The Pegasus Bamboo lavatory faucet adds a touch of Mediterranean flair to any bathroom. Found primarily at the Home Depot, the single handle Bamboo faucets also match with a two-handle widespread and tub/shower faucet to complete the set. Using a single ceramic disc cartridge, part number RP20005, the single handle Pegasus Bamboo faucet takes only minutes to rebuild. Even those with limited do-it-yourself experience will have no trouble repairing this faucet.
Instructions
1. Close up the water shut-off valves under the lavatory sink. Open your Pegasus Bamboo faucet to make sure the water has stopped flowing completely. If not, you may want to shut off the main water valve to the residence. This will insure a clean and hassle free faucet repair.
2. Remove the Bamboo faucet handle by first removing its setscrew. The setscrew is located inside the back section of the handle. Insert a small 2.5 mm hex wrench into the opening behind the handle, and then into the setscrew itself. Loosen the setscrew by turning the wrench three full turns counterclockwise, or to the left. Lift the handle straight up and off of the faucet cartridge stem.
3. Disassemble the Pegasus Bamboo faucet. Unscrew the bonnet nut cover, the smooth round metal cover over the bonnet nut, by hand. Use a large adjustable wrench to unscrew the bonnet nut counterclockwise. Pull the Pegasus faucet cartridge out of the Bamboo faucet body, and remove the cartridge seal with a small screwdriver or your hex wrench. Clean the inside of the faucet with a clean washcloth to remove any debris.
4. Install the new Pegasus Bamboo ceramic disc faucet cartridge RP20005. Guide the cartridge seal carefully into place, in the base of the faucet body, with your hex wrench and a finger. Lubricate the faucet cartridge with plumber's silicone grease. This helps prevent buildup and protects the cartridge from premature wear. Insert the new faucet cartridge into the faucet body by hand, and then secure it with the bonnet nut. Screw on the bonnet nut's cover cap by hand only; no tools. Greasing the bonnet nut threads prier to screwing on the cap will make it easier to remove for future service.
5. Finish reassembling the faucet and test it for leaks. Slide the Bamboo faucet handle on the cartridge stem by hand, and then secure it with setscrew and hex wrench. Open the faucet to the cold-water side first, and then turn on the cold-water shut valve slowly. Opening the shut-off valve quickly under high-pressure can damage the faucet cartridge. While the cold water is still running, turn on the hot water shut-off valve slowly as well. Let the water run for a few seconds and then shut off the faucet.
Tips Warnings
If you cannot find the cartridge seal, it may be stuck to the underside of the faucet cartridge.
