Qualify For A Florida Pell Grant

The cost of a college education seems to climb exponentially each year, and many students are discouraged from applying to or attending their desired school because of the likely financial burdens. The Florida state government and the federal government have financial aid opportunities for students in need.

Instructions

Qualifying for a Florida Student Assistance Grant

1. Visit the Web site for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and fill out the necessary forms. You should receive a response from the Department of Education, including a Student Aid Report (SAR), within a week.

2. Evaluate your SAR to determine your overall eligibility for financial aid. This information will include whether you are eligible for a federal Pell Grant.

3. Contact the financial aid offices at your Florida schools of interest. Ask them about their eligibility requirements for students to receive the Florida Student Assistance Grant. This is the state of Florida's equivalent to the Pell Grant and is only awarded to students who qualify for a federal Pell Grant.

4. Enroll in one of the Florida schools where you are eligible for the Florida Student Assistance Grant, and the grant money will be deducted from your tuition and fees.

Tips Warnings

Keep track of important financial aid deadlines and double-check your FAFSA forms for mistakes before submitting them.

The federal Pell Grant and Florida Student Assistance Grant programs are entirely based on a student's demonstrated financial need. Students hoping for merit-based aid need to contact their individual schools or seek out scholarships.
