Install A Wireless Doorbell

Installing a wireless doorbell is easy, and is probably the best option if you currently do not have a doorbell. The system uses radio frequency, so there is no need to hassle with running wires through your walls. Follow these steps to install your own wireless doorbell.

Instructions

1. Determine how many button units you need by deciding how many doors you want to equip with a doorbell. You can choose from a variety of sounds, so find one you like.

2. Determine how many receivers, or sound units, you want or need. Wireless doorbells allow you to put receivers throughout your home so you will always be able to hear the doorbell-if that's what you want.

3. Look for a wireless doorbell kit containing any additional features you want. You can get a simple kit or get something with intercom capabilities or even video features. Some kits even have a light that flashes in sync with the bell to help residents with hearing impairments.

4. Place batteries in the button unit(s).

5. Screw the button unit into the wall outside near the door, or attach it with an adhesive.

6. Plug the receiver, or sound unit, into an electrical outlet. Check your doorbell's packaging to see if the button and receiver have a maximum distance they can be located from one another. If you have more than one receiver, determine the other locations for them and plug them in.

Tips Warnings

Some receivers, or sound units, are battery-operated. Check your packaging to see which power source you will need for your receiver. When purchasing a wireless doorbell kit, consider which would be easier for you. A battery-operated receiver gives you the freedom to place it anywhere in a room. But keep in mind that it can be very easy to forget to change the batteries in a sound unit.

Wireless doorbells can also be beneficial if you have napping children (or adults) in the house. Simply unplug the receiver(s) to prevent any disturbances.
