to be within the standards available. You mention deeper shelves than the standard 15, and this would likely be custom. 15 will accommodate most folded clothing items like shirts, sweater, jeans, etc. Actually, furniture grade particle board is stronger on the vertical than solid wood. Particle board is a major concern to consumers in bathrooms and kitchens where there is the opportunity for exposure to leaks. Particle board should be safe in a closet system where there is no moisture. Solid wood, if purchasing a manufacturer's closet system, will be expensive. A popular website is Closets to Go @ www.closetstogo.com where there is a design your own closet system, and they ship. Costco offers an online simple solid wood closet system with 16 shelf: Costco - Limited Online Offer Ventilated Solid Wood Closet System Check solid wood closet systems with shipping at Closet Organizers and Closet Systems by Solid Wood Closets - frequently asked questions faq I bought closet organizers for two of my rooms online. Closets By Wellington has a nice design section on their website that allows you to put in your closet dimensions and then drag and drop different options to make your closet. The only downside is that there is no bottom on the closets, except with the Hutch. I actually like this feature because it allows me to store some plastic bins underneath. The material is laminated partical board and is fairly thick and very sturdy. It's definitely better than what you find at your local home store. Everything was shipped via FedEx to my door and all boxes were labeled with section numbers so installation was a breeze. I am glad that you mention the advantage of no closet system bottoms in units. Plastic storage bins are an excellent storage option for off-season and other items. this was very helpful. thank you all. I have tried with the custom closet cabinetry collections of [company name redacted]. It is really classy and professional to deal with. Thanks for sharing the details about that, it really helps. I am adding some of the closet designs that catched my eyes: Hope this helps. Have a nice day
