Remove A Diffuser From A Kohler Shower Head

Remove a diffuser from a Kohler shower head when you start to notice low flow or a poor spray pattern. The diffuser, as well as other parts contained within the shower head, may have mineral deposit buildup affecting the head's performance, particularly if it's connected to a hard water source. Kohler provides a handy pronged shower head tool to remove both the aerator and diffuser for cleaning. The Vinegar Institute suggests soaking the diffuser and all shower head parts in vinegar overnight as an effective way to completely dissolve the mineral deposits.

Instructions

1. Insert the prongs of the shower head tool into the aerator holes on the shower head's face. Turn the tool counterclockwise. Lift out the aerator parts, including the housing, aerator, aerator plate and gasket.

2. Push the large hex end of the shower head tool onto the shower head assembly. Turn the tool counterclockwise and remove the hex nut.

3. Insert a flat screwdriver underneath the plastic thrust washer. Push the tip of the screwdriver up to pop off the washer.

4. Insert the flat screwdriver underneath the diffuser and push up on the screwdriver's tip to pop off the diffuser.

Tips Warnings

Flex the diffuser to dislodge mineral deposits.

Rinse both sides of the aerator to remove mineral deposits and other debris.
