Replace The Combination Switch In A Chrysler Sebring Convertible

The Chrysler Sebring is one of the few mainstream vehicles that offers a convertible. Launched in 1995, Sebring hoped that style and value would secure it a place in the mid-size segment. Even with steeply raked roof line and windshield, the design offered ample headroom and an impressively generous trunk. The 2.5L V6 offers 163 horsepower with a four-speed automatic. Here's a few suggestions for the installation of the combination switch that controls the turn signals and emergency flashers in the 1995 and 1996 convertibles.

Instructions

1. Align the front wheels to a straight ahead position and set the steering wheel. Disconnect both battery cables and then wait ten minutes to disable the air bag system.

2. Remove the steering column lower cover retaining screws. Loosen the lower section of the instrument cluster hood to increase clearance as needed. Remove the steering column upper cover.

3. Locate the combination switch mounting screws and remove them. Disconnect the wiring connectors from the switch. Lift the switch up and out.

4. Install the new combination switch. Attach the wiring connectors to the switch, then put the mounting screws in place and torque them to 20 inch lbs.

5. Install the upper cover onto the steering column and then tighten the lower part of the instrument cluster hood. Install the lower steering column cover screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs.

6. Reconnect the battery cables and re-arm the air bag system. Test the function of the switch.

Tips Warnings

The turn signal flasher and hazard warning flasher are contained in a single unit. If the signal circuit is incomplete or inoperative, the flasher speed increases. The flasher is black in color and is mounted on the rear of the combination switch and may be serviced separately.
